I Love You, Phillip Morris Release Delayed AGAIN!

| Filed under: Film FlickersJim Carrey

Will this movie ever see the light of day?!

Distributor Consolidated took the US rights of Jim Carrey's film I Love You, Phillip Morris with plans to release it in February, then March, April and July, but now there's a dispute between Consoldiated and French film studio EuropaCorp.

EuropaCorp says that they didn't receive the $3 million advance from Consolidated while Consoldiated argues that EuropaCorp didn't deliver the film on time.

The court seems to be siding with EuropaCorp as it granted its requested for an injunction on the film and the case will head to arbitration.

So now the film won't be out next month as originally planned with a new target release date of October!

We'll see!

not this year…..may be in 2012!

  2. 2

The brand name Phillip Morris is defunct. They changed their name quite awhile ago.

  3. 3

it came out moths ago in the UK it was actually really great! shame yous all have to wait a while ;/

  4. 4

i found a pirated copy of it at a local convienent store. its really not that good. very slow moving movie and not that funny. only ended up watching 40 mon before turning it off.

It's available online. My boyfriend and I watched a DVD quality version just last night. It was funny, sad, and surprisingly, quite graphically gay for a Jim Carrey/Ewan McGregor film. After watching it, I'm not surprised it's not gonna see the light of day in theatres in North America. But seek it out, it's a keeper!

  6. 6

Looks like the powers that be don't want a movie about gays in the theaters.

Saw it already in the UK. It was interesting I will say…

  8. 8

it's too bad americans can't see it, it's too damn hilarious ! Ewan is just too CUTE in this one !

  9. 9

I watched it online as well and I didn't find it graphic to the point of banning it. There are many straight mainstream movies that are by far much more graphic. This is a remarkable story. Steven Jay Russell was quite a creative and tenacious man!

I watched this film on my Virgin Atlantic flight to London last month. It was okay (and quite graphic) but it did seem to drag a bit. However, I would like to watch it again as it was difficult to follow the movie with all the distractions of a flight around me (jet noise, crying babies…)

  11. 11

This is ridiculous. I've been resisting watching it online because I want to encourage the movie industry, why the delay?

  12. 12

I saw this at Sundance 2009 and it was fantastic! It's a really great love story and very funny, my Utah mom even loved it! I sure hope this gets a US release, it'd be a shame to not release it.

Re: FeedMeAStrayCat – No thanks not my type of movie looks dumb. They have the movie up on the movie website I watch, but like I said not my type of movie.

  16. 16

October is probably a better time to release the movie. Fall is a good season for smaller indie type films.

  17. 17

Maybe they just don't want to spend the bucks on promoting it as…so few people are interested. Also Jim Carrey has gone off the VERY deep end into his self-pitying morass of introspection…he would be an embarrassment at any premier.

  18. 18

Re: mfluder – What i meant was that it's harder to sell a movie with graphic gay sex as opposed to a movie with graphic straight sex. Not that it's right, but it's true.

  19. 19

No one wants to see a couple of rump rangers with jizz dried hair.

  20. 20

Seen it! This has already hit the Internet. Its pretty funny with lots of juicy makeout scenes with ewan (carry is gross). There's a surprise ending to for those of us that didn't know the origional story.

Goddamn though, ewan is still so fucking hot

  21. 21

You know the movie REALLY is a DUD when illegal down-loaders complain!

  22. 22

This movie came out in The Netherlands a few months ago and I was positively surprised. It was very funny, and the relationship between ewan and jim was tangible in the theatre. The tensions were amazing. I really hope the States can get off their homophobic-high-horse and release this movie! It's openmindedness would do its viewers good! And let's be honest - people that can't handle a(n) (on-screen) homosexual relationship won't go watch this movie anyway, so why bother restricting it from theatres! Def worth the watch, in my opinion.

  23. 23

I saw this months ago in the movie theater (in Europe) and it was a BLAST!! Hilarious, touching, exciting from start to finish…definitely a must see!

  24. 24

Re: worldlynathalie – I completely agree with you!! Although my bf and I were the only ones in the theater, we had a fantastic time and the romantic scenes were as real if not more than if it had been a male/female relationship.

Whoever greenlit this move needs to have his or her head examined. I've seen it and it's 100% terrible. It's obvious that Jim Carey's ego is craving an Oscar (sorry, but a dying of aids bed scene is too obvious) and I hope he never gets one. He just comes off as too wierd in anything he plays. It works in slapstick comedies, but falls flat everywhere else. Calm down Jim, you'll get your participation oscar in 30 years, but don't hold your breath for it being for a particular role.

  26. 26

that's coz no 1 wants to see this lame ass shite

  27. 27

Are you kidding me? This film was out in Belgium months ago (this really adds up to my dislike of the USA)! Haven't seen it yet though… but it's loading now ;P (yay internet!).

  28. 28

Re: 7tizz – If you hate Jim Carrey so much, esp in his non-comedy roles, then why the hell did you watch the movie?? And Jim doesn't give a crap about Oscars, in fact he said that way back in 1994 or so and that's why the Academy overlooks him every time.

  29. 29

that's so weird, i watched this film in the cinema and britain ages ago :o can't believe it's not out in america yet!

  30. 30

    Just watched it. Love it!

    America's lost.

  31. 31

OMG ! Now we know why Jim left Jenny!! lol

  32. 32

I watched this fabulous film in Hong Kong (very strict censorship still applies here), and I found it to be an outstanding piece of cinema. Yes, Jim Carrey is good, but the star of the show is Ewan McGregor.

Yes, there a sex scenes but how many big Hollywood blockbusters are applauded for graphic heterosexual scenes of a similar nature? The film is essentially about the love between two men, and the demons Carrey faces within his life. I find it very sad that in this day and age that such censorship exists.

  33. 33

are u talking the dvd release or the film release on theather? cuz in my country this film was showned already!

  34. 34

    damn.
WTF is up with this movie, man???
    i'm tired of f*cking waiting!

Re: qbert455 – agreed. and where did you see find it at online?
me and boyfriend wanna see it as well!

  35. 35

I got a chance to see it.it was ok nothing special liked Jim Carrey in it.

  36. 36

There's a lot of dark humor and it's also very dry. I thought it was really good and surprisingly funny. There is a lot of explicit language, but it seems to fit the rest of the movie. To me, it's Jim Carrey at his best. More like Eternal Sunshine than Liar Liar(Thank God!). If you're into movies like "Fargo", you'll probably really like it.

  37. 37

I'm from the UK and saw it about two months ago.
You're not really missing out. In my opinion that is anyway.
