Will do or say ANYTHING to sell a book! Next week she will come out as a Lesbian to sell even more books!

  2. 2

    Wow! Thanks Laura =o)
you're a good woman to support us

  3. 3

    Yeah.Fucking.Right.

  4. 4

    riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

  5. 5

i still think it's weird that she and her husband look so much alike, with their eyes all close… that's some V shit right there.

  6. 6

what difference does it make NOW….her stupid husband had 8 years of opportunities to pass her support.

  7. 7

i'd like to have seen her saying that while her husband was compaining for president.. bet she wouldnt have the balls to say it then. so who gives a shit what she says now, just to score some cheap points..

  8. 8

of course you didnt see that coming. conservatives can have their OWN opinions as well!

  9. 9

That's not all that shocking. There are more Republicans that support these issues than you'd think.

I think Laura Bush is very right in that it's a generational thing. The younger generation is much more open-minded about social issues, whether the individual is Democrat or Republican. I vote Republican (for fiscal reasons), but I also strongly support issues such as equal rights and religious tolerance.

  10. 10

Sheesh! Why wasn't SHE president instead!

  11. 11

Ok i say go Laura eventhough it took you this long and a book to come out and say it but you still said it and for a republicans wife to come out and say such things are kind of a big deal. Let's keep pushing these issues until it's no longer an issue!

    12

Obviously she wouldn't publicize he fact that her opinions differed from her husbands as he ran for president, that would have done absolutely no good. She didn't deny those opinions at the time though, and when asked was honest about what she thinks.

  13. DJLJ says – reply to this

    13

AND Larry King was the one to bring up these points about her book, not she.

  14. 14

why would she admit something that controversial if she didnt believe in it? im proud of her, she shows that you cant place labels on people, just because of what you see or think.

  15. 15

Fuck them they're full of shit.

  16. 16

P!nk had her pegged… "I can only imagine what the First Lady has to say"

    This warms my heart

  17. 17

Women have the right to choose & people should marry whoever then want to regardless their gender…. Well… She didn't do squat about it when she could now who cares !

  18. 18

This is awesome, Perez. I don't see why you didn't commend her in this post. It takes a lot to admit something like this. This furthermore proves that NOT all conservatives think the same. I have a lot of conservative friends who are all for gay marriage. They (along with all people) should not be generalized into a stereotype.

  19. 19

And we have the FUCKTARD Palin running the Republicans … ! ? ? Good on Laura for having a mind of her own, and for NOT towing the party line ! You go, girl ! !

  20. 20

Your facelift is way too tight.Your husband is a asshole, your daughter is a shitty correspondent for NBC . Bushes are the antichrist

  21. 21

She was a democrat before she married Bush, she's just Republican by marriage

  22. 22

Why does she open her goddamn mouth NOW when its too late?? Those "views" were needed when her baffoon of a husband was ruining our country.

  23. 23

Actually, she's always been for gay rights and choice. Her parents were super Liberal Dems and she grew up Democrat. It was only after she met Bushy that she became Republican. A progressive Republican. She's a nice lady. Too bad she's married to such a schmuck.

  24. Visa says – reply to this

    24

You're surprised by her honest response? So let me get this straight? According to your response, it sounds like you believe every woman should always 100% agree with her husband's opinnions, and not have an opinnion of her own? Hmmm I like that, I think I'll go home and tell my wife that, I'll probably be sleeping on the couch a few nights, but at least I won't have to hear her snore.

  25. 25

    fuck yeah baby

  26. 26

Good for her. I think in most cases, women are more compassionate and understanding and support the rights of people no matter what party they belong to. She was spporting her husband by not speaking out against his views. Thats what partnerships are about. Had she said anything against her husband, he would have spent half his time in office fending off questions about his wifes views. She was not president so she chose not to speak and cause arguments. I can tell she is a good and decent person. Believe me when I say I was against W 100% of the time, but deep down, i think he hated doing most of the stuff he did in office. He just did what he was told in order to stay in office and make his buds happy.

  27. buck says – reply to this

    27

Liberals continue to make me laugh

  28. 28

I think that she's great, too bad she wasn't president- instead we got stuck with that idiot husband of her's.

  29. 29

Shouldn't surprise anyone - the woman was a librarian - famous for being very pro rights.

Just because she didn't ruin her husband's chance of getting into the white house by stating her own opinions doesn't mean she doesn't have them.

  30. 30

I am a proud card carrying Republican/Conservative. I support Gay Rights and Abortion….Just because you believe in smaller government, fiscal independence, and the right to bear arms, doesn't automatically mean that you are anti-gay/-abortion. Seriously people, life isn't black and white.

  31. 31

Most legit Republicans support both. It's just that as politicians, you have to be very careful of what you say for fear of angering the religious right (a huge chunk of your voting base). This is especially true now when it is very dangerous to be a moderate (Bob Bennett anyone), as groups such as the Club for Growth will take you down for not being ideologically pure. It sucks and is very hypocritical, but it's a reality of politics.

  32. 32

just wish she was this vocal while she was in the white house. way to let the position as first lady go to waste Laura.

  33. 33

I think Laura has always had such a good heart of things even before marrying bush, like putting money into education then taking it out which republicans typically do.

  34. 34

Amazing what you see when you open your Fat closed minded eyes Lard Ass

  35. 35

Now i hope she opens up her checkbook and gives some of that Bush money to support gay marriage and gay equality

  36. 36

    *

I say too little, too late, bitch. Where were ya in the previous years when your shitbag husband was ensconced into the White House and gey people need your voice as the First lady?

    *

That's right. You were too fuckin' cowardly o be real with the Americvan people about what yout thought. Instead, bitch, you towed the far-right party line against your fellow citizens.

    *

Thanks, but no thanks. Your support doesn't mean shit to anyone.

    *

  37. 37

Why do people think she could have done anything about it when her husband was in office?? Just because she has opposing views, doesn't mean she had intentions to sabotage her husbands career…

  38. 38

    yeah right… fame whore!!

  39. 39

its sad. i dont think any president is REALLY against either. but they have to say they are, the represent their constituents. i have NO DOUBT in my mind, that obama would love to have gay marriage. he just could never say it

  40. 40

    Re: tejaschica

Good post! I never cared for her husband but always liked Laura.

  41. 41

    Re: buck

Buck. What do you think of Republicans/Conservatives like Laura Bush and Cindy McCain coming out (so to speak) on these issues?

  42. 42

I'm astonished that so many of you "Bush bashers" haven't criticized Obama? Pretty sure he also hasn't done a thing for gay marriage.

  43. 43

First, I don't care what this lady thinks. Let's talk war crimes baby. Second, for all the idiots posting they vote Republican because they are "fiscally conservative" - take a look at who actually balanced the budget (Clinton) and who ran up the largest deficits EVER (Reagan, Bush Jr.). Republicans lie and their base laps it up. Get real people.

  44. 44

I always said sonny Bush did not use his wife effectively. Too bad they shut her ass down way back in '99. That man couldn't do one thing right.

  45. 45

well if its true its a welcomed surprise!

  46. 46

Guy guys Maybe yall should listen to pinks song "dear mr president" it says alot and its been out for awhile.. so YEAHHH

  47. 47

Re: Missy1982 – Perhaps you are not aware but deciding on gay marriage is not a federal issue. Criticising the President, regardless of who they are, on the subject is basically pointless. However there are plenty of other reason to not be disagree with Bush.
    =
Marriage issues are left to the States to decide. The federal government should not be in the 'marriage business' which is why DOMA will be found to be unconstitutional.

  48. 48

I knew there was a reason why I always liked Laura Bush. You cant put limits on human, civil and social rights. Fucktard Palin wants to create theocratic state, for American Law to follow Bible. Sharia law, US style. Thank you Laura for being classy, aware and realistic.

  49. 49

Re: Visa – Another EPIC FAIL on your part to understand why PH would post something like this. Congrats!

  50. 50

Nice to know that at least someone in that family has a brain…….

  51. 51

she has always been fairly liberal but never too vocal about it

  52. 52

Yeah but why can't she and her stupid husband go away! They had their turn. Now go away gracefully attention hogs. She look like a fucking alien.

  53. 53

well this video definitely changed my mind on her. i thought she was just like George

  54. 54

If any of you dipshit bipartisan bashing morons took a second away from your hating, you would have known that she always has been a supporter. Newsflash people, many conservatives are pro-gay rights and very forward thinking, it's on the financial front where the roads diverge. Unlike the left wing, we don't all blindly follow the leader with no minds of our own (yeah, we're looking at you Obama worshipers). But, I guess that's to be expected from you "liberals", you claim tolerance and love, but hate worse than any "conservative" ever could. Let's try working together for a common good, rather than fighting across the isle.

  55. 55

    Re: b a t k i s s
As someone who works for the federal government (in politics), I find your comment laughable. Of course gay marriage is a states' issue, and I agree that DOMA will most likely be found unconstitutional. However, politicians are asked their opinions on things all the time that are rooted solely in states' rights. (Arizona immigration bill). Perhaps I should have clarified: those that were bashing Bush for not doing enough to help gays should also be criticizing Obama for not putting an end to Don't Ask, Don't Tell, urging Congress to repeal DOMA, or simply stating that enacting equal rights should be a national priority. Numerous Presidents have done this with other state issues (Lincoln and slavery is the most obvious example), and perhaps those who point the finger at Bush should also be focusing some blame on Obama.

  56. 56

A lot of conservatives are for gay marriage and abortion rights. You just want to believe what fits in for your purposes of bashing people.

  57. 57

thank you, laura bush. you are the kind of republican i would LOVE to take to dinner and have a drink with. good for you!

  58. 58

Although I cannot stand her husband, if you did a little research on Laura Bush you would find she has never agreed with most of her husbands politics. Or if you don't want to read about her read American Wife, its a great fictionalization of her life.

  59. 59

her mother in law also discussed her pro-choice stance after her husband's presidency ended

  60. 60

Too bad she wasn't the president. Why is it that always the women of the men who campaign seem to be more clever than them?

  61. 61

Re: Unbelievable! – the government shrunk under Clinton and we had a surplus — the government grew unbelievably under Bush, and generations will be paying for the deficit he created

  62. 62

Re: dayslover – and everyone else here who doesn't let other people dictate viewpoints to them - Thank you! It's refreshing to read all these comments. Diversity of opinions within each party is the only thing keeping the 2-party system from turning into a total sham democracy.

  63. 63

that's because most democrats think of republicans/conservatives as straight-laced people who don't believe in things like gay marriage and pro-choice. which is true in some cases but as you see not in all. and yeah, i agree. why couldn't SHE be president?! ha.

  64. #1 says – reply to this

    64

I would vote for her if she ran for president. She has a better distributed target demographic than Hillary even had.

  65. 65

Re: Missy1982 – Well, the obvious typos are weird but laughable? To each, their own….there's no accounting for one's sense of humor. To have started a rant against Obama on gay rights in this posting would have been off topic and as state before pointless.

  66. 66

i think it's really funny that she's only opening up about her lethal car wreck and true feelings about hot topics such as these after leaving the white house. did she have nothing to say for 8 yrs? gross. f-ing fakers.

  67. 67

Uh, yeah it's kind of in the books that she was a liberal before she met her husband and supported his politics.

  68. 68

She was a very genteel first lady. I liked her. Him? not so much.

  69. 69

Unfortunately shes not elected to anything, or was elected to anything.

  70. 70

Wow. Weird. I'm facing a problem with my sig/of (boo-hoo-hooey!) who is a Republican, because he believes I insulted Ann Coulter. I will get NO points for admiring, respecting and agreeing with Laura Bush, but I sure do appreciate her perspective on how to deal with opposing views in a relationship. Only instead of kow-towing and trying not to piss my bf off, I'm just going to be glad he left, instead. BRING ON THE DANCING BOYS AND GIRLS!!

  71. 71

While I don't agree with her, I think all you libs out there judged her way to quickly and I hope you all feel like assholes now.

  72. 72

    -
ALL THOSE SPEECHES SHE GAVE FOR GAY RIGHTS AND A WOMAN'S RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHILE HER HUSBAND WAS IN OFFICE WHERE AMAZING!!!
    -
    AMAZINGLY NONEXISTENT!
    -
LAURA WAS SILENT AND THEREFORE COMPLICIT WHILE HER HUSBAND AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY USED HER GAY BROTHERS AND SISTERS AS POLITICAL PINATA.
    -
SHE WAS ALSO SILENT WHILE HER HUSBAND AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY TRIED TAKE AWAY AND FOR YEARS WEAKENED WOMAN'S REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS!
    -
THE POWER OF HER CONVICTIONS IS DISGUSTING!
    -
YOU CAN NOT REWRITE HISTORY LAURA! WE ALL KNOW WHY YOU WANT TO BUT YOU CANT!
    -

  73. 73

Why would anyone be surprised with her for these opinions? If anyone had done a little research on the former first lady, you'd all know that she was a hard core democrat before she married George W, but kept her opinions to herself for the sake of her marriage and from pressure from her in-laws. Shes a great woman and shouldn't be put down for her husband's stupid decisions and beliefs.

  74. 74

Well, to be honest with you, Laura Bush was a registered Democrat before she met and married George. So, I can see why she might have these ideals. Too bad she didn't hold on to them when she married Bush, instead she just swayed to his ideals.

  75. 75

    awwright, Laura!!

  76. 76

they're all so fucking liberal when they out of power

  77. 77

oh WHAT a crock of SHIT! her book isn't selling so she's trying to go after the gay and liberal buyers - sorry hon, we see RIGHT THROUGH you and your stupid family

  78. 78

Re: kriskriskris – NOPE, not me…no remorse here. Best to judge someone on their actions and not entire on their words. Show me what she's DONE, what good has she accomplished for reproductive rights or gay civil marriage, then we can discuss her merits. Now that she is simply a private citizen she has no excuse not to walk the walk.

  79. 79

everyone on here needs to stop picking on her.. when you have a significant other running for public office and you need to appease your voter based. you either shut up and not saying anything than potentially helping you significant other land the office regardless of political stance. The point is, she has her own viewpoint people… she's allowed to say whatever and how she feels now that her husband isn't in political office. Look at McCain's wife and daugther with the No On H8te. The wife isn't holding office, its her husband. Listen to her words, she said she didn't want to ruin/start a scandal for her husband. You would do the same for your family. So shut the eff up!

  80. 80

Actually, she was repeatedly, albeit unofficially, quoted as being in favor of both of those issues back when her husband was still the President.

  81. 81

Laura Bush is now a 'private citizen.'
What Republicans say and what they do,
    are two separate things.
    Right, Ms. Paelin?

  82. 82

    That's interesting. Good for her.

  83. 83

she is equal parts pretty, articulate, poised, scary, and robotic.

  84. 84

Wow, if these truly are Barbara's view points, I've gotta say I like her a little more, being as I'm very socially liberal. I understand why she didn't speak out much before while her husband was running for president. It's nice that you can see two people that have different views be able to still make it work in a marriage though. I know, myself, I could never be with someone socially conservative.

  85. 85

Just because she's married to George W bush doesn't mean she holds some of the same ideals he does. I always liked her even though I wasn't a big GWB fan.

  86. Nesa says – reply to this

    86

Bush administration totally screwed up the economy so I don't want to hear another word from the Brushes.
Do they really need money that bad that she need to sell books or is she suffering from media attention withdrawal.

  87. 87

wow im suprised…. i feel bad for assuming she was as judgemental and closed minded as her husband, i mean its 2010 people need to open there eyes if they havent already. i personally think being gay is normal and so do a lot of people, so how come when a famous person says they suport gay rights it becomes news?? the abortion im still a little shaky on, in some cases you should have the choice but in other cases you should carry the baby and use protection next time

  88. MP says – reply to this

    88

This isn't news. It's always been known that her politics differ from her husband's. She just didn't take a political stance while she was First Lady.

  89. 89

    wow i think?

  90. 90

Fine time for the bitch to speak out on these issues. Mum was word when the alcoholic murderer had a platform to actually do something about these injustices.

  91. 91

    Didn't see it coming? Really?
Because she has been vocal about both of those things for several years - this is not big news or a sudden revearsal.

  92. 92

It's public knowledge that Laura Bush has had an abortion so why wouldn't she support abortion rights?

  93. 93

    Re: dayslover

You are not a conservative republican. The term "Conservative" got started with Ronald Regan and the anti-abortion movement in the 1980's. Republicans who support abortion rights usually say they are fiscally conservative or a National Security conservitive or something.

  94. 94

i think it's wonderful of her! it's bad enough she sleeps with the 'village idiot'…sometimes, you just can't fight passion/love :-)

  95. 95

    "alcoholic murderer"

    What a moonbat.

  96. 96

What? Did you really think all conservatives were the same? Do all Chinese like the same type of Chinese dishes? Are all famous actors and actresses as good looking as Brad and Angelina? Are all gay men as asshole-ish and bitch-like like you, Perez? Don't think so! Shows how stupid you really are.

Just because someone is conservative doesn't mean they don't support gay marriage and abortion rights. Try to be more open-minded like the liberal you should be! Yay for Laura Bush! :)

  97. 97

If you would have paid attention, she has always said these things. But if you can't get past the name you can't hear her.
And it's not about speaking out against your husband, it's about timing HELLO HILLARY ANYONE? She's the queen of doormats

  98. 98

OMG!!! I always thought that she is not dumb but her husband is.

  99. 99

Anytime you let someone dishonor you - you are dumb. Respect has to be earned. She taught her daughter well - let someone dishonor you so you can make money later- great message. That being said, I wish she was prez right now!!

  100. 100

Re: Stephanie1968 – Right. She's just trying to sell books now.
