"The mission of Starfish is to save the lives of Chinese orphans with special health needs. Our vision is to provide a safe and loving home in Shaanxi province where orphans with special needs will receive nurturing care during their infancy and toddler years. Starfish will provide the best medical attention available in mainland China to meet the special needs of babies facing complex medical problems such as spina bifida, heart conditions, and cleft lips and palettes.

Striving toward this vision, we will focus on the following values:

* To expedite the movement of children out of orphanges and into the arms of loving adoptive families
* To serve as a resource center for other orphanges seeking medical care for their children
* To build a mutually supportive relationship with China's government officials
* To facilitate correct and rapid processing of required adoption dossiers"

I visited the Starfish foster home a couple of years ago. While there, I got to hold and feed a tiny baby with spina bifida who was waiting to get big enough to have his surgery. It is a truly awesome place which is doing lifesaving work for so many children with severe conditions.

Uh.. no. How about we let the Commies help themselves and focus on our own country. China is no dire straights.. We borrow about $3B a day from them.

they wouldn't have all these problems spina bifida, heart conditions, and cleft lips and palettes if they stop putting all these illegal chemicals in thier god damn products!

I volunteered at Starfish about 2 years ago and it is such an amazing place! Many Chinese parents are only able to have one child and if that child has any type of birth defect they are often abandoned. The work that Amanda does in finding these children, getting them the surgeries they need, and working with the government to find them homes is absolutely amazing! I am so thankful that there are people like her in this world!

I spent a summer living at the foster home and helped take care of the babies. Amanda, the person who started the foster home, really is an amazing person with the biggest heart. She spends every part of her day helping these babies (and somehow manages to fit in time to make the volunteers feel right a home!)The kids get all of the attention they need medically right away and are showered with love and care from the nannies there. It truly was the most heartwarming and life changing experince I have ever had.

Re: skidmarke – How about we help out as many people as we ourselves can, whether that be in our own country or somewhere else?

Helped out here a few years ago - an amazing cause, run by selfless people. How can anyone on here make negative comments about any charity, let alone one that saves unwanted sick babies? Please support this charity if you can!
