Is This The Best Idea They Have?

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooFilm FlickersRenee ZellwegerHugh Grant

While attending the premiere of My Own Love Song, Renée Zelleweger was apparently thrilled with the much speculated story for the third Bridget Jones movie, and basically gave her blessing for it to happen!

Rumors have been circulating that the plot, if to be developed, would involve Bridget getting knocked up after sleeping with both Mr. Darcy and Daniel Cleaver only days apart from the other, and on a mission to figure out whose child it is!

WTF?? That sounds AWFUL!

Apparently, Squishy was all about it though! She said:

“Sounds good! Sounds good! Who told you that? How do you know? Oh you know Helen Fielding? You talked to Helen Fielding! I need to talk to Helen Fielding!”

The first one was great, the second was passable - but another one?

What do U think?? Would U watch a third film with THAT as a plot??

NOOO why would she sleep with Daniel Cleaver??? The third one should be about her marrying Darcy!

  2. 2

    Mr. Darcy forever!!!!!

  3. 3

why don't they make the 3rd one about Mr. Darcy's marriage and the fact that Cleaver is working with one of Darcy's lawyer buddies to get Bridgit fired/extradited/ruined reputation/ for being put in jail for drug possession or something….I suggest rupert everett for the lawyer buddy because Mr. Firth and Mr. Everett have a very good on-screen chemistry (The Importance of Being Ernest) and the 3 of them in a movie would be hilarious. This is MY idea so I get royalties hollywood!!

I'm not liking this plot at all. She finally married the man of her dreams and she has to fuck it up by sleeping with Daniel Cleaver? Bridget's stupidity was endearing in the first movie, bordering on ridiculous in the second one but this new plot takes the cake. I'm not sure I'm even gonna see the movie.

This isn't a new idea people. A few years after the original newspaper columns were compiled into books, Helen Fielding picked up where she left off and continued the story in the paper. Everyone in England has known about the pregnancy story for years

  6. 6

Well Perez, that was the premise of the piece that Helen Fielding published in the Guardian. It's not out of left field, dumbass!

  7. 7

so basically she is a whore in part 3?

  8. 8

Sounds like a crappy daytime soap opera plot.
Contrived. Can it, get something else . . .
And, Agree with Msindianajones (above #2) - Mr. Darcy forever.
(I feel like a semi-idiot that I only recently realized "Mr. Darcy" was a take on 'Pride and Prejudice' . .. )

  9. 9

OMG! Oprah has gotten sooooo fat!

  10. 10

I was all excited about a third one, but not if THAT'S the plot! There are plenty of funny mishaps that can happen to Bridget as she plans a wedding…there's no need for the kind of stupidity suggested by that tidbit.

  11. 11

Sounds like Mama Mia without the singing.

  12. 12

Sorry but that sounds awesomeeeeeeee! Hopefully her and Darcy marry at the end.

  13. 13

I would indeed. I love Renee Zellweger.

  14. 14

Re: Lulu-2 – That's why Colin Firth was cast in the role, he played Mr. Darcy in a BBC production of Pride & Prejudice.

  15. 15

"Icky Icky Poo"? Grow up, Mario.

    Re: jones19 – I know . . . now . . . !!! (again, feel kind of idiotic)
Only saw the movie on cable, and I was never an Jane Austen fan, so didn't get it at first.

  17. 17

If she fucked with Daniel Cleaver one more time *I* would leave Bridget's ass.

  18. 18

Re: Lulu-2 – Actually, you are correct. This is one of the storylines on General Hospital right now.

Who says this is the real plot? I think these are just ideas. It can change. And by the way, I would still go if this was the plot, BG is always funny. :)

Re: judalon – Oh, get out ! Really? Well, I guess not too surprising - did sound like a soap opera script !

  22. 22

keep em coming! i love bridget jones!

  23. 23

    Nope!!! only Darcy!!

  24. 24

I saw the first one, it was one of my top 5 all time worst movies.

    I will never watch another.

That plot sounds horrible! I def think it should be about the marriage between Bridget and Mark. Then have something happen where Bridget might not be able to get the wedding or some shit like that. Lastly for the ending it should be her getting pregers. :0)

  28. 28

i'm a bridget jones fan, but that plot is horrible. she can't cheat on mr. darcy!!!

  29. 29

Love Bridget Jones, do NOT want to see her turned into a Maury/Jerry Springer whore. I thought she was supposed to represent the average woman. Average women know who their baby's daddy is!

Isn't the "Back-up Plan" of JLo about her getting an artificial insemination and then having a one night stand with some random dude in a cab and then not knowing whether to tell or not to tell and who the father is? Isn't the "The Switch" of Jennifer Aniston about her getting an artificial insemination and then her guy/BFF switching the sperm sample with his and later not knowing whether the kid is his or not and whether to tell or not to tell? Won't this planned disaster from Bridgit Jones' 3rd Diary about f@cking two dudes in one day–one's a fake love (metaphor for artificial insemination?) and her true love, make us all go…"Okay!!! We get it already!!!"? It's a dumb plot. Why are they reusing it? Did this plot come from one writer who sold it to three different studios with a few tweaking? If it is, hats off to the writer!

  32. 32

NOOOOOOOO! Why do they keep trying to ruin the first movie's legacy? Sadness.

  33. 33

    no lol.
    i love birdshit though

  34. 34

No offense, but they're all a bit long in the tooth to be playing a "who's the daddy" scenario now… Not to mention it sounds tacky and naff. Old cliche' sums up the 3rd film's concept nicely.

  35. 35

In the last movie she went to jail and Daniel Cleaver pretended he didn't even know her. And she found a hooker in his room. Why would she sleep with him?

  36. 36

I don't think that if Bridget WOULDN'T sleep with Daniel in the second one, she would in the 3rd. This one needs to be about Bridget & Mr. Darcy's blissful marriage to each other with perhaps a few road blocks and career success and weight loss. The best part of Bridget is when she is enlightening herself and growing–that could be hilarious–perhaps a hilarious version of "Eat, Pray, Love" We all want Bridge to succeed & inspire others by being the champion of the single girl in all of us.

  37. 37

The second movie was a bad idea! I only watched it for Mr. Yummy Pants Colin Firth wet in a water fountain..YUM.
The third one is just going too far.

  38. 38

i was never interested in any of those movies

  39. 39

So, since there is no 3rd book are they going to be pulling this movie out of their asses? Sounds like a hit…a straight to video hit…

  40. 40

don't like it but YES..of course will watch it cause LOVE B Jones!

  41. 41

1st movie is one of my favorite chick flicks ever.
    2nd one was way downhill.
3rd one…probably wouldn't sit through. Why would she still be screwing around with Daniel Cleaver??? Don't you learn Bridget??

  42. ceebs says – reply to this

Perez musn't do much research eh ? The books were based off Bridget new columns, and the movies based off the books. A 3rd book was never written, but Fielding DID continue the column to finish up Bridget's story.

To sum it up, the above IS correct. She broke up with Mark, slept with Daniel, then got back with Mark. When she discovered she was pregnant, Mark assumed it was his. She felt bad letting him believe that if it might not be true. She had it tested, and discovered it was Daniel's baby. When she told Daniel, he wanted to marry her and raise the baby. And they did - the column ends with her having the baby and saying she'd be too busy with her new son to write in her diary anymore.

Like the plot or not, I'd be irritated if they went with a whole different story line. I was pissed she ended up with Daniel, but changing a story for a better draw sucks.
