Can James Cameron Save The Day?

They do know he's a Hollywood director and not a scientist, right?

James Cameron was among a group of scientists and other experts who met today with officials from the Environmental Protection Agency to discuss ideas on how to stop the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico.

Due to the success of Titanic and Avatar, Cameron is considered an expert on underwater filming and remote vehicle technologies.

We think he might have some valuable input, but unless they want to film footage of the spill we think they should probably stick to the experts!

What do U think?

he thinks hes God… bitch please

  2. 2

At least he is trying to help.

  3. 3

The experts aren't doing such a great job–Sounds like they're getting desperate. Why wasn't a a failsafe plan put in place before this happened?

  4. 4

Seems like Robert Ballard would be a better choice. He's the guy who ACTUALLY filmed the first underwater images of the REAL Titanic. James Cameron is an expert at filming things underwater in controlled environments (like of the shore of Rosarito, Mexico and giant tanks of water).

The effect this disaster will have on an already fragile, polluted environment is quite catastrophic that will take generations to remedy. I don't think people can grasp the urgency of the situation. Think Exxon Valdez, times ten…and growing.

Smart. He's bringing media attention and press to a major world issue…and you guys are bashing him for it? Isn't this what you credit Brangelina for doing? Good for him for bringing attention to this screw-up. There needs to be bigger fines on this type of thing so people don't let it continue for days and days. Orr…..END OIL DEPENDENCY.

  7. 7

Ehh Whatever…I thought they stopped trying to stop it and are waiting for those damn relief wells.

This country is heading into the depths of hell. How dumb do these politcians think we are that we 1) think Cameron did his own filming or 2) that this is just a feel good attempt to make us look away.

This administration should just admit they screwed up and dont know what to do.

  9. 9

    Re: slite
The administration didn't cause the oil leak, stupid.

  10. 10

thats almost as silly as american idol looking to replace simon with you

  11. 11

well if the "experts" havent come up with anything so far what damage could he make? besides he has imagination and sometimes some scientists do not have that.

  12. 12

Research your story before you form an opinion. James Cameron and his collaborators spent money and explored different technologies to dive and search for the sunken Titanic. He invested heavily in a manned deep sea vessel so he could explore the Titanic in close-up. The manned vessel has robotic arms which is very maneuverable and could has closed circuit HD cameras for remote operation as well. Therefore, he is more than qualified to offer help on the Gulf Oil Spill. His vehicle is probably one of the best of its kind in deep sea expedition.

You should all do your homework! The titanic is 12600 feet down, Cameron used a sumbersible to get there which is owned by a foreign entity. This is his expertise. The oil leak is 5000 feet down. The US doesnt OWN a submersible and will NOT accept the help of other countries who have offered to lend us one.

This invalidated any help Cameron could possibly give to this situation.

We should all be asking why 17 countries have offered help to us (including submersibles that can have humans in there at that depth) and our government has said. "No thanks".

Re: pgal – can't add anthing to this. well said. well one addition: these enzymes only work on certain types of crude oil and not on all as far as I know and also just disperses it. Let's hope that Craig Venter can engineer some genetically modified bacteria to fight the oil - but that bacteria will probably kill marine life and then we're surrounded by liquid death.

  15. 15

at this point ANYTHING would help.

  16. 16

Yes! I do consider him an expert on underwater filming, and he does have knowledge of remote vehicle technologies.
He is an environmentalist and could assist with ideas on how to stop and clean the massive oil spill. Because of his invaluable assistance, I would like to see a movie about this disaster.

  17. 17

    ****************************
This was an intelligent way to get the event covered- if they had stuck to inviting only scientists, the event definitely wouldn't have been mentioned on a gossip site.

  18. 18

Well the so called experts don't know what the HELL to do to stop the disastrous mess. It just might take someone with at totally different view too save the day. GOD knows BP is only making things worst. Greedy Mofo's…

  19. 19

Well did you guys know he is getting sued regarding avatar by a vancouver guy…it was all in the paper here in Vancouver BC. Their lawyers are talking.

  20. 20

Sarah Palin…how is that "DRILL BABY DRILL THING GOING FOR YA"? You betocha…..Haven't heard shit from her dumb ass. WHY???? Her husband works for BP…..GO figure.

  21. 21

i agree perez. they should probably stick to the experts. not a director.

  22. 22

What are you an expert of?

  23. 23

Nobody saw "Ghosts Of the Abyss"? He kinda is an expert at these types of things.

  24. 24

Re: Trinty – Watyto spin this. I can't stand Palin, but how is this her fault when Obama is at the watch. You need to shut the fuck up or do better research. Todd Palin no longer works for BP. For the record, Palin did talk negatively about BP.

  25. 25

    lmao, we're fucked.

  26. 26

James rocks! He graduated from university with a degree in Physics! He's one smart cookie and if he can help these boneheads who have tried six times with no avail, then let him!

  27. 27

I am so sick of this dude and his whoring around for attention!

  28. 28

wtf is this guy going to do come on Obama oh wait i forgot you want this destruction you Anti-Christ

  29. 29

Experts?!?!?! Seriously?!?!?!?! I think they can use all the help they can get…

  30. 30

WHY NOT - WE ARE ALWAYS ELECTING ACTORS TO RUN STATE AND COUNTRY !!!! THIS PROVES AS A COUNTRY ,WE ARE AS THICK AS DOG SHIT !!!! If we are too stupid to distinguish between someone who makes a movie and an environmental scientist - we deserve everything we get !!!

  31. 31

I am a big fan of James but I did not like Avatar at all!

  32. 32

Well Actually, Perez. Cameron is WELL known as a pioneer , not just an expert, in unmanned and manned submersibles for deep water exploration. this is how he got the idea for Titanic, i think.
    OR
Producing Titanic gave him a life long inspiration for submersibles.

In his titanic documentary he does a lot of neat, and pioneering, for then, stuff.

  33. 33

This is Obama's solution to fix the oil spill? If Obama were as smart as those who voted for him hoped he was, he would let Gov. Jindal handle this. The incompitance of this president gets worse daily. Can't someone impeach him and throw him out of office and let Hillary handle things for a while?

  34. 34

He just wants to write a movie about the leak. He really does not care or he would throw his gazillions of dollars at it.

WHAT I THINK IS I LIVE 200 YARDS FROM THE BAY….25 MILES FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO AND 10 MILES FROM A VAST RIVER! WHAT THE HELLL IS WRONG WITH THIS GOV'T WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE MEDIA/CELEBS/PEOPLE ACROSS THIS NATION! 10 MILLION PEOPLE WILL HAVE TO BE RELOCATED IF THIS CONTINUES OUR AIR WILL BE POISON! WHEN WILL WE STAND UP AND STAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. BP AND THE COAST GUARD ARE NO LONGER COMMUNICATING, THEY CAN'T SEEM TO GET ALONG?????? WHAT THE FUCK. WE CAN SEND MAN TO THE MOON BUT CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO PLUG A MASSIVE LEAK. WHY IS IT THAT OUR GOVT DID NOT REGULATE THESE RIGS? THIS WILL GET BIGGER AND THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE AFFECTED WILL GET HUGE. I AM WATCHING THE LIFE I'VE KNOWN DIE. PLEASE HELP US!

    36

Not. More. Omniscience. It's the undersea people he KNOWS that he worked with on the set of Titanic who might have some suggestions, not Cameron himself.

  37. 37

I think he can add some input, I mean come on he made a movies about the underwater expleration.

  38. 38

toss this asshole in the water so he won't make another shitfest about blue people, please.

  39. 39

okay he's a little arrogant but he has a right to be. For those of you who are informationally challenged James Cameron and his brother own a deep sea diving company - they have designed and built specialty robotic minisubs that were capable of going down to the real Titanic wreck which 2 miles down is deeper than the oil well in the gulf - further James personally went down to the Titanic wreck site. All that said he also did a movie called The Abyss where he worked underwater in scuba gear for months to make the movie. Because he's constantly inventing underwater rigs and gear he's probably better qualified than most of the so called experts all put together. Just sayin.

Re: highboo – Check again. Cameron does a lot of his own camera work. On Abyss he was in the water along with everyone else. Re: the real Titanic - he and his brother (they own a deep sea dive company in Canada) built and used many of their own equipment designs to film a documentary on the real Titanic wreck with James actually going there in a minisub. Today if you have 30K you too can take a tour of the real Titanic wreck 2 miles down.
