USA Loses! Eliminated From World Cup 2010!

Ah, but we had a good run!
Our scrappy USA players played a great game against Ghana during Saturday's World Cup second round, but in the end, the Americans were defeated.
Going three minutes into overtime, Ghana scored the winning point with the final score 2-1.
This eliminates the USA team from the World Cup.
Sadsies!! But at least we got to see the players take off all their shirts after the game!

They don't have the same mentality you see in teams like England, where many of the guys have huge egos and think they're larger than life. It's refreshing, because you see that in other American pro athletes, but these guys are humble and gracious players. I'm excited for 2014!

Lets face it Americans are known to have the biggest egos are are pretty much hated by everyone on the planet- and the ones that don't are to busy kissing their asses. As for England's football team, yes they're portrayed for having an ego but their English fans enjoy reminding them that they've yet to deliver. I'd much rather see a proper English player on the pitch than a yank that thinks he's got what it takes to compete in the world stage. Stick to your baseball- its not hard to run around a diamond like a retard.

Re: jenniexo – I do agree there are good guys on the team, but some of the guys do have the arrogance that is common among American pro athletes, and I like that you don't see that on the US football team. There are a lot of teams with that mentality, it's not just a few guys on England. It's probably because the US is an underdog team, their players aren't well-known and treated like celebrities, and no one expected them to get anywhere in the tournament.
Americans like American football in front of "Soccer" just cause you can still be fat and play…

Re: Serena Loves Mario – I thought USA did really well and they seem like really nice guys and i hope that they do a little better at the next one. I feel sorry for the players not having the support of the majority of their country like all the other countries taking part (Ghana has the support of most of the African continent which is really nice for them).
I know some of the english players have a bit of an ego (not all of them do), but a lot of the teams participating suffer with players with far too large an ego (like Portugal). So I don't think its fair to just single out one team.
Re: Serena Loves Mario – Yeah, you're right, I think that's the reason the USA did so well, because there was no pressure on them, whereas all there was on England was pressure and thats why they didn't perform how everyone thought they would in the first two games. And there are players on the England team I don't like, but some are really genuine guys. So who are you rooting for today, England or Germany! Haha

Actually, this year there has been overwhelming support for the US, and it's significantly more than in 2006. Last World Cup, it was mostly people that used to play football that were watching the matches, but this time, you see people that know little about the sport getting into it and supporting the US (this is what I've been told by friends in the US). It's also more difficult to watch the matches, because they happen in the middle of the day in the US.
There definitely was more support for Ghana, though, since an entire continent was rooting for them.

Your World Cup reporting is about as accurate as a FIFA ref. It wasn't in the 3 minute overtime that Ghana scored. It was in the 1st 15 minutes of 30 in extra time…. for future reference. If you can't report sports correctly… go back to reporting Lady Gaga and her ass you lick

I think the referees weren't fair to them by the way, 2 goals were simply stolen from them! I think the US Team just need more time and more WC matches to become one of the most strong teams in the world. And I'll be very happy for them when they win a World Cup for first time! Good Luck!

I thnk people are definitely going to take an interest in soccer now. It will definitely take some time to get bigger but i think they are def making strides. Donovan was AMAZING btw, I LOVE HIM!!

If you would pay more attention, US football fans and players don't have the stereotypical American ego. Given the small (but growing) popularity on the sport, they don't feel the need to act like divas (such as several players in Europe or NFL, MLB, etc.) since they are playing and watching them play for the pure love of the sport.

Trust me, we DON'T wish we were americans, nothing personal, just that most people are happy with their own nationalities, I'm brazilian and I wouldn't want to be anything else.
Anyway, I think the american team is way better than people give them credit for (2nd place on the confederations cup) and hopefuly in a few years from now people will take them more seriouly. And kudos for playing with a lot of determination and heart.
