Quote Of The Day

atom-cruise-esquire-cover-0.jpg

"I remember looking at my dad and wanting to understand him. I didn't want to just write the guy off. He was lost. I can't speak specifically in terms of why and how he got to where he was — that was his journey. All I can tell you is, he was overwhelmed by life… My mother basically did all the work, and then they got separated and I didn't see him for a long time. He didn't try to help the family financially or spiritually, and I lived with the effects of the chaos."

- Tom Cruise, on his father, tells Esquire magazine

BWAHAHAHA. WHO CARESSS! EVERYONE IS DYSFUNCTIONAL AND GREW UP IN A DYSFUNCTIONAL HOUSEHOLD. WHAT IS CONSIDERED NON-DYSFUNCTIONAL ANYWAY?? NEXT.

  2. 2

Where's the story about mario possibly facing child pornography charges for posting a pic of 17 year old underage miley cyrus?

  3. 3

Say what you want about TC and Scientology, but that program has really worked for him. As much as I hate to admit it sometimes, I really enjoy him as an actor, and I enjoy that he seems to be able to laugh at himself. Some Scientologists seem to be as nutty as fruitcakes, and others just seem focused.

  4. 4

Who made the decision to give Tom Cruise a cover?

  5. 5

    Lunatic.

  6. 6

….and the family all sat around exchange meanful but inexpensive gifts every Christmas….and, and, no matter what he is doing on a film set, if one of his children phone, all is abandoned while he takes the call. His PR sucks but he belives every word. Bless, yawn, next sound bite, cough??!!!!

Re: xcalibur – haha, so true. And that truth sets us all free. Thanks for putting this perpective in a perfect nutshell!

  9. 9

what's his point and why is this the quote of the day?? millions of children live between separated homes or have only one parent…………esp. these days where having children comes before marriage (and/or love and faithfulness at that) and the sanctuary of marriage is now a joke…………….

  10. 10

Give the guy a break… he seems put together, focused and driven. His choice of religions is his choice. If you don't like his movies, there are plenty of other actors. But one thing you can safely say is that you don't see him whoring himself around, partying drunk or anything of the sort. He is a family man and a business man. That's more than most people in Hollywood can say for themselves.

  11. 11

    so..what happened to his father?

Re: xcalibur – agreed. everyone's family is f*cked up these days.

Wah Wah Wah Hey dipshit ever think that if it werent for your father's abandonment you would not have had the balls or desire to be as successful as you are? he gave you the gift of ambition, everything happens for a reason now get over it and go play with your airplanes you douche

  13. 13

Hate'n on Dad.. What till your kids get a crack at you!!!!! Their stories are going to sell books and movies about you crazy ass.

Boy, I do feel sorry for Tom´s Mom. Tom is overwhelmed by life. I have a sad sorry to tell too. You want to hear it? Yeah, I thought so.

  16. 16

God guys relax he was just giving his opinion on a question he was probably asked. You guys act like he committed mortal sin. Yes there are millions of other children who go through the same thing but let's be real most people only relate to their own pain more then others. That's how you connect to people from your experience. You can feel sympathy towards those children but most likely you will never know how it feels unless you went through it yourself. How many of us actually think of these children on a daily basis? Probably not many so plz stop preaching. Its not like he just started speaking randomly lol.

  17. 17

I can't understand why so many people hate on Tom Cruise…he seems like he is a genuinely nice guy. Don't judge him, lest you be judged too. Regardless of whatever it is that you don't like about him, he is a human being who has the same problems and feelings as anyone else. At least he's not going to jail for choking his wife, having affairs with skanks, and banged up on drugs! Give the man a break…

Re: mylovelove – EXACTLY! AMEN to that!!!

  19. 19

I grew up with a father who did not help my mother financially or spiritually either. I know how it feels to live with a parent who is overwhelmed by life. My mother was bitter, anger and full of rage because of this. This is not a subject to be taken lightly. It has repercussionos for life for the children affected. To read comments stating "oh get over it" is insensitive at the very least. I applaud Tom Cruise for his disclosure. I have a new respect for him. Thank you Tom.

I never thought I would see the day where I would say I would find something about Tom Cruise I could identify with and understand: Today is the day. This I relate to fully.
    .
Goes to show you we are all human beings.

    Re: April 20th

So what, he does not seem to be very sorry for himself and has a pretty good perspective on the thing, when you are famous people ask you questions about your life, he answered.

  22. 22

    Re: jessechin

No , noone cares. People/ media do on the other hand are interested in celebrities like Tom Cruise and ask questions about their past, to which answers like the above are given.

  23. 23

Very telling. He also said his father could be very controlling, and now he has become his father and doesn't even realize it. Sad -

  24. 24

The father story is too old. Tommy must have lots of more interesting quotes, like: What ya goin' do when K & D goes belly up? Are you serious about getting into that fat clown suit and playing Les Grossman?

  25. 25

Why do these heartfelt revelations always come out when he has a film to promote? It's hard to believe anything he says when his entire life is a deception. There is not a genuine bone in his body.

  26. 26

All of our parents made lots of mistakes, and those of us with children have made our own mistakes, but most parents don't do what Tom's father did. It shows a tremendous strength of character for him to have moved past his young experiences and become the success he has.

  27. 27

I like Tom. He doesn't get DUIs, he seems truly loyal to the people around him, and he did come from a dysfunctional family and overcame it. He's always been super-friendly to his fans also. So what if he's a little nutty. Who isn't?

  28. 28

    Oh.. that explains a lot

It shaped TC's life and who he's decided to be today, so it wasn't all bad, was it.

Re: JohnnyLaw – Baloney. Cruise could have done it all on his own. He was driven, and perhaps in part by what happened with his family. Hubbard was a scheming opportunist looking for a way to be a God in his own congregation. If you research how Scientology came into being, you'll see its questionable background, Hubbard's less than noble intent, and ergo its likely minimal contribution to Cruise's lucky and subsequent meteoric rise.

  31. 31

Re: Spindoc – I wonder how he ended up on the cover with the words "How to be a Man". When did he become a man???

  32. 32

This guy is a closeted homosexual, totally nuts, and the world's worst actor to boot. Poor Katie Holmes has aged 20 years since she met this wack job. This moron really feels he is god's gift to the world whenever he puts out more of his POS movies. He barely passed high school, yet he is an "expert" on post natal depression and it's treatment. This pompous boor must be hell to work with, live with and just generally share the same air space with. I'm sure the father was just as much of a nut case a he is since they share the same gene pool.

  33. 33

That's right Tom, blame you're being a fucked up ass hole on your Father. You're daughter and any other kids you may have will be just like you.

  34. 34

Oh cry me a river of alien tears! oh BTW Xanu is on line 1!

  35. 35

Gawd the amount of jealousy is overwhelming, oh wait nvm it's just the boys on here. anyways HE IS SO FREAKING HOT. I LOVE HIM. he's got a cute family and baby girl. But being in action movies, he stays super gorgeous and buff, and he can whoop some of your booties anytime. Mission impossible? No.

Being overwhelmed by life might have been his father living with the chaos of his own upbringing. Maybe his father's younger life was uber damaging. Sad, but it's never too late.

    Re: mylovelove

A family man? He's already on his third marriage.
