We're so excited that No Doubt finally began recording another album. And Gwen has so kindly sent her fans an update on the recording process.

She writes:

Hey Guys…thinking a lot about you! We are baking up one of the most delicious records…your ears will hardly be able to take it…it will be so pleasurable!

It's been so fun being together everyday. We started writing at Tony's studio in his house. We just moved to a real studio in the Valley and it makes it all feel like it's finally happening. We're recording the first batch of songs that we wrote now and after this we're gonna go right back in and write some more.

Wouldn't have gotten to this point without all of you coming out to see us on the Summer Tour. You are so inspiring! Gonna tweet you pictures and keep you updated. We need your vibes! Check out some more news down below…

Love,
Gwen & My Boys (the No Doubt ones)

Can't wait to hear it!

it's too bad these bands that made up the 90s can't just walk away. There is really no demand for another no doubt album, rock steady did poorly, gwen moved on to electronic/pop, you guys are over, just like hole, the pumpkins, and weezer.

  16. 16

Good to hear! They did a great version of "It's My Life" xD

    Re: donkey boner
Rock Steady won them two Grammys and really made Gwen a crossover pop/rock icon for the new generation. Without Rock Steady, there probably would be no "What You Waiting For", "Sweet Escape" or "Hollaback Girl".

The difference between No Doubt and, say, Hole/Weezer/Smashing Pumpkins is that they do have that crossover appeal I mentioned. Tragic Kingdom was one of the highest selling albums of the 90s (certified diamond!) and Gwen just as a solo dance/pop artist has also shipped in the region of 10 million albums.

I lump them in closer with Black Eyed Peas in terms of mass appeal. They're still just as relevant today as they were in the 90s, and unlike other 90s bands who constantly retread the same water, they actually have creative options. If they want to make a pop record with big singles, they can do that. If they want to go back to their Anaheim roots and make a record primarily for their fan-base, they can quite easily do that too.

    Amen Davin, amen…

  22. 22

yawn……. oh god no…! not again,
must be running out of spending money for the kids !

  23. 23

i hope they go back to stuff that is more like their original sound and stay away from the crap hip-hop wannabe crap they did for their last album.

  24. 24

Re: donkey boner – weezer is far from over. their fan base is incredibly loyal and as long as weezer keeps putting out albums and touring, their fans will keep buying the albums and going to the shows. and rivers has never had any real desire to be some grammy award winning, platinum selling band, so don't assume that they are unsuccessful now just because they don't sell tons of records.

  25. 25

Re: Davin – i just want to point out that weezer is still fairly successful now for the exact opposite reasons that gwen has managed to stay successful. a lot of times when bands and/or singers do the whole crossover thing, they will lose the original fan base. weezer has never really attempted that and the one real time they did attempt that, rivers really regretted it. i don't really understand why people seem to think weezer is not successful. as i said in another comment, weezer's fan base is incredibly loyal.
