McDonald's Recalls Shrek Glasses!

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooFilm Flickers

Uh, oh!

McDonald's has recalled the 12 million collectible drinking glasses to promote the latest Shrek movie because the painted design on the glasses contains cadmium.

Cadmium is VERY toxic and is used in producing paint, coatings, batteries and other things humans shouldn't be consuming.

Parents, throw that shiz away!

i just bought a glass for my boyfriend like a few weeks ago!

  3. 3

I am so glad I didn't buy any of these glasses, and it is weird too because McDonald's hasn't had glasses in a while. I wonder why every time you turn around everything is toxic. Of course years ago those old televisions we all threw out were all toxic too, but that is another matter.

  4. 4

by the way, these glasses were made in the USA.

  5. 5

    old news

no doubt these shitty glasses were made in china, everything they manufacture is shitty. they are trying to kill us with all their lead products.

  7. 7

    Thanks for posting this!

Re: TheMrsBradPitt – oh dang! but I bet its a chinese mfg

  9. 9

mines been used twice…good thing it wasnt by me…damn…and i love my puss cup :(

  10. 10

granted the paint has cadmium in it but unless the kiddies are planning on eating the glasses, I don't see how they would ingest it. The design is painted on the outside, so it's not like they kiddies are gonna go around licking the glass and if they did, I doubt they could possibly lick the outside design enough to get sick.
    How dumb.

  11. 11

that is sick. why didnt they check them BEFORE they put them out to sell? why did they check LATER???

  12. 12

Another way the big M is killing off little children. Well done, Ronald.

  13. 13

Not only does their food kill you, their merchandise does as well ! !

  14. 14

first of all, DON'T THROW THEM OUT, GET YOUR REFUND. maybe YOU can afford to toss them Mario, but 2 bucks times 4,5, times is a trip to micky d's. stupid. anyhoo, This 'poison' has probably been on the 'jewelry' and 'glasses' we have bought for years. They only started testing recently. these glasses will not get you sick unless you EAT THE PAINT OFF 100 OF THEM.

I remember when I used to come here to read news and gossip first. now you're even falling behind the news perez. I'm disappointed in this site.

  16. 16

You'd almost think they were MADE IN CHINA. A very typical Chinese characteristic - merchnadise that harms !

  17. 17

Actually, if you tested all toys/clothes/furnishings for illegal chemicals, I'm more or less sure most of them would contain something illegal. It's one of the maufacturing industries worst kept secrets. It's too expensive to produce everything to legal requirements and to test everything to make sure.

  18. 18

Yeah I couldn't believe this, my mom bought 4 for my brother and took them back today. They had no problem or argument for it. Very nice about it.

It's too bad too =[ they are sturdy and cute cups!!!

  19. 19

Re: OscarP – The chemical is on the paint on the outside of the glass, so unless you wash your hands before you put your hands in your mouth or even eat… It will be ingested because it stays on your hands. So yeah it would be ingested unless you drink first, wash your hands, then eat.

Its fine if you're an adult and realize that you have to wash your hands… but when youre a kid, it's not good.

  20. 20

Ironically, that's probably the least toxic thing at the golden arches.

  21. 21

    Re: justtfax – Correct!

  22. 22

Thanks for posting this. I check this site regularly and don't always have time to read the news, etc. I may not have known to return my glasses if I hadn't seen this! The news release says they were in compliance with standards when released and then tested by a 3rd party company after. I just don't understand how they're oblivious to the products involved, i mean everything i supposed to list whats inside right so they should have known what was in the paint.

  23. 23

i will use it…but for anything but drinking
like a pencill holder cup orsmething

  24. 24

crazy, I bought one cause I like crap like this collectible shit…I have one from the last Shrek movie I don't use them or drink out of them I just collect…I would send it back, but only two bucks???…might as well keep it if I'm not going to drink out of it

  25. 25

Please don't just 'throw that shiz away'. Take them BACK to McDonalds. The last thing needed is this crap that's in the paints going into our landfills. Take them back so they are disposed of properly.

  26. 26

Damn, when I was a kid we used those McDonalds glasses to drink from. No telling how much toxic shit was on the outside of those glasses.

  27. 27

Now take the toxins out of the meat.

  28. 28

They actually have said not to throw them away but bring them in for a refund.

  29. 29

yeah…I knew about this 2 days ago…my husband works for McD's….I know to much!

  30. 30

    they where made in China

  31. 31

Re: DeeeeeeLIIIIITEE – It won't do you any harm.. the people who it may affect are the workers mixing the paints and handling this shiz all day, breathing it in. The laws against this kind of thing are tighter now than they were 50 yrs ago so that doesn't explain the rise in the kind of illnesses you mention… but I would say that if you are paying for healthcare you are much more likely to be diagnosed with something expensive!

I was going after the entire set. Thank God I didn't get any. Dammit - made in China of course.

  33. 33

    were these made in China?

  34. 34

I'm saving mine to sell on Ebay in about thirty years.

  35. 35

Its really elementry chemistry. These glasses have a small amount of cadmium in them. However when you put them in say a dishwasher you can change the chemical compounds of the cadmium depending on what elements are in your water, what you use for a clensing agent and the heat can all form a different element of cadmium altogether that forms on all your dishes. So from one glass your are transforming and spreading it to all your dishes. Eating utensiles in mouth and mixing with other foods…yum yum! Not really lethal with 1 or 2 glasses in the dishwasher but if you have a dozen then it gets interesting!!

  36. 36

Re: Dumb!dumb1 – You think cadmium will FORM on your dishes! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  37. 37

Re: DeeeeeeLIIIIITEE – THE EU pretends they care but there is no-one enforcing these rules… actually one of the problems is that a factory in China sells their goods all over the world and therefore is not willing or able to make special effort on the European goods.
I don't believe these chemicals are good for you but when people are happy to eat crap smothered in fertilizer, smoke and drink alcohol (often whilst pregnant) I don't see why we suddenly go mental about something like this!!

  38. 38

Re: i wish i was a she-wolf – Well that was not really what I was talkig about, but yes I suppose. The cadmium that is used in he paint on the glasses has a low boiling point so when flecs of the paint washes off your eating cadmium in its form. But do you seriously know how many (miniscule) chemicals are being created in a dishwasher? (molds, acids, salts, bleaches, etc). Those small white dots on your dishes are a goldmine of information of whats going on, and can be completely tranformed if you pop them in the oven and add extreme heat…of course the effects would not kill you right away but over time and depending on how many times your stick those utensiles in your mouth, mixing with your food. These manufacturers make all these products with minimum standards that are safe, but do they take into account mixing with other cleaning products, different water chemicals, elements? Its chemistry on a small level but we could be poisoning ourselves overtime.

  39. 39

    Re: Dumb!dumb1 – I don't have a dishwasher - ;)

  40. 40

why would anyone even buy these?

  41. 41

Case in point. The Chinese don't know jack shit about public health OR chemistry, yet they're supposed to be smarter than us Americans???? Cadmium is an alkali earth metal (very far left on the Periodic Table) and is thus highly reactive. Then again, McDumbalds can't figure that one out!!!
