I love Gaga! I really do. Initially, I thought, "OH God, here comes another blond bimbo with her dancey pop music", but she is something different in this post-modern blah, cookie-cutter pop culture scene… I love the fact that she has a profound respect, knowledge and understanding of different art movements: whether pop or high art.
I mean, sure, she "copies" or takes references from many other before her, but, again, we don't live in the 60s, 70s or 80s- where you had more of this "be inventive. be avant-garde. Go for it! Do it yourself (in terms of style). Be unique and innovative and original…" So for her to be doing what she is TODAY is remarkable. And I think the dancey pop music is essential- because it reaches the masses. And the masses need something very different and daring. Not daring in terms of exploiting sexuality; there are numerous concepts behind everything she does- sex(ploitation) is just one of them.
