What an honor!

Professor X Patrick Stewart now gets to make everyone call him Sir, even if they don't want to, because he has been officially knighted by Queen Elizabeth II!

He says:

"It was an unlooked-for honor but as I grew up as a child, falling in love with the theatre and Shakespeare, my heroes were Sir Laurence Olivier, Sir John Gielgud, Sir Alec Guinness. The knights of the theater represented to me not only the pinnacle of the profession but the esteem in which the profession was held. And now to find myself, to my astonishment, in that company is the grandest thing that has professionally happened to me."

Congratulations are certainly in order for you, Sir!

I saw him in a play called A Life In Theatre in 2005 at London's west end. He was fantastic and held me captivated for the enter show. He truly deserves the accolade for his contribution to English theatre.

  5. 5

    Congrats!!! :D

they hand out "sirs" like candy……….maybe this was something to be proud of at one point but nowadays just seems like something that happens once your an old man that's british………….

  7. 7

IMO, it's his acting that has kept Star Trek: The Next Generation in rerun syndication 15+ years since the show's end.

  8. 8

    Many congratulations Patrick!

  9. 9

And of course no mention in the paper of the man he brought to the ceremony.

  10. 10

it is about as relevant as getting a star on the Hollywood walk of fame at this point

  11. 11

Okay, so how many queens were in the room when he was knighted?

Aw, c'mon, people. A little levity. Congrats.

  12. 12

    Well done Patrick! Totally deserved.

I'm so glad for him, I was lucky enough to see him with Ian McKellen in 'Waiting for Godot' in the West End… He is even better in person than he is on film. I can't think of anyone more deserving of such an accolade.

    Re: koe

Oh my God. That's the epicenter of British Acting Awesomeness right there!

And I love happy news like this. Good for him. Though… you know what this means. He's Royal Shakespearean, so it won't be long before one of his fellow thesps from Stratford-on-Avon gets the honor as well. I, for one, am looking forward to Sir Malcolm McDowell. Especially if he breaks into Singing in the Rain. XD

Re: smoochie888 – I echo your sentiments. He's also a fantastic specimen of a man.

Pretty good for a boy born on the wrong side of the tracks who realized early on that he needed to speak differently in order to get somewhere. He taught himself how to speak with an upperclass British accent and then pounded on doors until they opened for him in the theatre. Congrats!!! Wish more people had that kind of determination!!!

  26. 26

Re: Spindoc – Hardly! I happen to know he was deeply in love with a vy expensive call girl in NYC for the bett part of a decade

  27. 27

Nice suit! Saville row no doubt…hits just beautifully in all the right places on his frame…very impressive. Nothing looks better on a man that a military uniform…or a bespoke suit. YUM.

  28. 28
