Yes!!!!

Thank you, Madonna!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! A victory worth celebrating!

In what could only be described as a true testament to Madonna's greatness, the Malawi goverment has agreed to release a gay couple who was arrested on the charge of being gay!

The Material Girl, upon hearing the disgusting news, began a crusade against the ruling and became very vocal about the injustice of putting two men away in prison for 14 years because they were brave enough to be who they are. She called upon her fans to do the same, which was enough to get the president of Malawi to concede.

On Saturday, Steven Monjenza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga were released from prison on "humanitarian" grounds. Once they were free, Madonna posted this message to her blog:

"I have always believed love conquers all—yesterday I got to see it in action. In the last week over 30,000 of you added your name to mine calling for the release of Steven Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalangal—the Malawi couple sentenced to 14 years hard labor for the "crime" of homosexuality. With incredible joy, I am writing to share with you that Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika has ordered their release."

Beautiful! See the joy that can come from a united front against inequality!

While Steven and Tiwonge still have a long journey ahead of them, perhaps now they see how special they truly are!

We are so filled with pride! The 30,000 of you that helped should be too!

Although I don't agree with gay marriage at all, I don't think they should have been imprisoned for it. Only God will judge, in the end.

She added lots of new friends with this noble act!

She wasn't responsible for their release, but she certainly made a contribution to this fantastic outcome for Steven and Tiwonge. When I first heard about them, I truly hoped Vadge would do or say something, having just returned from Malawi. At the risk of pissing of their President, she spoke up anyway. May have taken a while, but dealing with a Third World country, she'd have to pick her timing. Nice one Vadge. Then again, doesn't she practically now own Malawi?

      ALL HAIL QUEEN MADGE!!!!!!!!!!

    7. 107

She looks great. Im not marrying until 50!

Ah, a celebrity using their power for good instead of evil…. refreshing! Yay Madonna! I hope the rest of the story is as positive - will these folks be able to integrate back into their communities?

Oh, fuck off!! This is so insulting to everyone who worked and spoke out and petitioned and fought for their release LONG before MaDONEa showed up at the last second to jump on the bandwagon! What about Amnesty International? What about the U.N.? What about all the politicians around the world working on this since the story first broke? What about all the everyday civilians (myself included) who signed these petitions WEEKS ago and spread the word? Hell, even BOY GEORGE deserves more credit than Madonna does on this issue! He has been tweeting and e-mailing and gathering signatures for WEEKS now and even sent your darling MaDUMBa a personal message asking her why she hadn't gotten involved yet! What do you know, the next day she releases a statement and all of a sudden cares. It's all of the people I listed that you should be thanking and congratulating you lying piece of shit! What kind of arrogant, unhinged freak makes up his own news?! Quit trying to dupe your gullible tweenage readers into believing these lies and half-truths about the news, especially when it's about things that actually matter! Shame on you!

Re: amricanboy – HAHAHAHAHA! WOW, just WOW. This dumb fuck thinks that the UNITED fucking NATIONS didn't know about the fucking nation of Malawi until MADONNA educated them?! Jesus Christ there are some dumb shits in this world. Oh my God, I'm scared for the future generations. They really think pop stars run the world. God help us.

Whew! I have normally disagreed with your posts in the past, but I must say this time: Thank You!

Ignorance is bliss for you people, I am sure, but for educated people its frustrating.

It was not Madonna's interference that caused the two gentlemen to be released. It was pressure from the UN, to whom all African countries are indebted to, that persuaded the president to release them.

Undeniably, Madonna's little campaign did cause publicity, but it was not at all a victory. For every man that was released, in this case only two, there are a hundred more homosexuals being arrested and abused. These two men themselves will not consider it a victory when they get home and their communities ostracize them. If you want to make a real difference, you have to do more than sign a piece of paper and stick a famous person's face on it.

So go ahead thinking African leaders give a damn about some puny American actress and the sheep that signed her petition. I realise that to American's celebrities are gods, but the rest of us dont think so.

When you have paid in blood and sweat for every homosexual in Africa to be free from the daily abuse and injustice they suffer, THEN it will be a victory, you narrow minded clowns.

      Re: amricanboy
Saying Madonna put Malawi on the map is like saying Bob Geldof put Ethiopia on the map. Please don't speak for all the dumb fucks in the world who couldn't pass a basic 7th grade geography course.
