Another Tragedy For John Travolta
As he continues to deal with the death of his son Jett, John Travolta has been hit with another personal tragedy.
His two dogs were killed in a freak accident at Bangor International Airport in Maine last week.
A statement released by airport director Rebecca Hupp read:
"At approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2010, an airplane carrying members of the John Travolta family landed at BIA. While there, two small dogs were taken for a walk by someone who is not a family member. An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the plane and did not see the dogs. Unfortunately, the dogs were struck and killed. The airport is investigating the accident. Out of respect for the family's privacy, the city will make no further comment."

Never, ever leave your pets in the cargo when traveling, either leave the at home with someone, or get pets small enough that you can carry them on the plane with you. I've been thinking about getting a big dog, but I travel a lot, and I decided to wait until I have a way to leave it at home with someone. For now, it's just my little ones.
That's so sad, I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to my dogs. This poor family really seem to be cursed.
poor pooches indeed HOWEVER…dogs getting hit by a car is NOT a "freak accident"…it's just a plain ol' regular accident. Dogs get hit by cars - it's an unfortunate fact of life. If the dogs had been sucked into the jet engine - well now, THAT would have been a freak accident. Stop being so melodramatic, Mario. Fuckin' drama queen.
Wow—that is so sad. I love animals, especially dogs. They are such devoted, loyal companions. I am truly sorry for their loss!

That sucks. I feel bad for this family. It's hard to lose a family member, let alone a pet or two.

Unbelievable, a lot needs to change as far as dogs and airline safety goes. Some how there needs to be regulations put in place that protects animals.

Dogs become members of your family, and you love them. I don't have children, so my dog is my baby and if I lost him, it would be heartbreaking. I lost a dog when I was younger when he was hit by a car and it was one of the saddest days of my life. GROW A HEART BEFORE COMMENTING.

why does it matter if it was a family member? and I'm confused, how do the dogs BOTH get hit and the walker does not? Was he/she at the end of a 50-foot leash? or? did the dogs dash into the path of the truck? Or maybe it was no accident. Makes no sense, really. I know Jada and Will will send over canine replacements (remember when their dog died?). we have a few dogs left in the world. Poor Ella, her brother died, her dogs died, no one can pronounce or spell her middle name, and oh…her father is….eeek John Travolta!
What happened to the dog walker? Was he or she holding the leashing when the dogs got hit? You wonder why this person was walking them in such a dangerous place? Where they running around on the tarmac unleashed? I can understand walking dogs on the tarmac, but NOT taking precausions was just stupid and obviously deadly! I feel so bad for the Travolta's. They have suffered enough loss lately!

This is so sad! Im not a travolta fan but I feel incredibly sorry for his loss, my dogs are like family members and I know I would be devistated
Hopefully he rescue's some dogs and doesn't go the route of his rich bitch friend oprah, and get designer dogs from a breeder.

Because they were likely on retractable leashes which can go as far as 24 feet. They're on leashes yes, but longe ones.

The dogs were *not* on leashes, they were running loose with a dog walker.
The Travoltas had just landed their own plane and the service truck was headed to service it. If the dogs were on leashes they would no doubt still be alive.
Some people are pointing out that they WERE on leashes– what difference does it make?? To me, that makes the person who was walking them even more at fault!! Are you really not paying enough attention to get two little dogs out of harm's way from an oncoming truck? Jeez, sad indeed.

Man, this poor poor family. I feel awful for them losing their beloved son and now their family pets. You want to believe in karma coming around to bad people, but how can you when things like this happen to those that are good? Just sad.
