Ryan Murphy Gets An Angry Letter From Glee Cast!

It maybe the most popular TV show on FOX right now, but everything isn't so gleeful on the set of Glee.

Sources are claiming that the kids are feeling overworked and have fired off an angry letter to creator Ryan Murphy, demanding the network ease off them a bit.

Some might consider this a little ungrateful and perhaps a little premature, considering they have only just finished their first season. But consider that not only are the kids constantly filming, they are also in dance rehearsals for the show, in the recording studio for the soundtrack, preparing for countless TV show appearances and practicing for the upcoming tour.

Sounds like a hell of a lot to us!

But what did Ryan have to say back to his pack of performers?

We hear he was "irritated and dismissive" to the cast, telling them: "'I report to Fox, you report to me' and this is the schedule Fox has set, so 'I don't want to hear it.'"

Whoa! We think someone else might be feeling a little overworked as well!

We hate to say it, but if things are really that bad, nothing will change until one of you kids just passes out in the middle of set from exhaustion. Then they might finally get the hint.

We suggest it be you, Lea Michele. Nothing like almost losing your star to ensue a change!

It's an amazing show, it's really well done. So, I can see how they're overworked.

  2. 2

A typical TV show has actors working 12 hours a day ON SET. This doesn't include tv appearances, dance rehearsal, and audio track recording for music. These kids are likely working 80-90 hours per week.

So before any of you 9-5 people say that they should be grateful and to try and get a real job, I guarantee you these kids work harder then you ever will in your entire life.

  3. 3

Why is there a loser in a wheelchair(ity) on stage?

  4. 4

omfg!!! i totally think that is outrageous and hopeful they do ease up on them and no one passes out!! I love Glee!!

Re: Circa023 – Are you speaking from experience or have you "just heard"? I'm sure this show has a crazy schedule and a lot of demands of its cast HOWEVER…there's the friggin door!
I got into the business when I was 13, was working professionally by the time I was 15 and was a contract player on a still airing soap when I was 24. Some days were terribly long. Other days you work for 3 hours and go home. Mr. Murphy, I ASSURE YOU, does not have that luxury and you don't see him firing letters off to Fox.
A LOT of time is spent sitting around and WAITING while on set PAs fetch you whatever you want so for you to make the 9 - 5 comparison proves without a shadow of a doubt that you have had ZERO experience in this business.
In addition to the above-mentioned fact, I was a talent agent for 6 1/2 years after the acting crap ran its course. I know what a 80 - 90 hour work week is. These kids, I dare say, do not.
"…these kids work harder then you ever will in your entire life."??? Man, I don't even know how to respond to something so preposterously idiotic.

I don't watch the show but they all seem talented. They deserve a break. ):

  7. 7

I was actually wondering how they were managing myself. They perform several numbers on each show, which have to be choreographed and rehearsed as well as memorizing their lines. It's a lot of work. I'm sure they're putting in 16-18 hour days and are probably working the weekends as well. I don't know how they do it.

  8. 8

It's evident that these kids are being overworked. Most of them look like zombies when they're in the background of a scene and everyone had developed bags under their eyes. Give them a break FOX!

  9. 9

They will get a break on hiatus

and again, Perez, finger pointing at the female talent.

Stop hating women Perez…it's very unbecoming of you.

Are you people insane? I have an Investment Banker friend on this third marriage. He hasn't made less than 6 figures a month in probably 5 years. He works nonstop from before sunrise to 10 or 11 o'clock. I've gotten emails from him at 2AM. He's addicted to the money and his family life suffers because of it. He doesn't apologize for himself AND HE CERTAINLY DOESN'T WHINE ABOUT THE LONG HOURS!! IT IS A CHOICE!
What is WRONG with you people?!?! Does anyone here even have a clue what economic state this country and most of its inhabitants is in???? This cast is lucky to be EMPLOYED let alone work long hours! Try working 3 jobs with no one to fetch you an Evian like the average American breadwinner.

Re: The Dude! – that "loser" is one of the best characters on the show, imo.

  13. 13

This was on the IMDB Glee board like a month ago….cutting edge gossip, this is.

  14. 14

They need to get over themselves. The average American has to work a year before they earn a vacation. This is probably the first step to the whole cast thinking they are worth millions and millions for their next contract. Here we go…

  15. 15

Re: Duh Truth Hurtz – …so did pretending to be a black racist also run it's course? I certainly hope so.

  16. 16

good grief, mario..can't you read the ratings ?? 'glee' is NOT the most popular show on tv. the number one, two, three, and four spots are still going to 'idol' and the 'dancing stars' … fifth is CSI… and THEN 'glee'.

  17. 17

Asshole. Wonder if he could keep up with 1/16 of what that cast does.

  18. 18

Re: Duh Truth Hurtz – Yes, because working on a soap opera is terribly similar to a musical teen comedy. Idiot. I've worked on set as a PA for about three years now for the show Supernatural. There are only two leads. How many shitty characters are on your soap, good sir? The more characters, the less screen time you have and the more time you get to spend on your ass pretending to be an actor. With two leads, these guys work about 18 hour days 6 days a week.

Now, since Glee is a mostly ensemble cast you'd think time would also be split up evenly but considering the fact that they need to be in the recording studio, in dance rehearsal as well as memorize lines for dialogues scenes, somehow I find that perhaps a bit more work than a soap opera. Maybe, just maybe.

Re: Duh Truth Hurtz – I also am in the Industry. I also agree with Circa023. A soap opera? While commendable, that's not quite the same as what these kids do, is it? We all know soap kids have fewer scenes than the adults. I've seen Divas, I've seen grateful former waiters and waitresses, I've seen them all. I'll admit you have a much more broad CV in the industry than mine, but then again, I'm the one that has to touch up make up after they break down from exhaustion. Might I suggest a PCFetch portable sauna? It's not only good for the skin, but it calms your ass down and helps you empathize.

Re: The Dude! – You're the kind of person who would leave a disabled child on a mountain to be "exposed" aren't you?

if they're working THAT hard i don't get why that black girl is still fat! lol

  22. 22

they need to shut up…this whole cast were pure nobodies before glee so they need to stop bitching……being a serious actor mean sacrifices…and if they cant make sacrifices then they shouldn't be in showbiz

  23. 23

Re: acoustical – I never comment on these things, but I did today for two reasons. One, I love Supernatural, it's been one of my favorite shows since it came out, Jared and Jensen are absolutely amazing (I'm so excited for the finale next week). Two, duh truth hurtz, do you honestly think sitting in an office as an investment banker for the same amount of hours a day as a star on glee equals the same amount of exhaustion? True its a choice to work that much, but dancing and singing take a lot more out of you than just sitting at a desk. I know, I have worked those weeks. Please don't compare the two.

  24. 24

Re: Overtherainbow08 – Yay! So nice to see another SPN fan =) And yes, they both are truly amazing guys and the fact that they can even smile on set and still have a good time doing what they do at 3 in the morning on a rainy early morning in Vancouver is honestly beyond me. The whole cast and crew are amazingly positive people and like a family considering how hard we all work.

  25. Bree says – reply to this

I thought they weren't really "kids" anyways? Oh well, Everyone deserves a break. Yes, they are actors and probably knew what they were getting into, but you can only work a human so much before they get exhausted.

  26. 26

    Re: Circa023

Shut the fuck up. There are plenty of attorney and business people who work 80 hour weeks who do not get paid half as much as these kids.

  27. 27

it does sound like a lot of work, but I know the schedule is similar to a little TV show from the 1980's called "Fame". They not only did musical numbers, but also recorded soundtracks and did tours- that were actual rock concerts, not just "Hot Topic" autograph sessions.

It couldn't happen to a more deserving crowd. Take that, Lea!

  28. 28

Um.. I heard this last year. I'm being serious.

  29. 29

Re: Prudefemme – It did. Fun at first. Started as an ironic expose what actually DOES take place in the world today. A theme the Paul Haggis film CRASH was successful in delivering. Boring now. No one listens. No one changes.

  30. 30

Re: acoustical – We keep sympathizing with these actors "long hours" when the rest of the country would KILL…KILL…for ANY kind of hours and 1/10th of these kids paycheck.
My point with the soap opera was those are typically associated with "long work hours". I've put in 18 hour days for TV, worked 2 months of nights for a film, etc.
I'm am literally stunned at the support this cast is getting. If they do not want to work the hours, they can quit. Why don't they??? This isn't slave labor! They won't be "offed" or "executed" for quitting!

  31. 31

Re: Overtherainbow08 – Partially correct. My friend sits in an office. He also has two assistants that make sure he is in constant motion and I've never known the guy to not be on the phone.
Anyone who thinks these kids are truly "working" during their work hours is unfamiliar with the business. "Hurry up and wait" is not a phrase someone imagined.
I totally agree that they likely work harder than most, but again, QUIT! Professional athletes work physically to the point of vomiting their brains out, BUT DO SO FOR A MASSIVE PAYCHECK AND LIVING THE DREAM. These kids are receiving massive paychecks and living the dream.

  32. 32

Lea is hot, for a Jew. Anyways, Lea is the star? Really? I know they try to make the shows center around her, but Finn, Puck, Sue, they are all more interesting than she is.

  33. 33

I'm sure they do feel lucky to be working and earning a paycheck but my God. Since when did you have to work your ass to death just to be employed? I'm sure this complaint didn't come from an ungrateful place at all. Every one deserves rest. Especially if Fox execs and show producers want the talent to continue to be as great as it is. This is just rumor mongering creating drama where I'll bet there was very little. And, yes!Re: sarahmargeurite – You're right. That "loser" is without a doubt one of their most talented cast members and it would behoove them to showcase his voice a bit more than they do.

  34. 34

Re: Duh Truth Hurtz – I know I'm late, but thanks for the explanation! I can appreciate that. I can learn from that.

  35. 35

those kids are the stars douche

fuck them up and what are you left with??
