How is this any different than when they gave her an alternate prom in the 1st case? Everyone was welcome to that too.

Seriously, you really suck for thinking this is a good idea? Why because the idots at the ACLU planned it? You are a hypocrite.

  8. 8

love it! have a great time, constance!

Re: slite – The 'alternate' prom was rigged from the get go.
This offer is coming from a genuine place. Maybe some of the kids who were in attendance at the first prom by default that left Constance out will decide to take this chance and stand up for what they really feel instead of mirroring some parental views or just going along to get along. Many of those kids wouldn't have known that Constance was being tricked. I hope they decide to go if they feel that what happened was wrong.

  10. 10

Ghost writter, will mario BIG TOOTH F*CKR be there at the prom?
so only a dozen kids will go to this prom?

  11. 11

It's a great idea. I just hope kids show support and go and have a fun time!

  12. 12

let me guess.. perez, will YOU be one of those surprise guests?

    Good, she definately deserves it!

  14. 14

Talk about beating a dead horse…ugghhh!!!!

  15. 15

I don't quite see how this is any kind of "win" for her. This isn't a prom, it's just a publicity concert. Some of the kids from her school may attend, but it won't be for her benefit at all, just to see the bands. So, in reality, they are just rewarding the people who alienated her in the first place. Way to go idiot.

  16. 16

You know when I was in high school if there was even a remote chance you were gay or bi you were pretty much fucked, ignored and/or made fun of. Now you get to come out, have alternate proms, get the ACLU on your side and make headlines.

  17. 17

Perez my love, you need to go and bring some of your musical acts with you…this is IMPORTANT! And thanks to the Humanists, once again they show themselves to be better than the christians

  18. 18

Never underestimate the kindess of strangers and the power of the truth … or the stupidity and intolerance of most of Itawamba Agricultural High School parents and administration.
Rock it with pride, Constance and girlfriend!

  19. 19

Enough with this stooooooopid ass story

  20. 20

Re: jenn78 – Respect would have been for her to be able to go to the original prom…this is just special treatment.

  21. 21

I think thats awesome. Especially because it's being hosted in the town that I am from. This will be great for the city. I hope it's a big success.

There u go glorifying being a homo again. Jesus dude enough already. We get it do you have to celebrate and glorify it all the time. Y do " you love it". My god sick buck tooth home. I know i know im stupid and an idiot because i think its wrong. Why am i wrong ,just because it not what you believe. I believe i have the rigfht to think and say thats its sick, just as you have the right to glorify it and celebrate this kind of disgusting behavior. If you think im idnorrant and stupid for my beliefs the you are no better than what you are calling me. Think about it

  24. 24

That's awesome! I'm so glad she gets the opportunity to be treated like a normal human being - which is ridiculous to even have to say. If anyone can do it, it's humanists.

Re: Izzards Chick – Acts like Slimy? Hasn't the poor girl suffered enough?

  26. 26

Hey Champ rocks!! Check em out at heychamp.com

  27. 27

Re: amyhearts – I would say he's definitely vying for a spot on the "special" guest list. Haha..

  28. 28

good for her, she deserves this. Does this mean we don't have to hear about this shit anymore?

  29. 29

I'm really happy for her. Now I hope we can put this to rest.

  30. 30

    she'll probably ruin this, too.

  31. 31

As I said to my parents when I was in high school as I cleared the dinner table with my arm… "I'm sick of this shit!" — guess what KIDS - you don't always get what you want! rules are rules… you are NOT special!

  32. 32

  33. 33

That was really cool of the American Humanist Association and the ACLU to not only let Candice have a prom but also all the other kids who missed out.

  34. 34

I would care….if she was hot

  35. 35

Hey Perez!! YOU SHOULD BE A SURPRISE GUEST!?!? I think its a great idea!

  36. 36

Geez, some of you people commenting are such assholes. Let the poor girl have some fun!

  37. 37

please we are all sick of this bitch, she could have gone to the the prom with her girlfriend wearing what she wanted if she had done just that, and not have to make a scene by going to the powers that be at the board, fuck her she is just a publicity hound and no one in mississippi gives a flying shit about her being gay

  38. 38

First, what many of you don't understand was that the "prom" she actually did attend was a sad set up… all acted as if they were attending the Country Club Prom–when actually the parents of other students hosted a secret prom elsewhere. In fact the only few that did show at the country club prom and who had NOT been invited to the actual party was Constance and even more heartbreaking… those in the school who have mental & physical challenges. From there a few of the girls in the school created a website to taunt and bully Constance.

  39. 39

This is a person and human who is being attacked because she stands up for her personal beliefs… how odd in this day and age we are JUDGING people not by their abilities, integrity, but by who they sleep with? Seriously? Seriously?
We in America are always screaming about infringement of our privacy and we do all we can to protect that–yet with so many the very PRIVATE act of loving someone is enough to have them ridiculed, humiliated, bullied or worse being tied to a stake in Montana to bleed to death after being beaten. Wake up AMERICA you are at war against terrorism yet daily you mimic much of those terrorist tactics when it come to something you don’t like or isn’t in your belief system. Who are we to judge? Who are we to say what is right and wrong? Isn’t that between you and who and what that individual believes?
If everyone who calls this poor girl horrible names too that energy into themselves to better life around them we would have a better world for all. BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE.

  40. 40

OH for Christ's sake, this is getting ridiculous! There are children starving in the world. Send her to Haiti to do some humanitarian work. That'll get her mind off missing her damned prom and maybe learn something about what's really important in the world.

  41. 41

Re: misconducktzcool – One lesson learned from the fake prom fiasco: Gay students who want to take gay dates to prom should be on the prom committee…just a thought.

This story is a big deal and Constance is a big deal in history. Someday kids in school will be reading stories about the gay civil rights and Constance McMillen will be in those history books. I hope that her celebrity continues to grow and develop and that she remains in the media. Her success is the biggest and best f/u to all the homophobes and haters in the country. God bless Constance McMillen.
Mario, I hope you continue to support Constance in all she does. This is one of the best stories you have ever covered…so thank you!

  44. 44

Sorry, not the same. This is like a charity ball,or worse still, like a pity party.A prom is the end of the school year event and passing out of a YEAR-GROUP. This is certainly not the same.

  45. 45

I know everybody is all gung-ho over this Constance girl, and I'm all for equal rights. However you know that she got banned from her prom and got it cancelled for everyone else because she ran around flaunting her lesbian relationship to get a rise out of the adults, like teenagers do. I doubt the straight kids, or other gay kids for that matter, ran around talking about their love of the cock or the vag. Such things aren't appropriate for school. Gay or straight. That's my opinion on the matter.

  46. 46

why is this being considered her second chance when it's ten hours away from where she lives? do they honestly think that hundreds of kids from this school are going to be able to travel over 600 miles away just to go to this? what's their reasoning for not having it in kansas if it's meant to support this girl? are they afraid of westboro? those freaks will show up to picket it no matter where it is

  47. 47

Re: FItzyH – while i agree with you that a lot of this was probably brought on by this girl's desire to get a rise out of adults, i don't think it was right that the school wouldn't allow her to bring her girlfriend to prom. when i was in high school, my school had no issue with people bringing their same sex partners to my school. and because of that, the people in my school who were gay didn't find it necessary to cause such a big fuss like this. the actions in this situation played off each other and the school officials who tried to keep her out of her prom brought all of this on themselves.

The thing about small minded people is that they don't think that they're being small minded.

  50. 50

why would she go to another prom with ppl who bullied her?

  51. 51

if her towns full of assholes then the kids have got to be assholes, they probably wont go, this whole thing is probably just getting her made fun of even more.

  52. 52

She wasn't discriminated against. The rules were boy/girl couples. She wanted to be special and have them rewrite the rules for her. When they didn't she ruined it for everyone.

Selfish chick getting her 15 minutes and I hope she's done. This is nuts.

  53. 53

Let's no rejoice yet….i'm sure how ignorant town will find a way of ruining it for her….

  54. 54

All the negative commentators…I feel sad for you. You're missing the point of equal rights vs Gay rights. Although Constance is gay, i think for her it was more about equality. And in the land of the free….everyone should be entitled to fight for equality.
