Gregg Allman's Liver Transplant Operation A Success

Phew! Good news from him!

A spokesperson for Gregg Allman, one of The Allman Brothers, revealed that Gregg survived a liver transplant operation this morning in Jacksonville.

Though Gregg has struggled with drug problems and the liver disease Hepatitis C, the transplant surgery was a success.

Great news!

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery!

Hmm…wonder how many more deserving people were passed up so this druggie "celebrity" could get a liver. So sick of people that can buy things when there's supposed to be a list of people who need them worst (aka David Crosby) If you destroy your body, then you should live with the consequences!!

Hope his bad health woes are behind him. I can't get over how much his son (Elijah Blue) looks like him. Which reminds me, hasn't he been married at least 6 times already? I bet there's plenty of other parts of his body worn out too. (wink wink)

Yeah, I wonder how many other more deserving people were bypassed, so this guy with wads of money can continue to abuse his body.

What a waste of a liver transplant when there's thousands waiting for one who didn't get that way due to alcohol/drug/hep abuse.

Great now you can start drinking and taking drugs again…

Re: trashtalktwo – I'm sure a family member donated it…

Celebrities actually do not receive special consideration in regards to transplants. It all depends on MELD (model end-stage liver disease) scores, blood type, and other physical factors. The people who decide who receives the organs only see the patients statistics and make decisions based on them. It is the negativity of people saying things like "he bought his way into it" that deter people from becoming organ donors. As someone who has been a caregiver for a transplant recipient and been through the process and struggles with many other patients and families (In Jacksonville and New York) I can tell you that I have personally seen the system at work. I can tell you that whoever the organ will work best for is the person who receives it.
Perhaps if more people were educated and took the time to really learn about organ donation and how many people they could help, there would not be as many patients and families suffering for as long as they are right now.
Instead of talking about peoples mistakes they have made in their past (because I'm sure you yourself are not without any kind of fault in your past) how about you make sure you are an organ donor, and be and organ donation advocate. Maybe less and less people will die while waiting for an organ, and there will be no need to worry about whether or not celebrities are allowed to buy their way into receiving an organ, because everyone who needs help will get it.

This is effing disgusting. As a person whose mother needs a life-saving liver transplant for a naturally-occurring liver disease, I am furious. I would like to spit in this man's face. I hope his body rejects the organ. He doesn't deserve it. Someone else will die now, because he is a selfish piece of trash.

yuckyuckeww… your mother is stupid whore, who deserves everything bad that happens to her, just because she raised and inbred d-bag like you. I hope both of you die today. Now go fuck yourself.

Re: causeascene – And P.S. I don't drink, smoke, or eat fatty foods in excess. So if I myself need an organ I know it wasn't from my poor lifestyle choices. David Crosby was a fat alcoholic who "miraculously" got his liver very quickly. And now this dude. I hear about normal everyday people that die waiting for organs. People who weren't druggies. I myself am an organ donor. I hope they actually go to someone that deserves it instead of a washed out old has been who had it coming.

great…another celebrity junkie moves to the front of the line.

  13. 13

    Well said Causeascene

Re: tnb – Your comment is silly. I'd be offended, but you're too stupid to garnish that reaction from me. I hope you donate your organs to a meth head.

he is a great musician and human being. props to perez for the nice post. he's been on the list to get that for a looong time.

Stunning how ignorant, intolerant and just plain old mean people can be! How does one qualify to be 'deserving' of such a life-sustaining gift? Probably not the close-minded people who are commenting here, sad! Go Gregg and God-bless! Always a fan… E

I'm glad he's well but a close relative of mine had Hep C and past drug/alcohol issues and was told no way he'd ever get a transplant. That he'd never move up the list. He later died from the complications. I hope Mr. Allman and his family realizes how lucky he is.

    Re: BeautifulDisaster311

Gregg Allman has been on the list for an extremely long time. If you knew about anything other than pop trivia, you would know that celebrities cannot buy a place in line for an organ. Gregg canceled his entire summer tour because he was unsure whether or not he would be able to get a liver. Gregg's been sober of everything for 15 years, and he's as nice a guy as you'll ever meet.

Can we get this straight - it is impossible to move up on the organ transplant list. Gregg has been on the list for years. It was his turn. He canceled all of his shows because he wasn't sure when or if he was going to get the liver. He has also been sober for 15 years.
