"The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation is the nonprofit collaboration of patients and families, physicians, advocates, and researchers dedicated to eradicating the life-ending and vicious effects of mesothelioma. We believe in a cure for meso. Given the human toll of suffering the disease causes, the compassion and energy of the meso community, the moral, legal and economic aspects of asbestos, and the benefits of meso research to cancer research generally, we believe that the resources to accomplish this cure are available and must be mobilized. We seek to marshal and utilize these resources responsibly, as effectively as possible and with financial transparency to:

Offer hope and support to patients and families by educating them on the disease, helping them to obtain the most up-to-date information on treatment options and to connect with meso treatment specialists, and providing them assistance, emotional support and community with others;

Fund the highest quality and most promising meso research projects from around the world through rigorous peer-review; and

Raise awareness of meso, and advocate that the public and private sectors partner in the effort to cure it by directing the resources needed to stop this global tragedy."

with all the money taken out of the economy by the asbestos litagation by the lawyers, including the double dipping when it comes to lung scarring do we really need personal donations. why not just tax all the money the blood sucking lawyers have made off of their 30-40 percent of the "pain and suffering" their clients have endured. After all they never had to suffer maybe we should tax it 100 percent. then they could feel suffering too

Or are they lawyers paying for your services too, Perez

Fracture…you make me sick. Have you ever watched somebody die from mesothelioma? I have. I watched my mom basically suffocate to death before my very eyes because of this horrible disease. Her "pain and suffering" was very, very real and she deserved every single penny that she was given from the asbestos companies. They robbed her of the last half of her life and took away her chance to ever know her grandchildren. Those "blood-sucking lawyer"s may get a large portion of the settlement, but without them, mesothelioma victims would be voiceless and they would be given NOTHING. The donations to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation are for research to try to find a cure for this horrific disease. The number of people affected by it are just going to keep going up and up and I pray Fracture, that you never have to watch somebody you love die from it.
I am actually shocked and delighter that Perez posted this here. For once, I actually agree with him. It is an extremely worthwhile cause and thank you Perez for posting this here.

My Grandmother died from pleural mesothelioma, and it was very painful and difficult to watch her go through. There was no treatment for it, and we cannot participate in legal action against anyone since we have no idea where she got it. I guarantee you that i would sue anyone who caused that kind of pain and suffering for even one person. It is horrendous to watch and hear. You can hear the pain and difficulty in breathing. It is disturbing.

I don't think anyone likes lawyers, i have no respect for them after what lowlife scum we have had to deal with multiple times for legal issues…but sometimes they are a necessary evil. I literally have never met a lawyer who is a good person with a conscience….and i have met and worked with loads of them. they are the scum that feeds on pond scum.

Wow - what an honor to have our Foundation mentioned on your site!! On behalf of our Board of Directors, patients and families we serve, I thank you for recognizing our tireless efforts to find better treatment options for mesothelioma patient.
Mesothelioma affects countless families each year and as mentioned here, can leave people feeling immensely devastated and hopeless. Having lost my beloved husband and his mother to meso, I understand these painful emotions far too well.
At some point though, the sorrow and sadness can become crippling. It is important to remember there are still mothers and fathers…innocent children living with this disease who deserve our love and support. We must all come together to fund aggressive research that will one day lead to a Cure!
To learn more about our mission, please visit www.CureMeso.org — we are not a law firm, nor do we make legal referrals. We are one of the few national non-profits dedicated to helping raise awareness of mesothelioma by providing funding to peer-reviewed research, advocacy of federal funding and patient education about the best possible treatments available.
      Thank you again, Perez!!

Re: fracture – I'm a 42 month meso survivor and have been very active in MARF. First THANK YOU Perez for giving us the opportunity to be heard. Meso is an orphan disease which means we're on the bottom of the list for research $$$. Through those private donations, MARF provides seed grant money which essentially is proof on concept for ideas on how to treat and combat this very aggressive cancer. Again through MARF those seed grants have now been able to obtain government funding for bigger research meaning there is hope. Again through MARF we march on Washington every year to BEG for help. And again through MARF I have met a lot of WARRIORS who fight to survive with the hope of a cure.

Re: fracture – So Fracture, help us a bit here and contact your congressional reps and ask them to support HR771 which is just a bill to proclaim a national meso day. And I'll bet you didn't know that the use of asbestos is still not banned in this country. Help us get that done, it's for you too. It sounds like you have no idea about asbestos. Did you know that the latency period is 25-50 years after exposure? And there are 30-40 million homes in this country that have asbestos in them. Read what Lilly said about how this disease is ruthless and makes you suffer till the end. Hopefully you haven't been exposed but your comments could come back and bite you on the "A S S" years from now. Wouldn't it be nice if 25 years from now there was a cure waiting for you………..Think about it.

Thank you so much for posting this. 11days will mark a year since my dad died from mesothelioma. It was a horrific battle against a horrifying disease. MARF was there supporting us through every stage. He was very healthy, quit smoking 15 years ago, active 61 year old. He was given 5-9 months to live, and the disease was in an early stage. He had aggressive, extremely painful and taxing surgery and treatments. Yet he still died 9 months later. Through more funding I pray to see better treatments, support and cure for this disease which I hope Boone ever has to deal with in their family.

My husband suffered with and died from sarcomatoid mesothelioma in 2009. I'd like to thank you for taking your time to recognize MARF.

Thank you perez for posting this!! This has truly made my day!!! I lost my dad to mesothelioma last September after an 11 month battle. There is so little known about this disease! Those who do not truly understand this disease always think it's a hokey disease that's made up and overrated. I say this because before my dad was diagnosed, I was one of those people. I'm ashamed to admit that's how I thought, but since educating myself on this disease, I have tried to educate so many more.

As to the comment by Fracture- you're full of it. You obviously have huge misconceptions about the disease and the whole legal process! You should be ashamed of yourself for your comment. Meso, as with any cancer, is a horrible disease. The donations are to help FIND A CURE!

My family is indebted to MARF for their tremendous love and support through battling the disease. MARF is definitely a worthwhile cause!!

First, thank you Perez for recognizing such a very worthy cause.
Fracture, you need to know that many of those "blood sucking lawyers" are among the biggest supporters of this foundation! Many also offer support to their clients in many ways other than just winning an asbestos exposure suit! My daughter's a 4 years & 3 months survivor of peritoneal mesothelioma. Statistics say she'll have a recurrence of the cancer at some point, so we pray she beats the odds. Still in her 20's with 2 young children her goal is to see those children grown. The foundations goal is to find her, & all meso patients, a cure long before my Grandchildren are adults! The foundation is also active in seeking a ban on asbestos in America. If you can not donte then take a few minutes to let your ligislators know you expect them to ban this deadly substance immediately!
My thanks to Perez again for bringing attention to our cause!

Perez - Thank you so much for spreading awareness about the hideous effects of asbestos exposure.
My husband has mesothelioma. Although he has fought it with two surgeries (each requiring a week long hospital stay), gene therapy, and chemotherapy, his doctors' do not expect him to live long enough to see our daughters graduate high school.
