Neil Patrick Harris is defending his choice to cast Vanessa Hudgens for the role of Mimi in his upcoming production of Rent saying that "she's allowed the opportunity to express herself as a woman."
We think she accomplished that quite some time ago — but we'll see how she does!

I trust Neil, he's not gonna pick someone who's not gonna deliver. He worked with her on "Beastly" and was impressed with her work ethic. She auditioned

I have tickets for this show and I'm a HUGE "RENT" fanatic! So if NPH runs this show and it's image into the ground I will go ballistic. Vanessa Hudgens isn't the only questionable asting decision he's made though…Nicole Scherzinger is playing Maureen and Wayne Brady is playing Collins. So we'll see how this turns out, but if it sucks…I'm gonna raise Hell, LOL!
I trust Neil to know what he's doing. Besides, Vanessa started out in musical theater when she was very young. She is trained in dance. The head choreographer for the HSM movies said she is a natural and was the FIRST one to pick up all the dance moves and she had to wait for everyone else to catch up. I have no doubt that she will be awesome in Rent.
Vanessa Hudgens should portray Mimi in the timeless classic Rent, and Rush Limbaugh should be President of the free world.

The other selections from Neil Patrick Harris show the Hollywood Bowl production of Rent judges merit differently than many of us. Perez > the once awesome NPH.

I am extremely with you Perez.. I think Vanessa is gonna do a shitty job.. Mimi (in my eyes) is one of the bigger roles and one of the most unique roles in the whole film. But my first question is why the hell are they remaking it to begin with. Rent, to the people who have lived this life and know others who have, is more than just a dumb movie or a Broadway play it's a way of life and I think it's complete shit that they are remaking it.

I want to here Vanessa sing the part firts, before I will give my opinion. But a fact is that she has a singing voice Im just not fond of… so I don't knw
Mr. Harris come across as very defensive in the interview (so does his body language) . Something's up, and my guess is that Mizz Sludgens was forced on him. It would be VERY unusual for the director of this kind of production (limited run) to have complete casting freedom. My guess is that the Pinoy Puta was presented to Mr. Harris as a fait accompli.

Part of what a director does is to decide which battles to fight - and Mr. Harris must have decided that trying to get rid of the Lumpia Whore wasn't worth the hassle or bother. And remember that most of the tickets to this run of performances is sold far in advance to subscribers - it's NOT like a Broadway show where people make an individual decision to buy expensive tickets. Subscribers get the tickets whether they want to see the show or not, and I predict row after row of empty seats for this turkey of what is a marginal musical to begin with.

One good thing for Mizz Sludge-pit: Hollywood ALWAYS has a need for whores, whether in front of a camera, or on her knees. Keep practicing that no-teeth technique, Mizz Mud-gens - everyone was put on this earth for a reason, and how pleasant for us that you have discovered your true calling!
