And he's getting some help from his friends!

When Sony Music Chief Creative Officer Clive Davis suggested that Carlos Santana take on legendary songs, the famous guitarist had second thoughts. -

He said:

"I was like, 'No, I don't know if I want to do this one, Clive. This one's a little challenging.' And he would stay on the phone for at least 45 minutes to an hour, three times in one year, and I was like, 'Oh, lord…' But then I started realizing that someone with that intense passion of commitment couldn't be wrong, so I had to trust him. And it was incredible."

The untitled album is due out in September and the track list sounds amazeballs! Collaborations include Rob Thomas on Cream's Sunshine of Your Love, Joe Cocker on Jimi Hendrix's Little Wing, Scott Weiland on the Rolling Stones' Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Chris Daughtry on Def Leppard's Photograph, Chris Cornell on Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love, Papa Roach's Jacoby Shaddix on Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water and Nas on AC/DC's Back in Black.

He added:

"What I brought to the table is my heart, knowing that I complement, I don't compete. I brought my heart, trusting that there's enough in me of purity and innocence and genuineness that I couldn't possible, excuse the expression, fuck it up. I know Eric (Clapton). I know Jeff Beck. I know Jimmy Page. And they know me. I have supreme certainty and confidence that they're going to say, 'Hey man, I love what you did with my song."

Sounds incredible. We can't wait!

Do you ever report actual gossip anymore or do you just post whatever press release some publicist sends you?

Not a good idea. There is a reason why iconic songs are iconic … they can't be redone any better than they are. I love Santana, but the reality is, all his guitar work sounds basically the same, and the success of all his latest collaborations were because of the people he worked with that sang on them , not really because of him. I've really liked most of his recent collaborations, he should just trust his own judgement and stick with them, and stay away from bad ideas like this. And NAS doing Back in Black??? Terrible.

I got nothing against Carlos, but he plays guitar for god sakes. That is all he is doing. He's having other artist sing other artists songs with him playing guitar. I'm sure there will be a grammy, but the category should be "the winner of only contributing guitar riffs to an album is…Carlos Santana".

We shall see. It would be alright to resurrect some retro tunes done by some really competent musicians. I'll bet some younger people haven't even heard some of them, from before their time.
