This is definitely mainstream but don't talk like you know that she is just listening to the big wigs. Do research. This song is supposed to be lighthearted, bubblegum sounding music. Her whole album will not be this way for sure. If you would stop talking out of your ass and do the research you would find that her new album is more mature and darker than her previous album. Katy tells dasding radio, "In the beginning, I was talking about how I wanted it to be like, Ace of Base meets the Cardigans' 'Love Fool' — very roller-skatey, very summertime. And it is exactly that." But Katy is quick to point out that that doesn't mean the album is shallow. She says, "[It has] a bit more meat….a bit more substance. It's not all cotton candy. It's a hot dog, too."
The lyrics in this song are on the shallow side yes, BUT IT IS MEANT TO BE. It's a fun loving song, perfect for summertime. You can judge all you want when the album comes out. Don't make assumptions pal, makes an ass out of you and me.

I don't like it. I liked her first album which had more of a pop/rock sound. It was accessible but a little different. This is too electronic and dancey, too much like all the other superficial divas like Britney, Christina,Keisha etc.

Dr luke was my favorite producer until now. He wrote and produced Circus and Shattered glass for Brit, Party in the USA for Miley, Katy Perry's I kissed a girl and Hot and Cold. Ke$ha's Tik Tok. In my opinion Cali Gurls is the worst song he've ever done.
It feels like he opened the session from Tik Tok, changed the hook, and fills and just filled with new lyrics. It takes away every bit of the personality of Katy Perry. He even reused the same vocal fxs. For me every artist should sound unique. Congratulations she is now part of the generic bullshit that you hear on radio everyday. I dont know how much luke charged for producing that song, but he should return that check.
