Stolen!

The Paris Museum of Modern Art has been subjected to what "appears to be on of the biggest" art heists ever as a lone thief made off with 5 paintings potentially worth hundreds of millions of Euros!

He made off with major works by Matisse and Picasso when the museum's security system was disabled. There were three guards on overnight duty, but they claim they didn't see anything. The thief was spotted on a security camera.

Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe says to the thieves:

"You cannot do anything with these paintings. All countries in the world are aware, and no collector is stupid enough to buy a painting that, one, he can't show to other collectors, and two, risks sending him to prison.

"In general, you find these paintings, these five paintings are un-sellable, so thieves, sirs, you are imbeciles, now return them."

Good point!

Hopefully they get returned safe and sound!

  2. 2

Who is doing your spell checks lately? Your blog is falling apart …

  3. 3

my thoughts exactly! who the fuck is going to buy these? and why steal art in the first place though i don't know if i would be calling the theives imbecilles right away they could do some damage to those arts and destroy them and that would be the real tragedy!

  4. 4

maybe they dont wann sell them. just a bored art collector.

  5. 5

can you say an inside job lol

  6. 6

    commissioned crime

  7. 7

yeah the thiefs are stupid what can they do with the stolen paintings?? NOTHING if they thought they could earn millions they are idiots then

  8. 8

The Mayor is obviously the true imbecile. People who go through the planning and danger of stealing this type of art already have a buyer who commissioned them to be stolen. And they do so because they put them into their own private collections that are not intended to be shown, but just to "have". It'll be a miracle if they are ever seen again until some rich nut dies, and they are found in his/her basement like usually happens.

    Ummm…you're late?

    Re: Unbelievable! – LOL! You're a genius!

  16. 16

Maybe that's who took Lindsay's PASSPORT

  17. 17

HMMM…….Let's see. Lindsay is/was in France. Maybe thats why she couldn't make it back for court. We are all well aware of MS STICKEY FINGERS problems in the past, ie, jewels from a shoot, mink coat, watch. LOL

  18. 18

Heh, somebody's been watching too many heist movies methinks. Mayor's response is hilarious to this one.

Agree with others, commissioned theft….drug lord, or private collector who does not want to sell or show, just own.

  20. 20

Somebody needs to check the where abouts of one Lindsay Lohan….hmm

  21. 21

3 words - rich private collector

  22. 22

If I had to guess I would say that this was a hired job for a specific person who gets turned on by looking at millions of dollars worth of stolen art on his wall. Nobody would risk this much prison time unless they had a buyer.

  23. 23

look…don't be naive. when works of art of this magnitude are stolen it is very rare that they are stolen by chance with the intent to find a buyer after the fact. It is much more likely that the theft was orchestrated by an individual who intends to keep the art works hidden in a private collection. They do not wish to own the pieces to share them with others. they wish to possess the pieces for themselves…either for personal gratification, so they alone can gaze upon them, or in some sort of warped hero complex because those works ( specifically or as symbols for their artist in general) represent a strand of art they find to be unwholesome or distasteful in some manner and in need of eradication. there is a great deal of psychology involved in fervrent art collecting and quite frankly… if you combine mental instability with a fundamental passion for the arts you get some pretty freaky results.

  24. 24

maybe it was anne hathaway's ex?

  25. 25

The thief will never return them and they were ruined when being cut out of their frames. Unreal!

  26. 26

They better not be damaged! Bring them back!

  27. 27

Re: Lilygirl27 – I must agree!! No One would steal these without already having a Buyer!!! The underground Art world is awful messy from what I gather and theyre is definatly a Market for them. Just just thieves buying from thieves……
