Ah, but we had a good run!

Our scrappy USA players played a great game against Ghana during Saturday's World Cup second round, but in the end, the Americans were defeated.

Going three minutes into overtime, Ghana scored the winning point with the final score 2-1.

This eliminates the USA team from the World Cup.

Sadsies!! But at least we got to see the players take off all their shirts after the game!

Re: greeneyes1986 – It was sad to watch. The USA team is a great group of guys and they wanted it so badly. They don't have the same mentality you see in teams like England, where many of the guys have huge egos and think they're larger than life. It's refreshing, because you see that in other American pro athletes, but these guys are humble and gracious players. I'm excited for 2014!

  2. 102

Re: Serena Loves Mario – oddly enough their fans don't seem to share in that humility. Lets face it Americans are known to have the biggest egos are are pretty much hated by everyone on the planet- and the ones that don't are to busy kissing their asses. As for England's football team, yes they're portrayed for having an ego but their English fans enjoy reminding them that they've yet to deliver. I'd much rather see a proper English player on the pitch than a yank that thinks he's got what it takes to compete in the world stage. Stick to your baseball- its not hard to run around a diamond like a retard.

  3. 103

Re: Serena Loves Mario – People like to talk about the England team that way, yes, but there really good guys. Like they've all agreed to give thier money from today germany vs england game to charity, you dont see many teams doing that.

  4. 104

Re: Ellie9 – Hated by everyone on the planet? I'm sick of hearing shit from people like you that stereotype an entire nation, insulting 300 million people that you know shit about. You've probably never actually met any of us, and if you have, you probably went on holiday to Florida once, and now claim you're an expert on Americans. I've lived in the UK for 5 years and can say that anything said about Americans (fat, lazy, stupid, arrogant) can also be said about the people of this country.
Baseball is possibly the most boring sport on the planet, yet you assume that because I'm a yank, I enjoy it. Fuck off.

  5. 105

Re: jenniexo – I do agree there are good guys on the team, but some of the guys do have the arrogance that is common among American pro athletes, and I like that you don't see that on the US football team. There are a lot of teams with that mentality, it's not just a few guys on England. It's probably because the US is an underdog team, their players aren't well-known and treated like celebrities, and no one expected them to get anywhere in the tournament.

  6. 106

Americans like American football in front of "Soccer" just cause you can still be fat and play…

  7. 107

    Come on England!!

Re: Serena Loves Mario – I thought USA did really well and they seem like really nice guys and i hope that they do a little better at the next one. I feel sorry for the players not having the support of the majority of their country like all the other countries taking part (Ghana has the support of most of the African continent which is really nice for them).
I know some of the english players have a bit of an ego (not all of them do), but a lot of the teams participating suffer with players with far too large an ego (like Portugal). So I don't think its fair to just single out one team.

  9. 109

Re: Serena Loves Mario – Yeah, you're right, I think that's the reason the USA did so well, because there was no pressure on them, whereas all there was on England was pressure and thats why they didn't perform how everyone thought they would in the first two games. And there are players on the England team I don't like, but some are really genuine guys. So who are you rooting for today, England or Germany! Haha ;)

  10. 110

Re: jenniexo – I live in Scotland, so I'll be rooting for Germany, like the rest of Scotland :)

  11. 111

i really hope you didnt expect you to go any further, because the us isnt good at soccer and dont care about the sport, and what you wrote here proves that.. its called a goal when they score, not a point. And you a 30 something old guy should really know that

  12. 112

Re: koe – I know, I forgot where I was posting, where if you make a statement like that, you get attacked. So I'll rephrase: it's not just England and it's not the entire England squad!
Actually, this year there has been overwhelming support for the US, and it's significantly more than in 2006. Last World Cup, it was mostly people that used to play football that were watching the matches, but this time, you see people that know little about the sport getting into it and supporting the US (this is what I've been told by friends in the US). It's also more difficult to watch the matches, because they happen in the middle of the day in the US.
There definitely was more support for Ghana, though, since an entire continent was rooting for them.

  13. 113

Re: Serena Loves Mario – Haha, fair enough! I'v got my England flag all ready to wave, now im wating for three o'clock!

  14. 114

Re: Swoosh87 – There are big guys playing in the NFL, because you need massive guys to stop the opposing team. If they weren't large (and muscular) they'd have a shit defense. It's a terrible sport, though.

  15. 115

Your World Cup reporting is about as accurate as a FIFA ref. It wasn't in the 3 minute overtime that Ghana scored. It was in the 1st 15 minutes of 30 in extra time…. for future reference. If you can't report sports correctly… go back to reporting Lady Gaga and her ass you lick

  16. 116

Not like you'll be relevant in 4 yrs to even attempt to report World Cup scores again

  17. 117

    yayyyyyyyyyyyy

  18. 118

    Re: Serena Loves Mario

    well said, bang on

  19. 119

Re: Eldridge Cleaver – Please shut up you arrogant American know-it-all. Soccer has been around much longer than your gay touchy-feely American football and is and always will be the more popular and played sport throughout the world. American Football isn't war (nice way of putting it btw), the amount of protective gear they wear is laughable. If you want war try rugby. That's where you got American Football from, remember? This whole America versus the rest of the world-attitude is becoming tiresome, especially considering you've only been around for a little over 500 years.

  20. 120

you clearly have NO CLUE about soccer so why even try to sound like u know wat ur talking about??????

its not "three minutes overtime" it was actually half an hour EXTRA TIME and 3 minutes added extra time.

also, theres no "points" in soccer, its called a goal.

ALSO, stop saying "we" theres no we, just you. and ur not BFF with lady gaga so shut up

  21. 121

I´m Sorry USA! ESPAÑA is the best!

  22. 122

Americans should be PROUD of their Team!

They were awesome and as a Brazilian myself, well, I KNOW some about football…

I think the referees weren't fair to them by the way, 2 goals were simply stolen from them! I think the US Team just need more time and more WC matches to become one of the most strong teams in the world. And I'll be very happy for them when they win a World Cup for first time! Good Luck!

  23. 123

    damn! it's soccer…

  24. 124

i think this is the first time ive even seen americans take some kind of interest in soccer.

  25. 125

You would have won if Feilhaber would have played from the start.

  26. am. says – reply to this

    126

I'm so sure you even know a thing about soccer. fucking idiot.

  27. 127

SOCCER is fucking boring! Can't wait for it all to be over!

  28. 128

we love you, USA!!! our guys were great, I am very sad we are out but I am also really happy with the support the US fans gave them. I thnk people are definitely going to take an interest in soccer now. It will definitely take some time to get bigger but i think they are def making strides. Donovan was AMAZING btw, I LOVE HIM!!

  29. 129

Re: Amsterdamgirl – ummm you're totally wrong. there are people here who love the sport, and we can get involved if we want to. I have loved football my whole life. don't be ignorant.

  30. 130

Re: Eldridge Cleaver – First of all football will never compare to american football and if you wanna make a fair comparison why not compare rugby to football. If nfl team were to play the all blacks they would get crushed even with all their protective gear. Lastly why would you even bring baseball into the discussion its basically a poor mans cricket. I'm don't wanna hate on americans im sure most of them are lovely but some are just arrogant narcissistic pricks. Seriously what are you so proud about when you brag about your country; when most of us "foreigners" just see a bad economy, crappy cars, no fashion sense.

btw: greetings from norway the richest country in the world with the most beautiful women.

  31. 131

why do u call it soccer like wtf the whole world calls it football cuz u use ur feet seriously anyways football is the only sport that unites the world together

  32. 132

Re: LondonCallingGirl – @ No. 99 - Bravo! You said it best!!

  33. 133

    Re: Eldridge Cleaver

Yes, Americans like war. Americans are the cause of so may trouble in this world.

  34. 134

    Germany 4-1 England :)

  35. 135

    URUGUAYYYYY!!!!! this friday uruguay ghana!!!
nobody expected anything from us, but we're still standing!!

  36. 136

COME ON SPAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The match with Portugal is going to be EPIC

  37. 137

Be proud anyway team USA; Scotland didn't even qualify to play in the WC.

  38. 138

    extra time not overtime.
    goal not point.
    fucking stupid american.

  39. 139

who gives a shit about soccer anyway?…leave that shit 2 the europeans n latinos….we americans kill it on everythin else like football, baseball, basket…WE FUCKIN RULE BTCHZ!!!

  40. 140

Re: like, whatever! – i'm assuming that you're here to represent that large portion of america that has the attention span of a 3 year old child with ADD whose pumped full of smarties.

  41. AniaM says – reply to this

    141

    Re: Ellie9

If you would pay more attention, US football fans and players don't have the stereotypical American ego. Given the small (but growing) popularity on the sport, they don't feel the need to act like divas (such as several players in Europe or NFL, MLB, etc.) since they are playing and watching them play for the pure love of the sport.

You want ego fights? Try today's Argentina vs. Mexico. The battle of the egos in full force. Enjoy!

  42. 142

Winning point? LOL, gays. When you call football soccer, you know you're not gonna win the game lolz. Are you guys the only ones in the world to call it that?

  43. 143

ghana was playing football, the usa was playing 'soccer'

  44. 144

Haha, USA plays like shit, no wonder Ghana ate them up and spit them out so easily… They shouldn't even have gone to the World Cup in the first place.
This is a sport that unites the world, and USA doesn't see that, so fuck the hell off..

  45. 145

I am proud of team U.S.A. but I always believed Ghana was going to win that match.

  46. 146

well, as a person natural from the country that has the best " futebol" ever, Brazeeeeel, i must say USA did a VERY GOOD JOB! it will probably get better and better in the near future!!! Congrats!!!

  47. 147

Re: Strudelchen – FUCK YOU! what do you know about americans, you dumbass! you've probably never even been here! its so fucking annoying that you decide to stereotype us all, like you even know… and since you obviously don't know what your talking about fuck off.

And for all of you haters, if we are so bad at football, how did we make it to the elimination round?! probably better than what half of your teams did.

  48. 148

big surprise, another thing the USA fails big time at hahaha.

  49. 149

Re: blahblah12 – theres no such thing as a smart american LOL

  50. 150

Re: Eldridge Cleaver – seriously, go fuck yourself. everytime you leave a comment its like nails on a chalkboard. seriously, i wish i didnt notice, but thats how fucking you stupid you are and how much i hate you. I am american and to me you are beyond ridiculous. you give americans gets a bad rep because fuckers like you decide to stick your two sense into everything when you clearly don't know what your talking about. and its funny that you would quote steven colbert, considering his show is centered around making fun of republicans and you clearly must be a republican. IF YOU DONT LIKE FOOTBALL DONT BOTHER LEAVING A COMMENT. you just make yourself look stupid.
P.S. its sick you would call someone a nazi and even be proud of bombing another country considering it killed thousands of people, i've been to dresden and it is one of the most beautiful cities in germany. get you fucking head out of your ass and shut up.

  51. 151

    Re: Chelsea – Another idiot…

  52. 152

Re: TrueBeauty – Yes, that's because the sports you mentioned are mostly played by Americans in America… ffs, you only 'rule' in those sports because you're the only ones playing them! Soccer is played by countries all over the world; Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Australia, Asia, they're all competing in the World Cup. Don't hate the game because you're not that good at it…

  53. 153

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! They suck anyways, they can take their ego and shove it.

  54. 154

THIS SUCKS THEY SHOULD HAVE WON THIS GAME

  55. 155

    Not Ghana happen!!!!

  56. 156

    Not Ghana happen!

  57. norpa says – reply to this

    157

It is called FOOTBALL, NOT "SOCCER"… why are Americans the only one in the WHOLE entire world who calls this amazing sport "soccer"??? BTW American football is mostly played by hands….. do you see where i am going with this???? good for GHANA BTW!!

  58. 158

so sad :( but nice body lol

  59. 159

Re: renkae – And where are you from asshole??

  60. 160

Re: Patricia Moura – Thank you for showing class…unlike the rest of these people who feel the need to take jabs at America every chance they get. It's nice to know there's still some decent, diplomatic people out there. It seems that many people just wait for the opportunity to hate on America which is extremely pathetic.

  61. 161

Re: Moogle80 – I think the fact that we've been around for that little amount of time and are such big players in the world is an amazing thing. I'm proud of my country for accomplishing what we have in only a little over 500 years.

  62. 162

Re: primetime11 – Who do you think you are??? That's an extremely unfair generalization to make! I love how people throw around accusations of arrogance, and then you have the gall to say most Americans are this and that. F*ck you you piece of crap! You don't know shit about the average American!

  63. 163

Re: TangledUpInBlue2303 – Um, sweetheart, i didnt see YOUR country playing in the World Cup. So instead of us sticking to "our baseball" how about sticking your stank foot into your mouth before talking shyt about USA? please and thank you.

  64. 164

This is just ridiculous…all the posts I'm reading. You know, this is sports!! And everyone is throwing insults around at the U.S. You know it's frightening to see how many negative things people have to say about the U.S. considering how much we have done for many countries while we ignore our own problems. This is why I wish the government would stop helping others, because all they do is hate us! You people are pathetic and you WISH you could be us! I'm not saying that about all of you, just the pieces of shit who come on here and constantly spew hate…when they've NEVER met a real American! You've probably met the retards that reside in tourist areas…like Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, etc. Those aren't even REAL Americans. Those are mostly wealthy assholes. Meet a real American, then you can talk you pieces of shit!!!!!!!!!!!

  65. 165

Re: Eldridge Cleaver – It's the most watched and most played game in the world. We Americans do let ourselves down by being so insular and unaccepting of the outside world, only 10% of us have passports for gods sake. Maybe the rest of the world wouldn't hate us so much if we learned to be a bit more tolerant of other countries..I don't know..just a thought.

  66. 166

Re: justanothernickname – Maybe you shouldn't be living in America a**hole. I'm so sick of self hating Americans like you.

  67. 167

Re: BritBrit61384 – I lived in the US (not in tourist areas like you said) and I visit it all the time, I'm always defending americans because I think it's unfair all the hate you get and I truly think you're one of the nicest people there is, but you have to know that making arrogant comments like "you wish you could be us" doesn't help. Trust me, we DON'T wish we were americans, nothing personal, just that most people are happy with their own nationalities, I'm brazilian and I wouldn't want to be anything else.

Anyway, I think the american team is way better than people give them credit for (2nd place on the confederations cup) and hopefuly in a few years from now people will take them more seriouly. And kudos for playing with a lot of determination and heart.

  68. 168

Re: raflona – I didn't mean that comment to those who don't spew hateful comments. I meant it to those who talk smack, because I've learned that when someone speaks negatively about something, they're usually envious of it. No offense to people like you who are proud of what you are and feel no need to put others down for what they are. If only there were more people like you, who actually take time to get to know people before judging. And I've never been to Brazil, but I hear it's beautiful.
