Val Kilmer's Just A Little Bit Racist
Okay, maybe he's a lot racist, but that is not for us to say. That's for his neighbors to say and say loudly to the press!
Val Kilmer has been ordered to appear at a public meeting at the end of the month to defend himself against claims that he is a racist. These charges come directly from his Santa Fe neighbors, who insist comments he has made in recent interviews and the way he has treated them in the past makes him undesirable in their community.
The community is out to stop him from renting out guesthouses on his property until he can explain himself and his actions.
But what did he do?
According to the charges, the least remembered Batman allegedly chased his neighbors away from a stretch of the Pecos River, which he owns, but his neighbors are claiming was a racist act. It doesn't help his case that he has not one, but two recent interviews were he sounds off harshly about the condition of his community, though he still insists that he was misquoted.
Regardless, on June 23rd, he will be asked to stand up in front of his neighbors and explain himself. Hopefully, he'll come up with a better defense than Bombshell Mcgee.

Val is a white man in a territory made up of very old family New Mexicans who hate anyone not related to them. I feel sorry for Val since I had the same treatment in New Mexico. I finally moved out of the area that was unfriendly to whites.

Apparently it is just one hispanic neighbour kicking up the fuss. I have heard no mention of illegals though. Any articles that have been quoted are A) not recent and B) denied. Val has every right to kick people off his land. He has said he doesn't mind people fishing as long as they have the right permits and have asked permission to be on his PRIVATE property. Otherwise, as others have said, he has every right to have them removed from what is basically his home. He is not an absentee landlord and spends a lot of time there with his family. He has to think about their safety too.
And surely the American constitution gives everyone the right to free speech? Just as the neighbour has the right to complain, Val has the right to say whatever without it jeopardising his planning applications. He has done a great deal of good in New Mexico and should be encouraged not shouted down. It is the Council who have called the public meeting who appear to be in the wrong, and all credit to Val who has said he will attend.
As a post script it was 50 Cents who gave Val the car not vice versa, but obviously 50 doesn't see him as racist or he wouldn't be giving him gifts or employing him in his films.

Kilmer wants the county to approve a permit allowing him to rent out three guest houses on his ranch. The county Planning and Zoning Commission approved the request, but the County Commission wants him to make his pitch in person and explain his earlier remarks.
A 2003 Rolling Stone article quoted Kilmer as saying he lives in the "homicide capital of the Southwest" and that 80 percent "of the people in my county are drunk."
***If he filed the paperwork and everything is in order and has been approved, then his opinions of his neighbors and what he says should not legally be enough to put it on hold AND he definitely should not have to apologize for having that opinion!
