Mamas Are Naming Their Babies After Twilight Characters And The World Implodes

Is this for real?
The most popular baby names in the U.S. right now are Isabella and Jacob.
As in Twilight's Isabella Swan and Jacob Black???
And even more disgusting amazing, CULLEN was the fastest-rising baby name of 2009. As in Edward Cullen!!!
Come on now, people. Nothing is more embarrassing than telling people you named your baby after a teen romance about a sparkling vampire.

Fist Pumping For Love!

My sister named her daughter Isabella.. but shes never seen a twilight movie.
apparently people reading this do not quite understand. people are not just naming their children isabella, jacob, and edward. their middle names are swan, black, and cullen. as in there is probably some child out there named edward cullen smith and another child named isabella swan jones. that's why this is ridiculous and proof that there are far too many teenage girls getting pregnant right now. isabella, jacob, edward, and even cullen are fine names BY THEMSELVES. put them together to form the name of a twilight character, then it's just nuts and weird and creepy and i feel sorry for all of those kids.
Stupid lame ass book! I have always loved the name Isabella for my future daughter and now no way in hell will I name her that! I don't want her growing up with people asking her if she was named after that annoying character. And I have to wonder if all these new moms are 15, 16, years old? Because really what normal grown woman would WANT to name her child after a name she got out of badly written teen romance book?
Re: LisaRose – Asha is just an ordinary very common moslem girl's name
My friend Dracula Greenberg will get a kick outta this.
Terrif— My friends Dracula Greenberg and Bela Lipschitz will br thrilled.
What kind of moronic, half-witted fucks would name their kids after characters in these books? Probably teenage moms.
People used to name thier kids after epic literature, names like Ophelia and stuff. What is this amdness? Justincase anybody is wondering , I am naming my kid Neville after Neville LongBottom in Harry Potter
*facepalm* S…M…H…
Re: dramamama – love it!
well is it sad that i want to call my children (when im older) harry and hermione
When I was pregnant with my son, I didn't know if he was going to be a boy or a girl and Isabella and Jacob were both on the list of names I liked…that was in 2006…same with when I was pregnant with my daughter…and I didn't even HEAR of Twilight till the night I spent in the hospital after I gave birth to her when a friend of mine brought me a book to read.
I'm going to guess that Perez made a pass at one of the guys from Twilight, and got shot down…he used to be worse than any teenage girl for being over-excited about anything to do with Twilight, and suddenly the last little while he hates everyone and everything to do with it??
The name Jacob has been VERY popular for a while. Trust me, I'm a teacher. It probably has little or nothing to do with Twilight.
Actually, Pig Face, what's more embarrassing is telling people you read an increasing lame blog.
Neck sucking at 10:00 p.m.
I'm going to have to agree with ShoeWhore on this one. I mean those names are nice but really the most popular names after a vampire movie? No wonder American is fucked up.

Re: ShoeWhore – I totally agree with you ShoeWhore.

Or there is an increase in teen pregnancies….ew
Bottom line: naming a baby is a huge undertaking. I have always loved the name Isabella - it reminds me of Spain's greatest Queen, not Bella Swan. The trend seems to be a return to very feminine names for baby girls and masculine names for baby boys. I much prefer them to celeb baby names like Moxie Crimefighter or Pilot Inspektor. I'm mom to Bethany who was named after several local musicians who are also excellent examples of what it is to be American women.
Re: LisaRose – That's a really pretty name LisaRose.
Jacob has been the most popular boys name for 10 years now, so this has nothing to do with Twilight. Nice try.
Cullen is not a weird name. I named my son Cullen almost 5 years ago before this whole thing exploded. I do have trouble sometimes I always say his name is Cullen not Colin. I called the doctors office last week and I said his name and started to spell it and the girl was like–oh like Edward Cullen lol. Ummmm yes I guess so whatever gets u to spell it correctly. I love love love the name. It is a strong name in my opinion.
Are people this stupid? Their kids are going to have their names for THE REST OF THEIR LIVES!!!!!!!! Isabela and Jacob are common but CULLEN?? Not only should they be embaressed to tell people they named their kid CULLEN after twi (even tho they would prob. deny it….) their kid will have to live with their parents stupid, stupid mistake forever.
I feel bad for these kids. Hope they tell their parents how they f-ed up.
This chick said it best: If you're contemplating naming your child after anything in this poorly written farce then I want to personally kick you in the uterus.
How…unfortunate. My 5-year-old daughter is Isabella. I read the first book of the Twilight series and thought is was poorly edited tripe. I'm mildly irritated that my daughter shares a name with Bella Swan, but hey, what can I do? We thoughtfully and carefully chose her name long before that piece of crap hit bookstores, and she'll live with it long after the Twilight fad has faded.
So…parents are naming their kids "Gay Sparkling Vampire"?
Crud. Now im scared to name my kid alice.
Whats next people start decorating vampire themed nurseries?
Re: EyelineredHeart – Argh! Sophia and isabella are my favourite names for girls and fucking hate twilight.
The names Isabella and Jacob have been rising for a while and I suspect they were used by the author because of their widespread popularity. I know three people who have young daughters named Isabel or Isabella. It's been around about a decade. Jacob even longer — inkow dozens of Jacobs. "Cullen" in more unusual, I must admit, although I just finished campaigning for a judicial candidate named Cullen who is in his md-30s. (He lost his primary, but he'll be back)
Re: LisaRose –
Hey I dont know if your already know this, but Asha is a popular indian name. it means "hope" in sanskrit.
Re: LisaRose – thats quite a common name….
Name your kids after Catholic Saints and you will be good. Research proves that people named weird or trendy names don't earn as much or get as much respect. But Jacob and Isabella are classic, beautiful names - just don't EVER tell your kids why they were named that!
Not that I'm saying it's just coincidence, but those are pretty popular names to begin with. I knew a ton of people naming their daughters Bella long before the popularity of these books and movies. It's not like the names the writer chose are unique…like say…Hermione.
that would explain all the Isabella `s and Jacob `s that come into my work. they are all little brats though…
Isabelle is very popular, i know i few girls who have named their daughter that.. and this was before twilight. Jacob has been popular for years… When people start naming there daughters Sookie after true blood then we know we have problems.
Re: My Jacobs Baby Girl – Please have your uterus removed ASAP.
Truth be told, I want to name my son Jude after one of my favorite songs. Isabella, Jacob, and Cullen are beautiful names, but RENESMEE?? Poor kid is gonna catch a lot of hell later in life when Twilight has been completely forgotten about.
WoW! i hope Renesme isnt next
i know someone who is due with her 3 child this week and the second she found out she was pregnant she knew she was going to name her isabella from Twilight. its really sad.
{erez - Women have been naming their babies after soap opera characters since the 50's… and older names have been making a comeback for awhile now (Isabelle is pretty common in Canada). That said, I pity the poor baby boys out there saddled with "Cullen", it's an ugly first name.
I presume these are babies of very young mothers…
Re: pmhtur – I'm a 30-something mom & I've read Twilight to see what all the buzz was about. It's ok as a suspence novel, but that's about it. As an escape? Not really a place or a "love story" I'd like to ecape to, even IF i needed an escape…
I think it's more likely that she picked those names for her characters, because they were already trendy (they've been in the top 10 for years), than that the book has much to do with those names being #1 this year.
I don't see anything wrong with that. Popular culture affects people's lives. It makes sense.
I am preggo with a little girl and was going to name her Rosalie, but after this epidemic…my husband and I decided on Lucy. We don't here it very often, so we thought it would be a good name.
Kind of annoying for people who wanted to name their kid Isabella before those books!
pathetic… but cullen would be a really cute boys name if it weren't for the whole twilight thing..
My son is Kellan, but it's NOT after Kellan Lutz!
Re: tinkerbell2405 – Lucy is however, one of the most popular names for dogs and cats. Just FYI….
What's wrong with u Perez? u were as twihard as it can get and now u r calling the books POOR WRITTEN? who the hell r u to say that? or any of the other people the are just like parrots, repeating what they hear or read, who the hell r u all? Gabriel Garcia Marquez or Isabel Allende? you are not a professional writer eiher Perez, you are a blogguer not a journalist k? I think u r doing this just to get people to answer ur comments that's all, but if u could have a baby u were defenetly cllng him Edward Cullen Perez lol =)
The names are fine, I mean if u like a name from a song {mi son's name is also JUDE} or a book or a movie, or a saint perhaps, whatever u got it from, Hey, it's ur child, if the baby doesn't like it, she/he can always cange it once they grow up.
umm…and nick naming yourself after some skinny white dumb retard is any better…i'd rather be named after a book that sold millions then after a dumbass who went to jail over one drink!
Re: Poindexter-X – you're a dumb fuck and i bet ur mom wishes she had done that to the rude fuck kid she has now!
if i have a boy, i want to call him cullen. in irish, ive read that it means handsome king! PLUS-i thought that jacob has been the number one baby boy name since 1999?!
why would you name your kid after a sick heartless bitch? why don't you just name it buttlicker?
Re: lalalandlover – hahahaha! well said tho.hes a wanker ruining shit like that
oh stfu perez people can do wot they want.its not there fault twilight is awwwsome!
i am a HUGEEE twihard and named my kitten jasper but i dont know if i would go as far as naming my child a twilight name. I didnt even want to name him edward because i though that was even a little to much
well i just named my cat jasper if that counts.
Jacob and Isabella are nice names. So what Perez?
I say name ur kids woteva the fuck u want. My girls name is Shakur after the late great 2Pac…..and shes white!!!
First let me start by saying that I love love love The Twilight Saga. Or anything related to that genre. But its really getting crazy that every little thing is either being blamed or compared to the Twilight Saga or the whole Vampire theme. Has anyone seen what people in Hollywood are naming their kids? Check it out..and then Isabella Swan, Jacob Black, and Edward Cullen will be very normal. What is it going to be next? That people are naming their kids after Damon and Stefan Salvatore and Elena Gilbert from the Vampire Diaries too. Which is an EXCELLENT show!! When Twilight first came out everyone hopped on the bandwagon. Especially you Perez. Now you are acting different. If you were saying that young girls were getting pregnant on purpose to name there child after Twilight characters, then there really would be a problem. But that is not the case. Leave things alone. Names are only names. Jeezas.
The Twilight books may not be the most well-written things out there, but as a Mormon myself I do admire the morals she includes in the books. I think its awesome that Bella and Edward didn't sleep together before they were married, and I think it sets a wonderful example. As for the names, I like them both very much, and I also think Cullen is a great boy's name!
