One '80s Remake Battles Another '80s Remake!

And the winner is The Karate Kid!

Despite The Karate Kid and A-Team getting some pretty mixed reviews, movie goers were nostalgic for the totally tubular decade.

The Karate Kid took the top spot at the U.S. box office, making over $56 million, with A-Team taking a distant 2nd with $27 million.

Hollywood's lack of creative ideas are really paying off!

I saw the Karate Kid and it was soo good! Little Jaden was great :)

  2. 2

Yes it's paying off because people's brains hurt when they have to think. IQs are shrinking like the ozone layer.

  3. 3

    they both suck.
the karate kid REMAKE doesn't even COMPARE to the original.

  4. 4

Well I want to see Get Him To The Greek and The Karate Kid. But GHTTG first.

  5. 5

Wowww The Karate Kid made major bank! I might have to see this now.

  6. 6

UM, NO FAT BOY… HOLLYWOOD IS ACTUALLY SMART. THEY ACTUALLY GOT DOUCHE BAG TWEENERS TO SHELL OUT MONEY FOR A FLICK THAT'S WORSE THAN THE ORIGINAL WITH AVG. CRITIC SCORES BEING 6.3/10. WTF!! PAT MORITA SCORED AN OSCAR NOM WITH THE ORIGINAL; JADEN SMITH WILL SCORE A NOM WITH THE RAZZIE'S. BESIDES, WTF PAY $10 BUX AT THE BOX OFFICE WHEN YOU CAN SWAGGER JACK IT FOR $2 AT THE LOCAL CHINATOWN. YA THINK THE NEW GENERATION LIMEWIRE USERS WOULD KNOW BETTER. SMFH.

  7. 7

I soo wanna see this film :) !!!

  8. 8

    its just all gross!!!!!!!!

  9. 9

Soooo, let me get this str8. Hollywood has a lack of ideas. So what does the music industry think of you putting your name to a Vengaboys track whose main hook directly samples a Donna Summer track from the 70s? Pot kettle black ya fat gaylord.

  10. 10

Giving Jaden Smith billing before Jackie Chan is so disrespectful. Mr. Chan is an institution. It's like giving billing to Ke$ha before Madonna.

  11. 11

    what a slow day……

  12. 12

what a surprise a shitty remake movie made for stupid tweens who will eat up anything actually did good shocking

  13. 13

It's not a lack of creative ideas, it's GREED. The studios know that they can make easy money with remakes because people will spend money to see something they're already familair with. It's a sure thing.

i think pushing an 11 year old to these physical extremes si dangerous and in bad taste!

  17. 17

    PEOPLE really are desperate

  18. 18

jaden smith omg I can just hear his smart alec mouth now … must be nice to have the world handed to you on a silver plate

  19. 19

People are so starved for entertainment that they will flush their money down the toilet for a garbage movie.

BTW, I seriously question the motives of anyone over the age of 18 that pays to see this movie.

  20. 20

that is like going to a creek to fish but first making sure your butler goes and fills it with tout beforehand

  21. 21

ha. that shut yo ass up

  22. 22

Re: ladynTO – I meant to say trout but you get the gist lol

  23. 23

Ugh so i wonder why he doesn't get a lot of press like Justin Bieber..hmm i actually believe its cause he is black. that Zoe girl from Avatar career is through the roof but i don't hear the press stalking her

  24. 24

Karate Kid remake should have been called the Kung Fu kid because it's learning kung fu not karate. *face palm*

  25. 25

A "distance" 2nd? How`s that writing class workin` out for you?

  26. 26

Has anyone else noticed that Black Celebs never get talked about but yet their movies, music and shows do soo well? I wonder if its the constant media looking for the trashy people in hollywood to report on. Well Black people in hollywood should thank god they are fucked up like Lohan and Winehouse. LOL i guess it goes to show being black in hollywood is a blessing in disguise because now when they have a project out it always does well in the mainstream department. Oprah, Beyonce, Denzel Washington, Will Smith and that Tyler perrry guy is proof being black is a buisness stradegy. lol Kudos to them

  27. 27

Have only seen the previews. Looks like this kid is an annoying over-acting snot who knows his daddy is Will Smith. Ugh.

  28. 28

    Kung Fu kid

  29. 29

Re: hco323 – it could also be because he is simply not very cute.

  30. 30

I can't wait to see this movie. I will probably take the kids next weekend. If you love to shop the visit www.saxxix.com

  31. 31

1984 trudeau leaves politics - hey mikey, go for the remake

  32. 32

i saw the movie yesterday…at Dc ..on Capital Pride…acctually it was pretty good…mover action in than the 1st one…i like martial art movie with Jackie chan on it…

  33. 33

I'm not a fan of Jaden Smith…think he's a lil too arrogant for me. Love Jackie Chan though. I actually saw this movie and thought it sure doesn't beat the original, but it was pretty darn good. Wish it was more action, less dialogue though.

  34. 34

The A Team isn't a remake - it was a TV show not a movie.

  35. 35

I had friends walk out of this movie, the kid cant act and has no persoallity….

  36. 36

I think he is a cute kid. I'm taking my two kids tomorrow. I also enjoyed the first Karate Kid with Ralph. He was an adult when he did the films. But, he was great! Jaden looks good in this too. Love Jackie being the Master this time. Just glad there are movies where you can take your kids. I save Twilight for ME!

  37. 37

someone paid to see that? I am shocked.

  38. 38

Cool Im happy for Will little boy, I plan on seeing it,

  39. 39

I absolutely loved A Team! Bradley cooper is a hottie, Liam Neeson always delivers in high action movies, Quinton Rampage jackson was tough but lovable, and Shartlo Copley (dude from district 9) was HIGHLARIOUS!!! Like you have to go see A team! Karate kid~NO BUENO!

  40. 40

Re: MJLOVER87 – "Liam Neeson always delivers" - eh delivers what? Every performance is a mumbling snoozefest - he can barely get volume going with his speech, every movie of his is the same. Please!

  41. 41

Re: duelastar – Agreed. Especially since it took place in China, not Japan.

  42. 42

I saw it online….Glad I didn't waste a penny! Jaden Smith plays the same whiny spoiled brat in all his movies daddy gets him in.

  43. 43

The A Team was more entertaining. Karate Kid is way to long. I wouldn't be surprised if the A Team actually does better bank once the DVD comes out. Saw both the movies over the weekend and will be seeing the A Team again… won't see Karate Kid again

  44. 44

We loved loved " The Karate kid " He is so cute and charming like his daddy…. He has a big future as an actor ……Great movie to take the kiddos…!!

  45. 45

Re: Lissa-tx – Oh How can i forgot Mr Jackie Chan….he is so so good…he made me cry….Laugh and wanting to learn Kung fu plus the movie shows all the beautiful things that China Has….

  46. 46

WHY are ppl shitting on this kid? What exactly has he done thats arrogant?? Anyway, I'm a little too old for this movie, I'll wait till its on reg. TV next year. Looks cute though.

  47. @v@ says – reply to this

It's gotten some good reviews. Imagine the current state of movies when a remake of the Karate kid is number one; although I suppose this is a great movie for kids, who were born long after the original. Kids need heroes and inspirational movies too, so I'm good with it, as long as the boy gets mostly kid time.
