Lost Series Finale Only Brings In So-So Ratings!

We guess some people just gave up on it!

The heart-wrenching, infuriating, and epic series finale of Lost aired last night and despite its elaborate, worldwide television takeover, preliminary ratings are revealing that it only averaged a 9.0 rating!

This isn't terrible - in fact, it's apparently up 67% from last year's finale - but given the amount of press and excitement surrounding its end we're a little shocked that the turn-out was only average!

What do U think?? Were U satisfied with the ending of Lost or were issues just left too unanswered??

It would have been great if we learned more about the island itself, but other than that I thought it was really great. I couldn't stop crying!

    Farewell, Lost!

  2. 2

I don't watch Lost, but I can imagine some people didn't want to waste 5 hours of their night watching the big ending for the show. I mean, I know I wouldn't.

  3. 3

It was as good as I thought it would be. Kind of in the middle with it.

That was total bullshit and totally predictable. So wait - in purgatory you can have a spinal injury, a son, win the lotto pay off cops, get arrested, murder people - oh wait until you remember your real life…yeah right…I wasted 5 years watching this to find out nothing - no mystery answered just some happy oprah spiritual horse shit? Eff Bad Robot Shows - I am never going to watch another one again - I am dropping fringe screw any star trek sequel or that monster movie…screw them

  5. 5

i got up at 5am to watch it (in uk) wish id stayed in bed, it was a load of shite

  6. 6

It was always a scam…..They made it up as they went…

  7. 7

I watched the 2-hour special before the last episode and wanted to watch the final, but 'Celebrity Apprentice was on and it was live, and I can just catch the final of 'lost another time…

  8. 8

Completely satisfied. If all the mystery had been taken out; it wouldn't have been lost.
    Best show ever!

  9. 9

I watched parts of if and I have to say they ended it well. I was wondering throughout the whole show if they were all ____SPOILER____dead or not and I was right just because I think the dream thing would have gotten a lot of hatred like it did for Dallas. But otherwise very cool.

  10. 10

That's the average. Stop posting false numbers fat ass. The actual finale averaged 13 million.

  11. 11

the ending completely fit the show. it gave enough answers to not leave me with too many questions, but the mystery still remained. they didn't say too much about the island because the island was a mystery in itself and I wouldn't have wanted to know exactly what it was all about. i think the ending stayed true to the meaning of the show.

  12. 12

Maybe because the show fucking sucked anyway!

  13. 13

well, they had it on a different night, maybe some forgot

  14. 14

Perez and a lot of his readers don't like Lost because the shirtless guys weren't underage.

  15. 15

The ending was bullshit. It had nothing at all to do with the show. It was just pure bullshit.

  16. 16

I gave up on the series this season. I loved the show and watched since day one. When they started all of this sideways nonsense they lost me. I even started to watch with the narration hoping I could stay focused on what they were trying to say. I did tape the finale however and I hope that I can keep up with what I believe to be a ridiculous story line. Sorry fans!

  17. 17

Most people on Perez are Shitney Spears fans–not exactly Lost fans.

Anyway, the ending was satisfying. I am glad the island remained a mystery. It paves the way for (spinoffs and movies: hint). Anyway, the characters did not die in the plane crash.

The events that took place on the island really took place. Those who died there (Juliet, Shannon, Boones, etc) really died there and those who left (Kate, Sawyer, Miles, Richard, etc) survived, but died later in life at different stages of their lives.

The sideways was a pre-afterlife meeting place (purgatory) for the characters to re-connect before leaving for the afterlife.

But yes, the events of the island really did happen.

The show ended like it began with Jack opening/closing his eyes in the bamboo forest.

    Sad and teary eyed.

  18. 18

were the numbers amazing? not really. but for a show whos weekly aveage veiwership has been a steady 10 million for the past 3 years, to get another 3 million to watch the finale, thats whats impressive

  19. 19

Re: Orator – Great Summary. I forgot that the show started with Jack opening his eyes.

  20. 20

I was completely satisfied! Having been an avid watcher, of course I had my doubts around the writers strike (having a SUPER short season) and how they would get back into everything. I've always watched, despite the boring and not so great episodes and I have to say this was EPIC! It ended how all love stories SHOULD end, with everyone dieing. Everyone dies, everyone remembers, everyone loves. Epic, beautiful, i'm done watching TV now.

  21. 21

First time watching it. I was a bit disappointed, but I still thought it was good even though there seemed to be a bajillion F-ing commercials.
I rewatched it today online, and it blew my mind. It was SUCH a heartwrenching goodbye to this show. I loved it.

  22. 22

Correction, Perez. It averaged 13 million. Research before you post. Comment 17, Orator, summed it up best for those of you who are (pardon the pun) lost. It's JJ Abrams own interpretation of what happens when you die and on Jimmy Kimmel last night, Matthew Fox said he knew from the very first episode, his character would die. JJ Abrams also said there will be no movie of Lost. It is what it is and was made for TV. (Time will tell…) So many Losties out there - he might reconsider…

  23. 23

I thought it was so good. The island isn't really a mystery I don't know why people are bitching. The island is AN ISLAND that just happens to hold the source of life (and death) there. WHAT is so hard to understand about that?

  24. 24

The End was emotional. If you are a true Lost fan, then you know that the show has always been about the characters and the journey while the mythology is secondary. Lost was the best cerebral tv series I've seen in my lifetime.

  25. 25

I will miss the show but was satisfied that in their "sideways" lives they figured sh*t out, and got to live as they should. As Jacob said they were brought to the island because nothing was working out for them in their lives.
I knew going in that some things would satisfy me, some things would be a surprise, and some things wouls leave me thinking. And that's what it did!

I've watche since the beginning and I thought it was a terrific and fitting end. I cried and laughed. I loved it.

  27. 27

Interesting - Ben chose to remain outside the church/stayed on the island with Hurley - although later on - Hurley (Hugo) is seen in the church w/ Libby. Loved that.

  28. 28

I waited and watched it online I can't stand commercials.. I loved the end but to many questions were left unanswered.. disappointing in so many ways.

  29. 29

    9.0 rating/??
how high does that scale go??
that sounds pretty decent to me

  30. 30

I loved it ..very emotional..I loved how juliet and Sawyer finally met again..god the tears…I loved it. Ben was not ready to move on yet..maybe he wanted to enjoy his 'life' with his daughter…his second chance. The role of the Widmores is still vague..but who cares. I hope one day I will have my afterlife like that. But ' live together..die alone.'.that has always been how it would end..and Desmonds 'see you in another life brotha'…was how it was. Loved how Vincent laid at his side when he finally died…I am getting myself a dog ;-)

  31. 31

This Isn't Like Seinfeld. Where you watched 2 or 3 seasons and just jump to the finale. I was 14 episodes behind last month. As soon as i heard it ended this sunday, i started watching on Hulu. It would be stupid to miss a large chunk of the story and skip to the end. I heard some ppl say they stopped watching in Season 3 and jumped on the finale. They complained that they were confused. No Sh1t, stupid!

  32. 32

people who didnt like the ending just didnt understand it. If you fully understood the ending, you would have thought it was amazing and perfect. Which it was. I cried so much. ALOHA LOST :(

  33. 33

as a true devoted fan for the last 6 years, I am very happy with the end…
Sawayer/Juliet was perfect and I always KNEW Hugo would be the one

  34. 34

I loved the ending, as many people did, it's a matter of choice. People waste time in many different ways….we're wasting precious time on blogs sugh as this, it's a waste perhaps, but here we both are!

  36. 36

    Re: crazie – hahahahahaha

  37. 37

Lost won it's slot for the entire evening. It's not like the Superbowl where anyone can watch. Considering that it picked up 2 million more than the regular watchers of the show says a lot.

  38. 38

I loved it! I love how it ended! How they created that world together so they could transend to the next life together! I loved the acting! I loved how they left what the island is up to interpertation! because thats not the point of the show! the whole point of the show is u have all these individuals that are flawed, lonely, and lost and how they actually needed each other to be Found! Thank u lost for 6 great seasons U changed the face of tv! and for the people that hated the ending obviously u didnt get the whole point of the show!

  39. 39

I LOVE Lost and I thought it was a fitting finale! Sure, people are going to nit-pick and complain that every little mystery was not addressed - but in the end, not all of them really matter. RIP Lost. You kept me entertained for 6 good years!

  40. 40

the only questions it answered were ones that they came up with in the last season. we all watched it for SIX years waiting to find out what the island was and we never do. i'm sure the writers don't even know. the whole first five seasons were about the island and then they come up with this flash sideways bullshit and only end up explaining the flash sideways. BULL SHIT. so disappointed.

  41. 41

They are rebroadcasting the whole LOST finale this Saturday night on ABC.

  42. 42

that's be cause it's shite and everyone knew that the first series

  43. 43

Re: perezita1239 – Did you watch the last season? The Light with the magic powers that can create life and has the potential to turn someone into a smoke monster. The Light was what made the island special. Didn't see any of that? They didn't explain a lot of things. But anyone who payed attention got the jist of it.

  44. 44

Oh Perez, please…THIS is directly quoted from the NY Times: "Fans of “Lost” clearly came together — much like its cast of players — for one last dive into the pool of sci-fi and spirituality on Sunday night, lifting ABC to its best non-Oscars Sunday night in two and a half years and posting what are likely to be the best finale numbers for any scripted show this television season." End of subject.

  45. 45

Re: Orator – Well said and spot-on on ALL accounts! The finale was great and a very fitting end for an amazing show. The average visitor to this site (notice I didn't say ALL visitors to this site) are not interested in this genre of entertainment and therefore do not "get it." However, I was very satisfied with LOST's final goodbye and will miss it.

  46. 46

  47. 47

it was great, lost will be the best tv series for a long time, and definitively the best of our era

  48. 48

What does a 9.0 rating mean in terms of actual viewers?

  49. 49

    Re: Orator

Thanks, Orator, you summed it up well.

I'm glad to hear many LOST fans on this blog enjoyed the finale. Honestly, those who are true fans appreciated the beauty of what happened. Everyone else, I don't know why you're complaining, this is not Star Trek or Star Wars or whatever Sci-Fi show you want it to be. Yes, there were Sci-Fi elements involved, but ultimately it was story about characters (as any good story always is) and their journeys.. It was amazingly well written and I don't believe there will be better show out there..

I love lost and woke up at 5am to watch it from the U.K which was defo worth it. i thought the way it ended showing jack closing his eyes which was the oposite of how it started with him opening his eyes was really good. Im going to miss the show :(

  51. 51

Orator: I thought you summed it up beautifully. Though there are still some questions but they dont pertain to the Island but the sideways…
