Finally! Progress!

Summit Entertainment announced today that they have officially selected a director for the final flick in the Twilight franchise. Oscar winner Bill Condon, best known for his work on Dreamgirls, will be the guiding force behind Breaking Dawn.

Though the studio has yet to reveal when and where production on the flick will take place, everyone involved seems tickled that Bill is onboard - including Bill. In a statement, the director revealed his excitement for the project and hopes to bring an "unique cinemative experience" for fans to enjoy.

As for the mastermind behind it all, Twilight author Stephenie Meyer, she is just as "thrilled" that Bill has consented to be a part of the franchise, saying"

"I'm so thrilled that Bill wants to work with us. I think he's going to be a great fit, and I'm excited to see what he does with the material."

So are we, especially if the studio attempts to cram everything in the million page book into one movie.

Which by the way, is that what you all are doing? Is it? IS IT?

C'mon! Inquiring Twi-hards are dying to know!

In the meantime, what do U think of the choice of director?

Good! Maybe they'll actually make a good movie this time… and pick up where Stephanie Meyer failed so horribly in the book. Maybe they'll save the ending of the series… ONE of the movies may actually be good now.

    2. 2

the last book was very poorly written, so i am just curious of how the screen writers are going to make a good script for the movie

and i think the director will do a great job!

    3. 3

They can pay a dozen directors to direct this it still wouldn't win an Oscar.

    4. 4

      YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY :)

    5. 5

TIM BURTON or JAMES CAMERON should have made Breaking Dawn. They're the only 2 who could have saved this shitty franchise but who cares? More Rob the better.

    6. 6

I think it's great, but I'm not confident on their selection. He doesn't seem to have the CGI experience it's going to take to pull this movie off. Don't get me wrong I love Twilight but the birth and the baby are going to be a challenge.

    7. 7

I dunno… depends on what else he's done. He's good at shooting drama but Breaking Dawn has a lot of action with a bit of gore in it (for those who read it, one scene in particular). It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. Anyone is better than Hardwicke!

    8. 8

Maybe RPatz will win the Oscar for Best Actor when he manages to portray in a sensitive, loving manner…..EDWARDCHEWINGTHEBABYOUT!!! UGH!! That is just….UGH!! HOW can you people still enjoy this shit KNOWING that?! HE. CHEWS. IT. OUT. Granted, it DID make me laugh hysterically when I read it in the book. That's right, I read them, ALL of them. I wanted to know my literary enemy! If I were a fan, at that point I would have wanted to hit Meyer with a bat.

    9. 9

Why would an Oscar winner backtrack his career to direct this shittastic movie? The book was downright redonkulous, the 2 sentence sex scene that wasn't really sex, more like fade to black with pillow biting, and let's not forget the pedophilia, cause that wasn't cringe worthy. No, not at all. Should be one helluva movie.

Wasn't 'Dreamgirls' a musical with some dance numbers? It would be hilarious if they turned Breaking Dawn into a musical. Don't get me wrong, I loved all of the books including B.D.
I'm actually exciting for the Eclipse movie. David Slade did an awesome job with '30 Days of Night', and I think he will put some bite into the new born vampires - that has been missing thus far in the movies.
So, yeah, bring on Breaking Dawn the musical!

    11. 11

wtf, this isn't progress. progress would be banning kristin stewart from ever 'acting' in this TERRIBLE movie franchise. even MORE progress would be giving stephanie meyer a frontal lobotomy as punishment for introducing us to the world of vampires and shapeshifter and her incredibly ATROCIOUS writing. SHE RUINED THE NAME OF LITERATURE. hate.

    12. 12

makes me think that the last movie is going to be a big hit, duh

    13. 13

      material…lol

    14. 14

lol @ 'does this make us legit??……….no…'

    15. 15

Great choice! They need someone of that caliber to direct this one. Especially given the twisted, freaky shit that happens in Breaking Dawn. Can he please make a special R -rated version so we can get the raunchy honeymoon sex scenes we're dying for?

    16. 16

why would he down grade himself?

Stephanie Meyer writting is no match compare to the Queen that is JK Rowling

    17. 17

      Great!

    18. 18

      YES!!!! i cannot wait!!

    19. 19

doesnt perez know that Summit decided to make Breaking Dawn into two movies?

I'm a huge TWILIGHT fan, but WTF seriously, they r not going to get an OCSAR for these movie & bringing in a director who directs musicals no chance…it's going to turn into the musical of VAMPIRES & WOLVES…
I'm sooo mad, seriously SUMMIT are A**es.

    21. 21

The only thing that would make this an oscar winning movie is if you get new script writers, fire everyone except the girl who plays Alice and the hot wolfs "Tay-Tay" is not included. Other than that the only thing they would ever be nominated for is some miniscule award like when Transformers 2 was nominated, def. not for something big like best actress or best movie.

    22. 22

Re: getouttatown – The short answer to your question would be for the money.

    23. 23

try "a unique" not "an unique" nut job

    24. 24

Wow I cannot wait to see what the hell they are going to do with this movie! The book was just bizarre to say the least and I don't think any director, oscar or no oscar, could produce a good movie from it. Could be the end of Condon's career!

    25. 25

So glad Gus Van Sant didn't stoop down and take this movie. He would have lost all credibility. Breaking Dawn was the worst book out of the whole series and that's saying something so I'm interested to see how Bill Condon will attempt to make it bearable to watch.

    26. 26

ALL the books are poorly written. But the story's awesome. Also… I would hardly call them 1,000 page books, anyone with a brain has read longer books. And I agree, hopefully this means this movie will be better, God knows how difficult it will be with Kristen Stewart. She is such a bad actress she literally makes everyone around her seem like bad actors/actresses as well. UGH. What a FAIL.

    27. 27

Re: Diva-Babe – You said it perfectly!

    28. 28

Sooooo… this is the equivelent of cow shit falling into a bowl full of M&Ms.

    29. 29

Kristen Stew can't act worth shit. They need to get rid of her.

    30. 30

i think its gonna be a real challenge to film this book. i hope it turns out right.

    31. 31

LMFAO!! I guess it's going to be a musical. And Bill is NOT an Oscar winning director. He won an Oscar for writing the screenplay for Chicago. His directing is not that impressive. Plus it doesn't matter how talented he is, it will take a trillion MIRACLES to even make that twilight film watchable. The other 3 are just disgustingly bad and I have a feeling Breaking Sun (or whatever) will be 10 times worse.

    32. 32

Perez, do you know Condon (or know those who do)? Breaking Dawn is about marriage, honeymoons, pregnancy, child birth, and the worst in-law problems in history. And, of course, meeting the sky-high expectations of the fans. What do you think? Can Condon, professionally and personally, pull it off??

    33. 33

Who cares…and by the way. They can finish this series in one movie. There is no need for 2 movies. There is not enough material in the book that warrants 2 movies. They must be adding some things that was not in the book. I mean really do we need an entire chapter to Bella drinking and throwing up blood?

    34. 34

dear perez. ive been watching and reading your twilight posts and after an unwarranted twihard bash recently i was pissed. but i am glad to see youre finally coming around :-) thanks

btw, i do think its an interesting twist to have an "oscar producer" but i dont think it will achieve the same status as many cult movies arent successful in that arena, unless youre the lord of the rings - which i still cant sit thru.

      35

Not so sure that there choice is going to make the movie any better than the other 3. Stephanie Meyer turned the vampire lore into some stupid teenage wet dream. That is the one of the many reasons I could not get into the movies and I actually thought the books were boring!! The actors chosen to play these characters couldn't even make me like it, they are jsut as boring. Meyer's totally ruined the lore by taking away the fangs and turning it into a teen love story - SO BORING AND LAME!! I think this franchise sucks!!

    36. 36

PLEASE PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE, I BEG THE DIRECTOR AND SCREENWRITERS, to change that horrible endingggg! Im a twi hard and when I read the last book i was sooo oo dissapointed! We should do a campaign to change that horrible 4th book. Perez promote a campaign against the real and absurd ending of BREAKING DAWN, we all know it's gonna be the crappiest movie of them all. xoxo!

    37. 37

What does it matter who directs this travesty?? The books are garbage, the writing is adolescent, the actors suck, it's pure crap. Unless the director plans to make a different movie than what was written, it's still going to be garbage, and his reputation will just end up tarnished for having associated himself with it.

    38. 38

it will never in a million years win any respected awards

    39. 39

Loving your annotations on the pic, mario :D

wtf? twilight doesnt deserve an oscar director
