Seinfeld Cookbook Lawsuit Dismissed AGAIN!

| Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueLegal MattersLove LineJerry Seinfeld

Ha! Good!

This whole lawsuit was pretty ridiculous!

The Chef who lost the lawsuit she filed against Jerry Seinfeld's wife, Jessica, for 'stealing' the idea for her cookbook in 2008 has lodged and subsequently lost its appeal!

Missy Chase Lapine claims that Jessica's book, Deceptively Delicious, "brazenly plagiarized" from her book, The Sneaky Chef, both of which employ the technique of hiding pureed vegetables for kids in their food. She lost the suit in September, and attempted to appeal it on Monday.

Judge Reena Raggi basically told Lapine to shut the fuck up when she said:

"You make purees and put them in these recipes? That's it? I don't think one needs much cooking expertise to know this."

LOLz! Agreed!

Take the shame, lady, and stop making a fuss because a celebrity spouse figured out how to make money doing something you tried to build a career on!

i don't give a shit what the judge says, jerry seinfeld is a thug asswipe for using his celebrity to attack this woman.

  2. 2

    Seinfeld's wife is a theif.

  3. 3

When I first heard this lawsuit, I sort of thought, yea, this plaintiff lady has a chance because the titles are pretty much saying the same thing, "deceptive" and "sneaky", and it's the same concept too. But I know shit about law, so, yeah. And IT'S JERRY SEINFELD…'s wife. Maybe that's what went down with the judge; Seinfeld fan?

  4. 4

I don't blame the original author for being PO'd.

  5. 5

About half of the recipes were IDENTICAL. Obviously the Seinfelds bought their way through this.

    So sad. Poor woman.

  6. 6

yes I do feel bad for the woman author and Jerry Seinfeld is a bully

  7. 7

This was not a ridiculous lawsuit. Seinfeld's useless, stupid wife stole this woman's ideas and book. And Seinfeld abused his celebrity by trying to affect the lawsuit by smearing this woman on talk shows like the lowlife peasant weasel he is.

Seinfeld has lots of lying, cheat lawyers he can pay for to taint the court and take away other people's rights. Judges can be bought and are bought every day.

Perez, people like Seinfeld can get away with stealing YOUR ideas and work.

But I don't think you are writing your blog anymore, Perez. It sounds like it's written by someone from Long Island.

  8. 8

    I agree Jerry's wife is a thief.

Amazing how low the courts have sunk, when celebrity can keep you out of jail or allow you to steal.

  10. 10

who in their right mind (obviously not perez) would side with seinfeld's wife? she stole someone else's idea and used her husband's celebrity to capitalize on it. she is a royal, grade A bitch and she should be the one who's ashamed. oh and fyi, jessica is no genius. her recipes are lame. like, been there, done that. and kids catch on pretty quick.

  11. 11

oh CHRIST! My MOTHER did this for ME when I was a kid!
    … and I'm 40 fucking years old!!!
    Should my Ma file suit?
    Good Lord.
Y'know… considering the BILLIONS of people on this planet, isn't it I dunno, SLIGHTLY POSSIBLE, that two or more human beings might have the same idea?
… It's the Western mentality, is my guess. ANYTHING for a fucking buck.

  12. 12

I feel that this woman's complaint does have merit. Her book, due to her lack of name recognition was making a slower climb up the ladder of success. JS's wife who, let's face it we don't know much about and isn't a professional nutritionist or chef made a very similar book with recipes that work? The entire process of producing a cookbook is time intensive/exhaustive, and somehow she has recipes that work, are strikingly similar and then they go and "attack" this woman…they have more money than they need and this woman is legitimately using her knowledge and expertise to make a buck…at this point, its a shame that she hasn't won…but with anything, it is hard to claim an idea, much less against someone wtih more $$ than god…

  13. 13

hello mrs obvious. who the hell has not done that before….hid veges, etc. in food so kids will eat. jesus. it's not rocket science people.

  14. 14

I don't know all the details….but based on what I do know, I tend to side with the original author. Not Seinfeld's wife.

  15. Suze says – reply to this

Here's the thing….the recipes are almost exactly the same….weird stuff too…like making a "green puree" with spinach and stuff and hiding it in chocolate brownies. Also….Seinfeld's book came out months after the original….*just* enough time for her publisher to fast track the publication. And finally…Missy Lapine had originally submitted her manustript to Seinfeld's publisher. Hmmmm…..

  16. Suze says – reply to this

…oh…and one final thing…Missy Lapine has been a food editor and chef for years. Mrs. Seinfeld is a gold digger. Who has the better qualifications to pull together recipes?

  17. 17

Sorry Perez but you're way out of line on this one. Jessica Seinfeld pretty much plagarized, recipe for recipe Miss Lapine's book. I recommend you actually do some research and look at both the cookbooks and compare the recipes before you throw out hateful attacks against the poor no-name, normal looking and acting woman who worked so hard to write such a great cookbook only to have Seinfeld get all the credit. And no, everyone knows this isn't a new concept, but there aren't many cookbooks on this topic that have decent recipes with meals that are healthy and that picky eaters (both kids and adults alike) love to eat. Besides, these books are way to similar. Jerry Seinfeld is using his celebrity status so that his wife can feel like she accomplished something on her own. It's so wrong.

  18. 18

It's sad when a celebrity has to use their celebrity status to pick on the less fortunate and steal their ideas just because they can't be original and come up with their own shit.

  19. Rynne says – reply to this

Didn't Seinfeld slander this poor author???? What a gross has-been with an ugly wife.

  20. 20

Another case where money talks in court. The cookbook was plagiarized and this is just another case where justice was not served.

  21. @v@ says – reply to this

The timing and content of Jerry's wife's book seemed suspect. The judge may have done an injustice here. Do you think Jerry or his wife would EVER throw her a bone? No. That might be admitting something, and only they know how Jessica's book happened. Them that has, gets.

  22. 22

I don't care for either Jerry Seinfeld or his wife, but when it comes down to it, this is not a revolutionary idea (hiding vegetables in food for children; hell my friend has been doing for years and years to her husband!). If it's an argument over the idea, then the issue can be easily sorted based on whether or not there is a patent. But like I said, this is neither a new, nor revolutionary idea. It's a cookbook. And if indeed the recipe's were identical and the other lady's book was published first, than this would be an issue of plagiarism. So maybe they were only slightly different.. guess what, most cooking recipes are! I just never understood how legally, she had a case. So though morally Mrs. Seinfeld may be scum, she took advantage of our capitalist and fame-obsessive society, and she's not the first to do that either. Anyway, I guess my point with all this, is just that you can hate on the Seinfeld's all you want, but I truly doubt their money bought the trial. Bought them a pretty good lawyer though!

  23. 23

Why would we not believe that Ms. Seinfeld would steal recipes? If past behavior is any indication of future behavior, she has proven herself to be a liar of low moral character. This woman had just gotten back from her honeymoon when Jerry picked her up at the gym she started cheating on her first husband. I guess Jerry was richer than poor slob she had just pledged to be faithful to for the rest of her life. She then had her lawyer write a letter that was published in Vogue magazine defending her atrocious behavior. I'm sure this judge was blinded by the Seinfeld’s $$ and fame and sided with them. Just proves that justice can be bought in this country. Look at Kobe Bryant for instance. Not a fan of Jerry's…don't forget her used to date a 17 year old. That girl was way prettier and she dodged a bullet by getting away from this guy. Both of these people are trash.

  24. 24

Ok perez how about I take all your stuff, that you worked hard on.. then I use it on my website.. and say it'z all myan??? Hmmm.. diffferen't when the tables turn hu?

  25. 25

Sorry, but I have both books and Jessica Seinfeld's is indeed a blatant rip off. There's more to it then adding purees to recipes. It's a concept, put together in a certain way - you understand what I mean if you've read the books - and I'm sorry, but easier concepts out there are patented. it isn't just the idea of adding purees to foods, it the way in which it is done (first with puree recipes - white, green, orange, purple, etc) and the way you use them in each recipe. It's definitely an original idea and Jessica definitely ripped it off.

  26. 26

I think it's kind of disgusting that Jerry Seinfeld used his celebrity to bash this woman on many talk shows. Who has access to that kind of free press? Seinfeld was a hilarious comedian, but once he became wealthy, he turned into the very person that his stand up character would have made fun of. He's a bully and an ass!
And if you're a real parent, you tell your kids to eat their vegetables, you don't need to HIDE them!

  27. 27

I don't care what this judge says, I saw another woman discussing this same technique a few years before jerry's "kid" put this book out. Money…the great equalizer when you aren't exactly "equal."

  28. 28

P.S Don't forget how these two met. She had just returned from her honeymoon! She described meeting Jerry as "hitting the jackpot". Interesting choice of words!

  30. 30

I have reviewed both cookbooks and there is no doubt that Jerry Steinfields wife in my opinion did not have this idea originally. The Steinfields with their money and lawyers have done a great injustice to this poor woman. I will never watch Steinfield again nor his wife. Shame on them both. Most of all this judge should be ashamed.

  31. 31

Missy's in the right. Seinfeld's wife has been a shark her whole life. Just ask her 1st husband, who she immediately dumped when got her claws in Jerry.

A Shakespearian Shylock born & bred.

Re: annief – Really. Shot down by a judge who minimized women's little puree recipes and ignored or didn't understand the concept. Typical.

  33. 33

Actually, Missy Chase Lapine is 100% accurate and if you'd seen both cookbooks, you would know that. Jessica Seinfeld clearly stole Ms. Lapine's ideas.

  34. 34

Perez….Have you seen these cookbooks in question? Probably not, because if you had, you would see this stupid Seinfield woman CLEARLY stole not just her ideas, but even the layout of the book is the same….The same illustrations….I mean there are so many similarities…Basically she stole the book!

  35. 35

Hey Perez - if someone came up with a copy of your picturebook on how to take it in the ass, and used half of the same drawings and pictures of filching, etc, wouldn't you get pissed?

  36. 36

    Re: Brainiac – AGREED!!

  37. 37

Re: flora_tink – You must be one of Seinfeld's lawyers! You agreed with the ONLY post in his favor. This is really unusual, the comments are almost 100% AGAINST Jerry Seinfeld and his wife. Missy Lapine would likely have benefited from cookbook sales, this won't affect the Seinfeld's lifestyle one bit. So why did they fight her on this, oh I know "BECAUSE THEY CAN"! Jerry Seinfeld is an ASS!!

  38. 38

Perez you're such an idiot. What do you mean by "This whole lawsuit was pretty ridiculous!" No lawsuit is ridiculous, the only thing that is ridiculas is that they have so much money to run Missy Chase Lapine out of her idea and money. I read her book way before Jessica Seinfeld's Deceptively Delicious book came out. What's even sad is that she got futher press by being on Oprah to prompt her book (stolen book). Get your facts straight duchbag before making such one sided options. Now I remember why I don't visit the shit site anymore.

Re: Indigo – well maybe that's something i really don't know about jerry seinfeld. i really don't follow him too much so i might be mistaken. i'm just writing to the blog only.
