Singer Annie Lennox was named a UN AIDS goodwill ambassador today, pledging to address the "daily brutality faced by millions of women and girls" who suffer from the disease.
No stranger to advocacy for AIDS research, her "SING" campaign raises awareness for AIDS-infected women in southern Africa. She says:
“If we are to end the cycle of human devastation triggered by the AIDS epidemic, we must address the rights of women and girls and challenge their second class citizen status, which puts them at greater risk of HIV.”
Good for Annie!
