Movie Theaters Raise Prices AGAIN!

This is getting to be too much!

Several theaters are planning on charging $20 for for adult tickets to IMAX showings of "Shrek Forever After" in 3-D.

The change in prices haven't officially been announced, however, the new prices were already posted on the movie ticket site Fandango.com.

This comes just eight weeks after theater operators raised prices as much as 26%, which was the steepest hike in the past decade.

The question is whether or not people will be willing to pay these high prices.

BTIG LLC media analyst Richard Greenfield states:

"With the state of the economy remaining questionable, we worry pricing is simply moving up too quickly. The danger is scaring consumers away from the movie theaters."

Sure, slap a 3-D logo on it and raise your prices! This is just another ploy that movie studios are doing to make mediocre films and take all your money!

What do U think? Would you pay $20 to see Shrek 4???

I have not been to a regular priced movie in years. I go on bargain times. With Netflix and other sources I dont see the point in getting reamed. If hollywood actually put out some decent movies instead of remakes and Shrek #4's I might see something. But this is getting to be insanity. Can't they make new movies with new plots that arent all the same?

$20?!? This is just getting ridiculous! Its JUST a movie in 3D. NO movie is worth $20 in 3D per person. The concession is expensive enough…$10 for popcorn…now this too?!? Thank god for pirating JK LoL

JUST DONT GO PEOPLE!!!! PLEASE DONT!

    4. 104

I would pay $20 to see it alone but if I were taking a bunch of friends and they all left their money in their other pants…yeah $20 a person would add up pretty fast. At least Avatar 3D was what, 2 and a half hours? Shrek is probably only like 90 minutes.

    5. 105

I wouldn't pay 20bucks for Harry Potter and I am a POTTER HEAD.

      How ridiculous!!

Pirating DVD's is going to go through the roof now. Hollywood can suck it!

      no way.. that's crazy!!

I just saw this today with my kids…we had two adult passes (that we had to sweettalk them into taking, saying they didn't allow gift certificates to be used for new movies coming out…WTF kind of logic is that???) so it came to $21 total for two kids. The 3D was pretty cool and I thought the movie was much better than Shrek the Third. But I would not have paid $20 per adult to see it!

Agree with shoewhore. They went main stream in NY a little too much expensive movie going yourselves and kids $125.00 before popcorn. Greed it used to be at destination places with short educational films that were very cool. With those prices they are going to have to offer yearly family rates, like universal, six flags, zoos etc. No way can a family put into their budget that amount of money. I wish Hollywood would get over themselves I've not seen a move anytime lately that I think a star should make 10-15-20 mill. for get over yourselves because everyone already is . Look at hollywood history as well as wall street when did they think looking at them ment such a cost to us . Unlike the old days we see them in mags and computers all the time , like sarah jesica shes been on tv soooo much it would actually bore me to see her in the movie too much not much interest anymore. 3D fun definetly fun but day to day kids get over it and its gone. Go to Mc Donalds already spent $40.00 on Shrek there glasses etc….

      Re: dsedey213 – I agree with that 100%!!!

I saw it last night for $11 (not 3-D). But it was really good! And I won't pay reg. 3-D movie prices, so I def. wouldn't pay $20, its not that serious.

    12. 112

And most people going to see Shrek 4 are families, so my family of 4 would cost $80 ??? HAHA no I think not.

    13. 113

Greedy, greedy, greedy. Just will stop some people from going to the movies all together. They will be out on dvd soon enough. None of them is worth $20.00 to see.

    14. 114

i stopped going to theaters a long time ago. i just refuse to pay these prices. just wait for the dvd release and netflix. fuck these theater owners. let 'em go out of business.

I stopped going to theatres years ago when the price hikes first began. Imagine if you all had done the same - prices would've been lowered to meet consumer demand. North Americans have lost their voices and just continue to be fucked over when it comes to price hikes. They just take it, and complain amongst themselves. Come on people, stand up for your rights! Stop letting consumerism take over, stop getting fucked on everything you buy! Geesh - get a back bone! You all probably have 52" HD TV's - just wait until it comes out on video! I have a regular, curved screen, 27" tv - and I still prefer to rent/download movies and watch on that then pay out the nose to go to the theatre. I'm hoping someday you'll all join me in saying "NO" to consumerism. NO to big companies raping your wallet of your hard earned dollars. NO to your whiny children when they bug you for money to go to the movies. JUST SAY NO!!!! You'd be amazed at the power of your voice - expecially when it is joined by millions of others who support you.
