Oh No! Bret Michaels Back In The Hospital!

He just can't catch a break!

Bret Michaels is back in the hospital after tests show that he has a hole in his heart or a patent foramen ovale!

He was readmitted to the hospital after experience numbness on the left side of his body and when tests were being run, the doctors found the PFO. Dr. Zambramski, Bret's neurosurgeon says:

"There is no doubt that the positive Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) is devastating news to Bret and his family. The good news is that it is operable and treatable and we think we may have diagnosed the problem that caused the Transient Ischemic Attach (TIA) or warning stroke; however we feel it is highly unlikely this is connected to the brain hemorrhage he suffered just a few weeks earlier. Once again it is great that he quickly reacted to the severe numbness and got to the hospital immediately.

"I realize Bret wants to make a full recovery so that he can be active with his family, attempt to attend the finale of Celebrity Apprentice and especially get back on the road to continue making music. Without a doubt he is very determined to get healthy and make a 100% recovery. Medically speaking it is a fantastic attitude both mentally and physically for him to have.

"However, Bret's brain and body are not quite 100% yet, especially with the hole found in his heart. Further tests will be conducted throughout the week and I will have more information next week as to how this Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) will be treated. For now, Bret will be treated with outpatient care which includes a daily injection of Lovenox (a blood thinner to reduce the chance of blood clots) and blood tests."

Get well soon, Bret — you're in our thoughts!

And take it easy and listen to your doctors!

So unfortunate :( I don't even like the guy and I feel bad. Hope he gets better. I can't imagine the stress his family is going threw.

  2. 2

Truly heartbreaking. I love Bret. Thoughts and well wishes go out to him

  3. 3

Blood thinners this close to a brain bleed? Scary stuff!

    Cocaine is one helluva drug!!

  5. 5

He was pushing it. Maybe it's time to rest and get completely well.

  6. 6

Poor guy! Prayers go out to him. He seems like such a nice guy and its horrible that all of this is happening to him!

  7. 7

Holy cow. He really has some problems. If he had a TIA, then he probably had a bigger stroke waiting to happen. Lovenox is big guns and it is injected into the abdomen and it's not fun at all. At least abdominal injections aren't new to Brett, but it still sucks. You're born with a PFO though. One of my children had the condition but thankfully it closed as he grew. I can't believe no one ever discovered he had one. Maybe his brain bleed ended up saving his life before he threw a clot. Wow. Scary.

I told him to take it easy. Too much too soon! Get well Bret this from a person who is a diabetic and lives a very full life. I wish you the best! Just take your time.

  9. 9

I really hope he realizes his body is telling him he's not ready to go back on the road… He needs to take care of himself so he will be there for his daughter for YEARS to come…

  10. 10

Oh no! It's one thing after another with this guy!!!! We are praying for you Bret! Hopefully you will be out and about in no time!

  11. 11

I am NO doctor but his docs seem to be in denial about anything being connected. The hole in the heart doesn't have anything to do with his previous brain hemorrhage and so on….

  12. 12

    Ugh, poor guy.

  13. 13

I hope he gets well soon…
Maybe now he will concentrate on his health and recovery, rather than doing photo shoot from his hospital bed to sell to magazines, and pitching reality show ideas to networks.

Bret: just REST. No amount a money is worth compromising your health. Put the bandana down, and concentrate on your recovery. I'm sure you fans will understand….

  14. 14

    Get well soon, poor guy!

As sad as I am to hear about this latest setback, I can't help but feel that might be better off in the long run. Glad as I was to see him make a quick recovery, I felt it was way to soon to start taking on a full schedule of touring and returning to The Apprentice. I know people who have gone through what he has and one single month of recovery is pushing it a bit. Hopefully, he'll cancel his tour. I'm sure his true fans would be willing to wait!

Praying he gets better….sending positive vibes ur way…..take this as a sign to relax and heal no stress…

  18. 18

But he totally gets to milk the situation for another 6 months.

  19. 19

He's lived a hell of a life already, so I hope for the sake of his children, that he calms down. He doesn't need to be playing the big shows anymore or screwing around with a ton of chicks.

  20. 20

mario has a hole where his heart should be or a patent arsholeus infinitis

  21. 21

    Get better soon Brett!

  22. 22

This man has more lives than a cat!!! He better slow down, rest and get well before "that cat" hits number 9…. You're 47 Bret not 27…do not die for the sake of the "rock on"!

  23. 23

Holy fuck, he is having too many serious, simultaneous, UNRELATED, health issues! What next? Cancer? Some sick fuck needs to pull the needles from their Bret voodoo doll! I feel so bad for him because he looked so happy on Oprah, like he has a new lease on life. Now this other shit pops up! He must be wondering how long he can cheat the Reaper at this point! Don't go, Bret. Hang in there!

  24. 24

Ok–guy was in the ICU and hopefully was having his heart monitored with echos / etc and they miss this? Can a PFO possibly cause an embolis? He needs the blood thinners if he possibly had a TIA. Risks outweigh the benefits. Pretty sure someone who is a Hollywierd star wasn't sent home with a chance of another aneurysm rupture. So, he threw a clot from the PFO and is now on thinners to help prevent. Makes sense. Hope he gets better. Not sure why he does Rock of Love if he has a live in GF and kids but not my business. Don't get either why noone did a heart echo EVER in his life and found the PFO but hey….. Prayers to you, Bret, and get better!

Holy crap!!! Poor guy, I wish him all the best for a full recovery!!!

  26. 26

sounds like a great idea to give someone Lovenox right after a brain hemorrhage!

  27. 27

I had a PFO, and I was operated on to have it closed (I'm 19…this happened when I was 17). Unfortunately, it runs in my family, and we found out my mom had it when she suffered a migraine that mimicked a stroke. This guy needs to get fixed up. St. Francis on Long Island is the best cardio hospital I have ever heard of. They need to fix him up right.

  28. 28

    Re: Dublin1970

An echocardiogram won't show a PFO. For people 18 and under, you do a sonogram. For people over the age of 18, you do a test with the nickname of a T.E.E. which is where they put you under anesthesia and do a bubble test if they see a hole. If the bubbles comes out of the other side of the heart, the hole is big enough to operate on.

I hear a fat lady singing….."Piss on the fire and call in the dogs…."

  30. 30

He is too awesome for such crap to be happening to him. Thankfully after he gets through yet another obstacle, he'll be even more stellar.

  31. 31

Poor Brett. I had the same exact thing happen to me in November of 2008. The TIA was scary but they did find the hole in my heart and closed it with an occluder…Everything worked out great…Feel better soon Brett!

  32. 32

Good luck, Bret. My thoughts are with you and your family.

  33. 33

Oh. poor Bret…just when I thought he was getting better! How can someone sustain so many health issues in such a short period of time??! I love ya, Bret, and I wish only the best for you, but please take it easy for awhile. You're doing fine…you don't have to be performing next week! My thoughts and best wishes go out to him and his beautiful family!

  34. 34

First a brain hemorrhage and now a "hole in his heart".. come on people… this is screaming photo optttttttttttttttttttttt.. BULL SHIT.

  35. 35

    Re: symphonicdork

First off, I'm glad you're ok! Second, I'm sorry about your mother. I hope she's doing alright.
You're right about the TEE (trans esophageal echo). An echo is basically the same as a sono. Echo (sono) cardiogram (of the heart–cardio following or prefixing anything means "heart." )

  36. 36

Haha Bret you idiot! He is so greedy that he is trying to cash in on his previous illness that he ended up getting another. What a fool!

  37. 37

:( Bret get better soon!!!!! when it gets bad, it's on a roll, I hope you beat all this :D i can't wait for apprentice :D

  38. 38

    Re: gimlet123 – agreed!

  39. 39

Re: Human Sushi Platter – I agree… I had a seizure Nov. 18,2009. I was taken to ER and after CT and MRI I was told I had a large brain tumor. I had 9 hour brain surgery and the tumor was benign and they removed the entire thing. My surgent said that if I didnt have the seizure I wouldnt have lived more then 6 months. Going through a life threatning situation is very hard emotionaly and I pray for him and his family during this very hard time. p.s. Im doing great and I have no side effects from the surgery. Life is very good :)

Re: Failkips – WoW!! How dare you judge someone that has brain/heart conditions. I went through it 5 months ago and it disgusted me to read what you wrote about him. Your a piece of shit loser!!!
