Was Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Now, the title belongs to Tim Burton and his adaptation of Alice in Wonderland.

As of this morning, Alice surpassed the Hobbits by 3 million dollars, reaching an astounding $928.9 million at the box-office worldwide.

And it's all thanks to Johnny Depp. (And the surge of IMAX theaters and 3D movies, no doubt.)

Congrats!

Re: Kittencaboodle – really? i think it looks more like Madonna.

  3. 3

let me say that –> thats exactly what i was expecting for
plus let me say that it will pass the 1 billion dollars
eaither using worlwide saled for the next month of DVD,Bluray sales later
and if Clash & Dragons would've come out later it would pass billiob by now…

  4. 4

I walked out halfway…..mega boring….figures it would gross in the top 10…

  5. 5

2012 is happening: Crappy movies like Alice and Twilight are making tons of money

You have to keep in mind that 3D movie tickets are way more expensive than a ticket to a 2D movie… Maybe they have bigger revenues, but that doesnt mean that MORE PEOPLE went to see it. The same happened Avatar vs Titanic. A movie ticket nowadays costs more than it did 12 years ago.

  7. 7

And undeserving of it, since Burton and company totally phoned the movie in. My biggest disappointment of the year, but it's not a completely horrible film.

  8. 8

wasn't even shot for true 3D….dumb ass's will watch anything

    THIS INFORMATION IS WRONG….

AS of today according to the official list, Alice in wonderland has made $879.1 million, with al of the biggest markets done, there is no way it jumped to $928.9 according to box office mojo all time list.

Uhhhh! Stupidest movie ever! Except for Lord of the Rings. Also stupid.

  11. 11

3 of the Harry Potters are in the top 10:) And all 6 in the top 30:) Harry Potter will ALWAYS beat twilight… Sorry i know its not to do with Alice but i felt the need to get that out!

  12. 12

    That movie was booooooring !

  13. 13

WOW that movie must be hella good if it grossed that much…

  14. 14

… which is all proof that "word of mouth" isn't what it used to be. This movie was awful.

  15. 15

    yay for imax3d!!!
that movie is nothing without imax3d

You know all these 3-D movies breaking these records…. I have my doubts.

Yes, the money coming in is true… but The Lord of the Rings did not have HELP from high priced I-MAX ticket sales. It's making a HUGE difference on these movies like AVATAR…. so yes, they are getting some extra help.

    How…sad

  18. 18

wtf this movie is that high up?
i bet you everyone who watched this was high… it would make a good trip (:

I wish they would calculate it by number of tickets sold instead of dollar amount. I'm sure tickets have gotten more expensive since LOTR was released.

  20. 20

interesting. Everybody says the movie was shit, but somehow it got to top 10 => everybody watched it => praise the marketing and Johnny Depp!

  21. 21

This just in: everyone in the world has shit taste in movies.

  22. 22

    Johnny Depp is GOOOOLLLLLLDDDD!!!

  23. 23

Re: MP – Yeah, I agree. Like how Avatar (wtf is that movie about? I didn't understand it in the previews/trailers so I didn't even consider seeing it when it did come out) beat out Titanic?

& Perez, I love Johnny Depp, but I'm pretty sure Tim Burton had something to do with it as well.

Re: Kittencaboodle – its the gap in the teeth i think….

  25. 25

    Why?

  26. 26

I loved it. I refuse to see shit in 3-D though. Its a waste of $$.
