Let Cam And Mitchell On Modern Family Kiss!!

| Filed under: TV NewsGay Gay GayLove LineLGBT

Facebook groups are going to start running the universe!

This one does bring up a pretty serious issue, though.

We think that the ABC comedy Modern Family is HILARIOUS, but has anyone else noticed that gay couple Cam and Mitchell, respectively played by Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, have not once kissed in the show's first season??

Apparently so, because Facebook user Brian Heck HAS started a campaign to implore the show's producers to let the characters be more affectionate - and it's already gotten 5,000 supporters, INCLUDING Ferguson!!

Because of the massive movement, the show's producers wrote this joint statement:

"Cameron and Mitchell are a loving, grounded, committed and demonstrably affectionate couple and have been from the beginning of the series. It happens that we have an episode in the works that addresses Mitchell's slight discomfort with public displays of affection. It will air in the fall and until then, as Phil Dunphy would say, everyone please chillax."

Hmm. Fair enough, but what about all of the scenes between the two when they're alone??

Heck is not convinced, either, and responded:

"I would agree that Cameron and Mitchell are a 'loving, grounded, committed' couple. Have they been 'demonstrably affectionate'? I feel that's up for debate … I think that exploring Mitchell's issue with PDA is a wonderful idea for an episode, and I hope that it is handled tactfully and hysterically. It is also my fervent hope that he can get past his issues and we can see these two act as more of a 'demonstrably affectionate' couple in the future. While I appreciate the producers' humor in asking everyone to 'chillax,' I hope that I'm incorrect in reading it as a request to STFU. I started this Facebook page because the lack of kissing was starting to become glaring. It didn't sit well with me, and I thought that others would agree (so far, over 5,000 do!). I did not start this out of anger, and I am not up in arms or even upset with what is one of my favorite shows on television. I just wanted to show the producers that the fans are taking notice, and that we do want more affection, within what is appropriate for the characters."

What a well spoken gent! We 100% agree!

It's very odd that such a progressive and smart show would avoid something as seemingly insignificant as a gay kiss!!

What do U think?? Was there a reasonable explanation for the kissing snub?? Will the power of Facebook once again strike its mighty hand down to incite change??

are they ugly? i dont wanna see them kiss if they're ugly…

  2. 2

No thank you. Keep the gayness behind closed doors

  3. 3

As much as I love MF, I think some people just have too much time on their hands.

  4. 4

i personally don't care if they kiss or not, love the show either way. do have a few thoughts though.

    1. how often have claire and phil kissed on the show? or gloria and jay? is there a glaring difference between those couples and cam and mitch? i don't think so.

    2. consider the storyline of late…mitch is going through major career upheaval, they are new parents to a young baby, they are navigating the waters of a relatively new arrangement of one parent at home/one parent at work…i think they would likely be fairly stressed and tired at the end of the day, and not much affection is to be had at this point.

    3. just because their characters are gay, does not mean that the producers must have them kiss onscreen, just to show that they can. honestly, we should all be used to seeing tv homosexual couples in all sorts of normal life situations that it seems rather silly to implore the producers to go somewhere that the storyline does not yet support. be patient. this ground has already been broken. let it happen when it does, and it will. there is no conspiracy at work here to have them NOT kiss or otherwise show affection.

just my meaningless opinion, attack away.

I think the producer's comment was very appropriate, he was nice to even acknowledge this! Honestly the guy kind of makes himself seem like an ass, it's a comedy show buddy, and not to mention I always got that vibe from Mitchell's character that he's not a very physically affectionate person, so why would the writers have him do something that's so out of character just to make this guy happy?
I've always loved Mitchell and Cam as a couple on the show because I've felt they're not the stereotypical gay characters you see so often on TV. The characters may not have kissed on screen, but you can tell they love each other which you would think is more important than watching them kiss.
I don't know, personally I feel like this guy's making a big deal out of nothing, the first season isn't even over, if after ten seasons or whatever they haven't kissed you can go complain. In the meantime perhaps he should be spending all this time and energy on something much more important in the gay community, making gay marriage legal!

  6. 6

Wow…really? It's a sitcom with a married gay couple and now gays are complaining they aren't gay enough? WTF.

  7. 7

I think this group brings up a very valid point. If ABC Family can show a gay kiss, it's mother network should not be afraid of it, either. Modern Family is a show about testing the borders of "acceptable" societal behavior. It's almost hypocritical for the show to subtly evade gay affection like this.

  8. 8

I've been waiting for them to kiss but so far…nada. Although I think the old guy and the latina haven't kissed either.

  9. 9

ABC can at least write in a segment where they receive a package delivered by UPS, one of those 'Fucking Machine' thing-a-majig's' … and they run upstairs to try it out … and all you hear is banter back and forth behind closed doors, of course, about how it's sooooo much fun … overlapped by the electrical pneumatic noises of the contraption …. or something like that.
    A kiss ?!?
    FUCK OFF !!!
    How fucking Disneyland !!!

  10. 10

Maybe it's the actors and not the show itself. Ethel and Fred never kissed on I love Lucy b/c they didn't like it each other . . . Maybe there is more behind the scenes drama that hasn't been talked about.

  11. 11

I think the reason why the show has been such a successful mainstream show is because they have kept the sexual aspect of the gay couple pretty much under wraps, which makes it easier on the many conservatives that love the show. If they show the couple kiss, the ratings will fall. I am not saying that it is right, but, this is just how things are.
This is the first show that shows a gay couple that has received wide-range acceptance accross the board (Will and Grace did well, but not as well as this). Why jump to ruin something that has been going so well? Why not give the audience time to grow? A Cam and Mitch kiss too soon might end up being the "kiss of death" for a show that had the potential to be on the air for many years and in the process change millions of hearts- at the right time.

  12. 12

Well, one of the actors is straight. Maybe he's not totally comfortable doing that.

  13. 13

Look … they've never even held hands on the show, never embraced, nothing. So, to force ABC to show them exchanging saliva is asking a bit much.
Gay people are only supposed to be seen in comedies as asides, acting typically queer, and that's it.
Oh, be topical by showing a gay couple with no apparent sex drive adopting a non-American baby.
    How progressive !!
Americans don't even like seeing breast-feeding moms on TV, so why force people to watch asexual gay men sticking their tongues in each others mouths, what's the point in doing that, eh ?!?

  14. 14

Novelty gay kisses are getting old. Why not put all this energy into legalizing gay marriage instead. I see a lot of people getting worked up because they think American rights should be granted to illegal immigrant Mexicans. And we can't even deliver equal rights here for gays and lesbians because politicians don't want to be associated with "those kind" of people. www.terryaley.com

  15. 15

I love Cam and Mitchell. Personally, I think that if the characters are ok kissing, they should be able to.

  16. 16

I saw the fat one on Ellen and he said he was straight. He certainly plays his part on the TV show convincingly, though.

i had noticed, but i said nothing because always say that i see hair in the egg, but the scene at the airport just reaffirmed what i thought, then has homo affective intolerance in the series.

ps: sorry my english i'm a foreigner.

  18. 18

The other straight couples don't kiss on the show either. It's not a big deal, this guy is just blowing things out of proportion.

  19. 19

I've ALWAYS found this fascinating. Shows that applaud themselves for open mindedness refuse to show us anything too affectionate between gay characters. Refuse! They won't even come close. Brokeback mountain is a good example. It's safe to say that an audience watching gay cowboys knows what they are getting into. People can handle it as long as it's part of the storytelling. That said, I don't think Cameron and Mitchell are good examples. They are a bickering couple like the rest of us. I'm all for the kissing if that's what they want but I don't see the necessity on a comedy show. I don't even see why the straight couples do the kissy thing. This isn't Gossip Girl… it's a comedy. We laugh at how down to earth it's supposed to be. Long story short… I don't think we should be outraged by the lack of kissing on a comedy show. I would be more wary of those intense commentary activist movies that won't even "go there."

  20. 20

I don't need to see 2 dudes kissing. That's disgusting. Keep your gay shit to yourselves. Guh-ross…

  21. 21

    Oh, please. Enough already. No.

  22. 22

If this was a lesbian couple, the two would have already kissed on air. Nuff' said…

  23. 23

Both characters are nelly queens who would never cohabitate let alone share an intimate kiss in real life.

  24. 24

Heck sounds like a frustrated stalker……..

  25. 25

brian heck sounds like a stalker….

  26. 26

then you'll have gays with no lives complaining that gay men kissing shouldn't be used for comedy…o hells bells sugar!!!

  27. 27

Next Brian Heck will want to direct and produce the show too….create your own show to mess with Brian…..

  28. 28

Ha, I love that show. Eric Stonestreet is actually straight, so it would be interesting if they did kiss on the show.

  29. 29

I'd like to point out that Jay and Gloria have not kissed this season either….there was just one quick peck they shared on Phil's birthday.

  30. 30

The big guy's straight and the red headed guy is gay. So why would a straight guy want to kiss another guy, ugh…He's even stated that it's hard for him to get chicks because women think he's really gay. This would just put it over the edge for him. So I don't really blame him.

  31. 31

Re: theNumberOfTheBeast – Your proably fucking satan up this ass you fucken idiot… go kill yourself

  32. 32

Not sexy enough? Not hot enough? Please, bitch. You have cable, right? Go watch your gay porn, issue settled.

  33. LCFB says – reply to this

i don't want to see them kiss. they are ugly.

  34. 34

What do I think? As a gay male, I think there are far more important things to worry about than wondering if two gay characters on TV kiss or not.

  35. 35

serious what's the big deal if they do or dont. its a sitcom, not greys anatomy. even in friends the making out wasnt the star of the show. if cam and mitch have a reason to full on kiss then so be it. but dont force a "passionate" over the top kiss just for the sake of having a gay couple kiss to make a statement. look at the other couples on the show, they dont smooch very often at all! slow down people and stop looking for a social cause when there doesnt need to be. im just thankful they paint them a happy couple who are comfortble to be who they are and make fun of stupid steryotypes and even acknowledge the few that are true. the show isnt about they GAY couple its about a family that HAS a gay couple in it.

  36. 36

You think this is a "pretty serious issue"? You need to get back in touch with reality.

  37. 37

Nobody cares what you want Mario

  38. 38

"seemingly insignificant as a gay kiss"??
Well it's not that insignificant still, judging by the fact that you, Perez, feel the need to post a video of every single gay kiss that takes place on American television.
I'm all for equal rights but you can't say something is insignificant when you are part of the segment of society who is making a bigger deal about it than it should be.

  39. 39

gloria and al bundy don't kiss either though…. which kind of hurts the argument

  40. 40

Re: Ausboy102 – WTF is up you’re ass. I made a polite comment. I was not rude in anyway towards gays. You can kiss my ass… no wait, your gay so you would like that. Fuck You… nows thats impolite. Can you see the difference?

  41. 41

um…i thought the show was about this family being filmed all the time for whatever reason. if mitchell has a problem with PDA, then that would translate throughout the whole show because they are always being filmed.

  42. 42

i don't care if they kiss, the show is funny, but i don't want to see a fatboy and a ginge kissing thanx!!

  43. 43

how convienient that they happened to write the character as not wanting to express affection in public. Funny though how he doesn't mind pushing a baby carriege down the street with his partner, nor how he also won't express any affection in private either.

  44. 44

chillax !! haaha i love this show no matter what they do or say!! this is by far the best thing that has come on to television in a while.. no matter what I'm 100% behind whatever they do with this show. Modern Family #1 show on tv

  45. 45

Because Modern Family is on ABC, a Disney affiliate.
Disney should step into the 21st century and create more realistic characters.

  46. 46

Wow! People just love to whine about anything and everything. Do people have so few real problems in their life that they go looking for crap to complain about?

  47. 47

Helloooo.. its is a great show.. its too bad that people have to watch shows and constantly have crap to say - I know a few gay couples that do not kiss or have to make out in public.. come on.. its a comedy - not Brokeback Mountain!
