Mamas Are Naming Their Babies After Twilight Characters And The World Implodes

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooWacky, Tacky & TrueTwilight

22twilight-cover__opt.jpg

Is this for real?

The most popular baby names in the U.S. right now are Isabella and Jacob.

As in Twilight's Isabella Swan and Jacob Black???

And even more disgusting amazing, CULLEN was the fastest-rising baby name of 2009. As in Edward Cullen!!!

Come on now, people. Nothing is more embarrassing than telling people you named your baby after a teen romance about a sparkling vampire.

Trailer Park Republicans in the Bible Belt are doing this, I reckon.

  2. 2

I named my daughter Asha after Ash from "Pokemon" which to this day I think is sweet! :) My husband and I were talking about Pokemon when we met and Pokemon was brand new to America at the time. If she had been a boy it would have been Ash! :)

  3. 3

omg shutup perez im pregnant with twins and was mplanning to name her isabella and jacob thanks alot for ruining it

  4. 4

omg shutup perez im pregnant with twins and was planning to name her isabella and him jacob thanks alot for ruining it

  5. 5

Jacob and Isabella have been popular names for a while.
Not everyone's using them because of Twilight.

  6. 6

    People have issues wtf?!?!?1

  7. 7

Isabella and Jacob are completely normal names. Just because they are being used does not mean that people are naming their children after Twilight names. Now Cullen is strange.

  8. 8

ew! those are ugly names I hope no one makes fun of me for naming my son shia (shia labeouf) every older person says it shay and has neevr heard of the actor

  9. 9

And yet, my cousin aqnd his wife named their baby Isabella. And his wife uttered the phrase "You complete me" at their wedding. I am ashamed to be related to these people.

  10. 10

no. no no no. dear god, no.

    11

Hey idiot… Jacob and Isabella have long been on the "most popular name" list… way before twilight…stupid

  12. 12

my idiot cousin just named her baby Cullen Edward…no joke.

  13. Rosh says – reply to this

    13

My friends middle name is Cullen and he is definitely older than the books.. So the names aren't that uncommon before the book.

  14. 14

My son is named Cullen. And I named him that before I read the Twilight books. Weird. Cullen is an Irish name that means handsome, wild animal. Very fitting for my son, and the Cullen family.

  15. 15

My sister is naming her son Matthew Edward, and yes the Edward IS after Twilight.

  16. 16

Re: LisaRose – I love you xD hahaha!! Lol jk, that's cute tho :] pokemon is the best anime ever!

  17. 17

I work in a hospital, and the most popular names coming out right now are the ones the girls give their babies on 16 and pregnant… at least for the mom's under 21.

  18. 18

jacob was already number 1 for a couple years now. not just cuz of twilight.

  19. 19

Ugh this sucks. I was going to name my girl Isabella. NOT ANYMORE.

  20. 20

I named my son CULLEN fifteen years ago … because it is Gaelic for 'handsome' and because it wasn't trendy like "Connor" - which was the most popular boy name that year. I damn-near DIED when Twilight came out & the character's name was Edward Cullen … all the while he was a little boy, I could never find a single thing with his name pre-printed on it (think cutesy little license plates) … and now … well, I still LOVE the name & I love that MY Cullen is an original … NOT a vampire!

  21. 21

When those Mums grow up they're going to regret it

  22. 22

If you're contemplating naming your child after anything in this poorly written farce then I want to personally kick you in the uterus.

  23. 23

Jacob has been the number one boys name for the last ELEVEN years! My son was born in 2007 and I named him Jacob and that was before Twilight came out.

  24. 24

they have been at/near the top of that list for years..do some research before making assumptions…but I guess that's why you're just a blogger and not a reporter.

  25. 25

I don't see the problem, my mom named me Erica as in Erica Kane from the 80's soap opra all my children. I love my name so no harm no foul, besides those names are pretty generic it isn't like people are naming thier kid Shrek…. I hope

  26. 26

Re: Kimber21 – - Good grief! Now THAT is scary!

  27. 27

What no Renesamee-whatca-ma-call-it? The crappy name of the half vampire brat the characters have. Whoops I guess I dumped a spoiler. My bad!

  28. rpt23 says – reply to this

    28

um hey douche, those names have been popular for YEARS. it has nothing to do with twilight.. its amazing how retarded you are

  29. 29

    Stupid knocked up cun*ts.

  30. 30

    "What's your name?"
    "Isabella"
    "Wow! Are your parents italian?"
"No, my mother is a twilight saga fan!"

  31. 31

I think it's great!! The Twilight series might seem like a silly teen romance novel to a lot of people but it really brought so much enjoyment and a wonderful escape to so many of us "twilight moms". Nothing wrong w/ that! I also think Cullen is a very cool name.

  32. 32

I'm naming my kids bella and emmet

  33. 33

    Idiots.

  34. 34

    Re: ShoeWhore

    Agreed!

  35. 35

    Re: lalalandlover

You should be forced to have an abortion.

  36. 36

As usual, you don't know what you're talking about. Jacob has always been a popular name, and the name Isabella has been on the rise for years. I actually wanted to name my daughter Isabella before Twilight, but the damn book ruined it for me!

  37. 37

horrible!! It's sad I always loved the name Isabel.

  38. 38

    what a shame

  39. 39

the fate of the world rest on idiots that can reproduce and can't seem to have a single original thought…

  40. 40

every girl i know named bella is a bitch or a bad ass 4 y old devil child

  41. 41

I have a son named Jake…who was born in 2007 so like 2 yrs before i even read the books…..and a kitty named Bella…whick Jake chose anyways….i think its silly to name your children after a movie you are obsessed with…..silly ppl

  42. 42

    Re: LisaRose
I can't lie, that is so insanely cool. And Asha, as non-traditional names go, is the only one that doesn't make me want to pull my hair out screaming at the parents.

  43. 43

Any person naming their child after a character from horrible literature such as Twilight should just…. I don't even know.

  44. 44

i've always loved the name isabella; i even wanted to change my own name to that. but that was WAAAYYY before twilight was even made into a book!

  45. 45

Isabella and Jacob have been the #1 names for several years. Jump to conclusions much?

  46. 46

shut up bella is a beautiful name sorry mario or fucking perez isn't at the top of the list. THAT WOULD BE DISGUSTING. true blood is better but twilight is awesome becuz it gives poor deprived morman children in strick households the ability to explore the vampire realm. sorry it doesn't have werewolf sex but fucking come on its a morman writer lay off!!! and kristen stewart is sooo pretty so stop talking shit. like r-patz would really go for u!

  47. 47

Just as bad as naming your kid something that means nothing (Hunter, Doogan, Ryder) is naming your kid something that means too much (suicidal co-dependent behavior).

  48. 48

Re: pmhtur – what a pathetic comment

  49. 49

I read the article today on yahoo.com about baby names. Jacob has been the top boy name since 2002 and Isabella has been in the top 10 girl names since 2004…both well before twilight came out. The only one that may have any correlation is Cullen.

  50. 50

Re: BlueEstah – yeah that would sound hella stupid

  51. 51

hey moron isabella is spanish not italian….lay off bella and bells is cute, you honestly think 10-15 years from now ppl will actually care about twilight?

  52. 52

Jacob has always been a incredibly popular name

  53. 53

y not? i named my son Landon after the main character in the nicholas sparks book a walk to remember which was made into a movie staring the yummy shane west!

  54. 54

Re: Mangina – um how is it a spoiler if the book came out so long ago?

  55. 55

i just read the books last year and realized my 5yo daughters name is EXACTLY the same: isabella marie. i almost fell out! i hope no one thinks i named my daughter after those books!! luckily jacob and isabella have been popular for a LONG time.

  56. 56

Listen, name your kids after True Blood. It's way better then Twilight ok. Stop THE TWILIGHT MADNESS!!!! Lmao

  57. 57

well, my daughter was named after a robot (Eva from Wall-E)… so… that might be a little more embarrassing than being named after a teen romance novel.

  58. 58

my sons name is Jacob. It was going to be Jacob Robert, then I thought about it, and realized i'd seem like an oober stupid twihard fan. I've never seen or read the books.

  59. 59

It is absolutely ridiculous to name your child after such a crappy book/movie.
BUT at least they're normal names. Just embarassing when they're older and have to admit why they named their children what they did.

  60. 60

Ohhhh come on those are super common names.. where do you thinks Stephanie got those from?

  61. odile says – reply to this

    61

god damn, people are fucking stupid.

  62. 62

I don't get it. The author's writing is absolutely horrid. I read the first book and was laughing. I guess I have to be a 14 year old girl to appreciate it. True Blood is where it's at, people.

  63. 63

  64. 64

At least they are normal names - anyone who calls their kid Renesmee needs to be shot.

  65. 65

Just imagine when these kids start going to school and there 6 Isabella's and 5 Jacob's in the same class…any parent that name there kid becuase of this book must not have the full maturity to be parents.

  66. 66

my names isabella.clearly…people saying its an ugly name, is rude much?yup.think so.like naming it after a character in a book is weird.but, whatever floats your boat!

  67. 67

well what do you expect? most of today's mothers ARE about age 13, right?

  68. 68

"Come on now, people. Nothing is more embarrassing than telling people you named your baby after a teen romance about a sparkling vampire."

Uhm, naming YOURSELF after Herpasore Whore Filth…yeah, no… not embarrassing at all.

  69. 69

god damn twilight! For years I had planned to name my first boy Edward. Then the books became uber popular and now suddenly everyone is naming their boys Edward :( I guess I could use it as a middle name, but still, I hate that it's associated with the books/movies

  70. 70

Re: MISS CLEO – Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww SNAP!!! ROFL!!!

  71. 71

Ridiculous, Isabella has always been one of my favourite names. Twilight has nothing to do with the matter whatsoever. I have never actually met someone with the name yet. Jacob is a fairly common name where I live, never met anyone with the name Edward or Cullen

  72. 72

Give a fucking break when those kids are 40 no one will even remember Twilight.

  73. 73

We are doomed as a society. Just when I thought blinded ignorant fools couldn't get any more celebrity obsessed I hear about this crap. People that name their child after anything entertainment related obviously have something going wrong with their head and don't have the maturity to even have a kid. These people she be forced to have an abortion followed by a vasectomy and the girl getting her tubes tied to prevent reproduction.

  74. 74

I asked my husband …if we have another son could I name him Sawyer James Ford after my Josh but he said NO ….that son of a bitch

  75. 75

Jacob and Isabella have two of the top names for years now…no credit to Twilight.

  76. nikea says – reply to this

    76

Really Perez…Come one….Jacob and Isabella are perfect names…..Ohhhh come on those are super common names.. where do you think Stephanie got those from?
I bet these names are on the top list for 2010!!

  77. 77

Re: melfalt – lol That just made my day!
But, actually, Isabella and Jacob have been popular names for a long time now. Isabella is such a beautiful name. I would have named my first daughter that, but my name is Jessica, and I know how popular that name is. Cullen is a Irish name I believe. Its just lame that they have to get the names from a stupid book. They are all beautiful names though, regardless.

  78. 78

And just for how many years have those names been on the most popular list? Isabella was a popular name for a really long time, and I know at least six people named Jacob. Isabella happens to be my favorite name in the world, and I don't even like Twilight. I just love that name. Jacob is perfectly normal. I should hope that most women are mature enough to not name their kids after books they shouldn't even be reading. Cullen - that's a weird one that we can attribute to Twilight. But the other two, I doubt have anything to do with Twilight.

  79. 79

OMG U HAVE TO BE S***TING ME THIS IS INSANE WHO THE F*** CARES WAT OTHER PPL NAME THEIR KIDS…..PERSONALLY I WOULD LOVE TO NAME MY FUTURE DAUGHTER RENESMEE LEE, I THINK THAT RENESMEE IS A BEAUTIFUL NAME AND THE STEPHANIE MEYER IS BRILLIENT FOR COMING UP WITH IT, FURTHERMORE ALL THE TWILIGHT HATERS HAVE A RIGHT TO THEIR OPINION YES BUT THE REST OF US WHO ARE TWI-HARDS DON'T CARE.

  80. 80

My sister-in-law named my niece "Isabella, and it was definitely not after Bella from Twilight.

  81. 81

Re: pnessenvy – Y CHANGE IT? it's ur baby name it wat u want i know 5 different Isabella's it's a common name (just have a diff reasone to use it)

  82. 82

Re: kiwijes – excuse me but i think that Renesmee is a beautiful name and when i read Breaking Dawn i thought "hmm how original not something that is a common name." so i AM planning on naming my future daughter Renesmee. ppl like u will have to get over it
    SO SHOOT ME!!!!!

  83. 83

Re: annapkillsit – I AGREE!!!! i am not a true blood fan tho. i am into twilight majorly. i fell in love with it because of the no sex thing. plus even in breaking dawn it doesn't go into detail on how the do anything it's they make out-break-next morning. tht's good…amazing for younger readers. so i think tht all the people need to stop with the crap of the "oh twilights dumb…" crap…like my parents told me opinions are alike a**holes everyone has one.

  84. 84

ehehe… it's kinda funny. at least they're traditional names (Isabella and Jacob), i don't know about cullen though…

  85. 85

All right, not bad names… knew people in school whose professor dad named them all (girls) after amino acids… could get a lot worse than this! Never heard the name Cullen before, but I kinda like it, regardless where it came from.

  86. 86

Re: Poindexter-X – and wow you should have been aborted. you're an ass!

  87. 87

    Re: My Jacobs Baby Girl
    …and Jesus wept

  88. 88

    Twi-hards…just…won't…die!

The names are names, but if theyre seriously from twilight and they expect their kids to sparkle or to be a damsel in distress-pansy they need help

  89. 89

If I was ever to name a daughter, it would be Isabella. But it's so common now. :\

I'd rather name a girl Sophia, my second choice. (:

  90. 90

The book copied the trend. Isabelle/a etc. and Jacob are already EVERY OTHER KID at the playground. It's the "Jennifer" "Jeff" of 30 years ago!

  91. Nesa says – reply to this

    91

WTF white women are fucked up in the head.

  92. 92

okay so when we were trying to come up with names for our baby girl, my fiancee's cousin said Isabella. We totally fell in love with it and decided that was her name. then someone asked if it was because of twilght and it totally confused us- we have never seen it or read it or anything. when we asked his cousin what was up, she said oh yeah i am a huge twilight fan and thats where i got it…..by then we already loved it too much to change it!!

  93. 93

Re: MRS. JOSH HOLLOWAY – My daughter is 4 and her name is Sawyer. I had the name picked out for 10 years and people ALWAYS ask me if I named her after Lost. I've honestly never seen a single episode of it but Sawyer is a bad ass name. Ask your hubby to reconsider. :)

  94. 94

And yeah, anyone that names their kid Isabella now is just stupidly uncreative. I have so many friends with girls named Isabella, that we had to nickname them all to keep them straight. It was the same with the name "Lauren." I had so many little girls on the softball team that I coached that were named Lauren, that I had to call them all by their last names. They were 5 OF THEM! So stupid…

  95. 95

What you failed to mention is that Isabella and Jacob have both been on the top ten lists for years….at least 5 each. So, when MSN wrote the article, they chose to highlight the two names because the coincidence. Ever thought Stephenie Meyer jacked those two names FROM the top ten lists?!

  96. 96

    people are so lame.

  97. 97

I've always loved the name Jacob since I was little…

  98. 98

I hope its not a popular trend in spanish speaking people, because Cullen sounds like Culo or Culon which means ass or big ass

  99. 99

I would SO name my child Britney Jean if I was American and it wouldn't sound too stupid in my country. I LOVE Beyonce too but her name is toooooo over the top for a normal child. :D

  100. 100

I should add - I'd also give my children the names of Britney's babies - Sean Preston and Jayden James if it wouldn't sound stupid in my country. :D
