American Idol's Minor Drama! Bandleader Furious About Finale Snub!

Wow! That's a serious burn!

Although Simon Cowell has been receiving quite a bit of press regarding his exit from American Idol, he's not the only member of the team to say good-bye!

We've reported that Rickey Minor, the show's bandleader for six seasons, is departing the competition to take over the band on The Tonight Show, and we're hearing that he was majorly PISSED OFF that he wasn't even acknowledged during last night's season finale!

Sources claim that after the crowning of Mr. Lee DeWyze as the next American Idol, Minor unleashed on the show's producers and refused to go the after party until Randy Jackson took it upon himself to try and patch things up!

Minor then begrudgingly showed up, said a few words, but "you could cut the bitterness with a knife."

Understandable! The show wouldn't go on without him and they couldn't even say a few words on air regarding his departure?!

That's not how you should treat your employees! Especially after six years!

So unfortunate! We hope the Idol producers are ashamed of themselves!

Come on, this was a bit of minor fluff news this morning!

  2. 2

    WHO?

  3. 3

shortly after the winner was announced, they flashed to him and he definitely made some sort of annoyed facial expression. It caught my attention and i wondered why the grouch face. i wish i had tivo to watch it again.

  4. 4

maybe the producers are on team coco!!!

leno sucks, the guy sucks to go to leno.

  5. 5

So what, any bandleader could do his job. The arrangements have sucked this year. He isn't an on air personality and Ryan has given him shout-outs tons of times.

  6. 6

Who cares? He is a nobody that is why he was not mentioned. He act as though he started AI, he is a hired hand, he was being recognized for his effort when he recieved his paycheck. If they recognized him, then why not recognize everyone else that works there. Very childish if you ask me. If I worked at the Leno show I certainly would not hire him with such a bad attitude.

  7. 7

That is kind of messed up. But Ryan Seacrest just sent out a little tweet for him…haha! (damage control)

  8. 8

"the show wouldn't go on without him"? uh, obviously it would and is. he's probably leaving on bad terms and since the producers can do what they want, they chose not to acknowledge him. although, they'll probably come out with some lame apology now that the media has gotten a hold of the stink.

i've never even heard of this low life. well well seems like the jay leno show is the right destination for a bitter looser…

Re: Spindoc – couldn't agree with you more…after all, even Paula never got a fair well montage either (even though she left after the season had aired)

  11. 11

wahhhhhh wahhhh wahhhhhh….baby. No one know him and he gets paid to d a job not get accolades.

  12. 12

The show can go on without him, what do you think they did for the first three seasons?! They used a pre-recorded track, which was better than him and his band now that I think of it, his predecessor was an electronic device for Christ's sake. Idol's lucky to be rid of him.

  13. 13

he has done nothing but sabotage the various singers on idol for the past 6 years, in my book. Many past Idol contestants have said so. Good to see him go.

  14. 14

    that's show biz …
he was just the band director ….
just that huge musician ego getting in the way!

  15. 15

I hope he doesn't turn out to be like Brandon Marsalis on Leno. He's the black guy they had before Kevin and he started getting a chip on his shoulder right from the start like he was too good to work for Leno and he didn't appear to have any sense of humor and would glare at Leno. This hiring of Rickie Minor could be a crap shoot.

  16. 16

CMON NOW… RICKY MINOR SHOULD STFU!! IF IT WERE NOT FOR WHITNEY HOUSTON APPOINTING HIM AS MUSICAL DIRECTOR IN HER BAND BACK IN THE BODYGUARD TOUR HE BE NOTHING. WHAT A DOUCHE BAG!!!!! LOT OF PEEPS COME AND GO ON MANY SHOWS. THEY JUST DONT TAKE A SPAZ JUST CUZ THEIR NAME WASN'T MENTIONED. WTF!!!! RICKY WHO??? IS RIGHT…

  17. 17

I would rather hear an instrumental track of the original song played during performances than that horrendous band. Most of the time they overpower the singers. The backup singers sucked this year too.

  18. 18

I'm sure they are glad to be done with him… that AI band A-SUCKS! No, really, they stink… good riddance and I'm glad he's going to Leno- he sucks, too- deserves no better.

There was a crew that took to the stage at the very end of Janet's performace when the screen came down to cover her dancers. Among them was a woman with some dramatic hair, but affter the commercial they were gone. Who were they and what was the next performance which followed Janet?

Meh, he's had one of those background thankless jobs that pays well. I look at him and don't know who he is. If they had introduced him regularly aka Paul Shaffer or Kevin Eubanks, I could see it, but without that history, watchers would say huh? and merely applaud politely. He's going? I didn't even know he was there. Unless I missed it.

  21. 21

He left them, he quit for a better job. I would not say goodbye to him.

  22. 22

give credit where credit is due. Even though he wasn't in the spot light he was an important part of the show.

  23. 23

All you people who don't even know who he is must not be Idol watchers or something because Ryan ALWAYS threw shout outs to "Rickey Minor and the band" at the beginning and end of every performance show. I'm sure he wasn't expecting a big extravaganza in his honor, but the least they could have done was had Ryan acknowledge his leaving and thank him for his years of service to the show. I'd be pissed and annoyed, too.

  24. 24

Maybe Idol producers & Fox network are ticked off @ him because he's 'deserting " them & going to Leno over on NBC.

  25. 25

jeez get over it. musicians, writers and anybody else behind the scenes never get recognition. that's just the way it is.
