Lynne Spears and Jill Zarin of the Real Housewives of New York have become fast friends and during their most recent visit they discussed the possibility of Jamie Lynn going away to school. An insider reveals:
"Jamie Lynn is looking at colleges. Jamie Lynn wants to go to college and Lynn needed some guidance. Jill and Lynn are friends and they end up talking a lot about what their daughters are up to.
"Lynn knows that Jill helped Ally and she has very little experience in this area. Jill knows all about the applications and follow-up and Lynn needed an idea of what to expect with Jamie Lynn doing it."
That's really great and all, but who is going to be taking care of Jamie Lynn's CHILD Maddie while she heads off to university?! The insider continues:
"Jamie Lynn is ready to continue her education. It was difficult being a young mom, but she's doing it and she's ready for a new challenge. College would be great for her - she's very smart. Lynn is so supportive of all of her kids, and she would love to see Jamie Lynn earn a college degree."
Seems like going away to school wouldn't really be the best thing for her daughter… maybe she should stick closer to home and continue her education?

I don't think we should discourage a young mom from continuing her education. If she has the resources to go to school (no matter where the school is) and can still take care of her child, then of course she should do it.
jill likes to help out someone younger and an underdog as Ramona & Beth says so this doesnt surprise me. Jill is a media whore so thats why she did this also.
Her child would ultimately benefit whether she stays or goes away.
Tulane, University of New Orleans, LSU and Southern University are all about an hour away from Kentwood. She'll be fine. Good Luck to her.
There are plenty of young moms and families struggling to go to school and raise there family and the make it work aka daycare, student loans etc. Not only does Jamie not have to worry about this but is also attempting higher education and setting a good example for her child as opposed to trying to get into the same scene she was before….and yet YOU still have something to say.
I actually think she'll be okay. I don't condone teen pregnancy at all, but, I think she's (I highly doubt her mother) done a good job of raising her baby outside of the paparazzi's view instead of pimping it out. Sure, she may not have been responsible when having sex, but I think she'll be competent enough at college.

Why wouldn't it be good for her daughter? Jamie Lynn has plenty of money. She can go away to college and take her child with her. This is no different than working while having a child. My mother worked AND went to school (lived in an off campus apartment) while raising me. It was the best thing she ever did for our family.

Of course she can go to college. Think of a positive, new headline: loving mum with young child graduates - family helps.
Its not such a big deal to stay on campus x days a week and then stay home on the weekends or whenever. Lots of mom's put their kids in daycare or have family help while they go to school. I know my daughter loves daycare because she gets to play with other kids her age and gets out of the house. Its beneficial for the mother and child for the mother to go to school in more ways then one.

See this is the problem, teenage mothers SHOULD go to college. My mom did and she went to law school and is now a lawyer. Just because she made a mistake and had a child doesn't mean she cannot pursue an education. Just as many mothers have jobs, her job will be earning an education. Her boyfriend or mother can help out with baby-sitting during class time and then she can go to college.
She ventures to Hammond, LA all the time so I don't see why she doesn't enroll at SELU.

I was a young mom and wen't back to college after having my first sun, and I wen't from being a young single mom with a lousy economy to a single mom with a great job with a very good salery. Now I am married, had me some more kids, a nice house in a very good area, and an interesting job. Infact, I have everything I ever wished for and I am happy.

If not, there are probably local universities, on-line university affiliates, medical education such as nursing, a number of different imaging techs, respiratory therapists. Do you have any idea how many single parents are in college every day? It's a struggle but they do it. I think Jamie Lynn is setting a great example for her kid. If you have money you still can have education. The point of having a major is not working and making money, it's about learning and being useful. Jamie's baby will be fine, she has enough resources to put her on a very fancy, exclusive daycare or find a good, professional nanny. I think it is wonderful that she wants to go to university. There are lots of mothers in university and there is this wonderful thing called daycare, most campuses even have one for parents who are also students.
Um…lots of universities have daycare for the children of students. There are lots of reasons why anyone would want to attend college. All of them are commendable. By reaching for educational goals, Jamie Lynn will be able to provide a better life for her family and she'll also set a good example to her kids. Lots of parents go to school and raise their kids as well. It's not easy, but then most things that require effort aren't. So don't tell me mothers can't go to school, get a degree, and raise a family. EAT IT P!

Seriously? Many colleges and universities have family housing and support for single parents. May have on site daycare as well. Not sure that Spears would need any of these things, but if she wants the experience and to further her education I think it could be good for her AND her child.

Having a child at whatever age is difficult; especially when children like Jaime thought of babies as cute little play dolls then reality hits them in the face. It's always "cool" to say you're a mom at that age; makes them think their grown-up, but the rarely actually do.
