Lt. Dan Choi is at it again!

He and about 100 other LGBT activists protested “don’t ask, don’t tell" across the street from the White House, where six people chained themselves to the White House gates and were promptly arrested!

Even though he was been court ordered to avoid a certain perimeter around the White House, he attended the rally with Howard Dean, Servicemembers United executive director Alex Nicholson and Servicemembers Legal Defense Network executive director Aubrey Sarvis.

The reason for the sudden protest was because of a letter leaked Friday from the Department of Defense secretary Robert Gates to House Armed Services Committee chairman Ike Skelton urging him to delay repealing the legislative action until the Pentagon figures out how to implement new laws.

Sarvis said:

“Most journalists had turned off their computers and were safely into happy hour when the White House issued a statement.

There is a stark and not very flattering contrast here between President Obama, who follows his military, and President Truman, whose military followed him."

Governor Dean also spoke and showed his appreciation for Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan, who has been a leader on this issue.

He said:

“Carl Levin is a hero because he has the votes to tack on to the Defense authorization bill, the end of the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell.’ That is the right thing to do for America and I want to thank senator Levin for his courage.

Sen. Levin’s amendment, in fact, does what the secretary asked for in the secretary’s testimony. There is a schedule for implementation … I think there’s about a year for implementation, so the implementation is gradual, which is what the secretary asked for.”

The time has come! Equality for all!

Okay, I know this is a serious topic but can we please have a laugh at the expense of Lieutenant Dan?! Haha. Glad his name is catchy. Hopefully that will help get this passed even faster!

I think its cool that the Village People showed up and agreed to stand behind the sign!

I am all for gay rights but I think 'don't ask don't tell' is there to protect the gays. The type of people that usually join the military are those that don't accept gays very well. Plus how would they handle the changing rooms and showers? Wet naked bodies can be a turn on whether your looking or not.

What a waste of time! Really what they want is to be able to flaunt their sexuality in the armed forces. If no one asks me my sexual orientation, I do not go tell them and that is fine by me. They just want to nance around with limp wrists, lisps, and steal our best names like Lance and Bruce.

That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college!

Thank God for people like Lt. Choi. So much different than the cowards in the group "HRC" who would rather have everybody stay closeted and quiet so they can throw their parties and collect money for doing nothing. Years from now when the history of this iswritten Choi HRC will be "The Mattacchine Society" and Choi will be "The Stonewall Rebellion".

Well by your logic, then the military also shouldn't let in blacks since many of the people that join the military are from small southern towns where there is racism. You are supporting bigotry because you don't want to upset bigots.

yeah yeah - go to a country where the people have absolutely no rights then complain about what you don't have………

any soldier gay or not has my upmost respect!!! i do think they have the policy to protect these soldiers though but if they chose to say then thats their choice!

What should it mater if theyre gay or not? "Dont ask dont tell" is a way of saying "we dont care, we dont want to know." Why do gays want the right to declare they are gay in the military? It shouldnt matter!!!

My ex husband was in the Marines I lived on a Military base for awhile. I don't think this is such a good idea… Don't get me wrong, I'm bi and ALL for gay rights… but uhh… when gay guys and gay women start getting harassed and killed over this… everyone is going to start whining… again. Military men in particular are very macho and a lot of them are homophobic. (Keyword: A lot, not all.)

  13. 13

wow this is retarded. noone gives a shit about ur sexuality why do u have to tell pple?

  14. 14

Hero? He was given a second chance to stay in which he didn't deserve, he broke the UCMJ rule. Now, he is making a mockery of it. Well, in the end he will get his and then he will whine again. DADT is there to protect the gay service members. Of course, those of you who have never served in the military don't get that.

I believe in equality of all of the soldiers who are willing to fight and die for our country, that said I think we should also honor the requests of Secretary Gates. The military needs time to consider how to best go about removing the policy and what new policies will need to be set in place to protect the integrity of the military. Relationships in the military have to be monitored closely and couples inside of units are a major threat to the whole unit as they can undermine the unit's dynamic. The masculine condition causes men to want to protect their loved ones above all else, and that goes for men of every gender. This is one of several reasons that women are not allowed to serve in combat positions alongside men because there is a fear that relationships will form and compromise the units. By allowing the military the time to put in proper safeguards all of the soldiers will be better off. Past this by allowing the time for a proper integration of the new policies the LGBT community can strive for an even bigger equality, same sex marriage within the military. If the military accepted same sex marriage, and provided same sex couples with the same housing and benefits of the other couples it would be a success for the LGBT community on a NATIONAL level.
