A historic day indeed!

Iceland's Prime Minster married her long-time partner yesterday, said her office this morning, making her the world's first national leader with a same-sex spouse.

Amazing!

Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir married writer Jonina Leosdottir exactly on the day a new law took effect in the country defining marriage as a union between "two consenting adults regardless of sex."

What a crazy idea, huh?

Congratulations ladies! What you've achieved in your country we hope makes its way to ours very soon! Make sure you mention how happy you all are at the next UN Summit!

I'm proud to live in a country where people are so open minded!

  3. 3

VERY exciting news! How wonderful! Now Johanna could somehow fix the Icelandic banking crisis and do something about that damn volcano! Oh well, CONGRATS to the happy couple!

"two consenting adults regardless of sex."
Now that is a great definition! Sorry people who think it will lead to beastiality and pedophilia to being legal, but that pretty much sums it up. You have to be an adult and you have to consent to it.

YAY! that is amazing! let's hope other countries follow and giver every living human being equality!

We need to just minus the CULTS (religion) from the equation and it could happen here in America. Its all the "bible-thumper"s in Middle America. Go back to sleeping with yer cousins!

    COOL !!!

Whatever, Western Europe is over the gay topic. No one really cares anymore. That's so 10 years ago. We have so many gay politicians. There are important things to take care of and we don't have time to give a shit about someone's gayness.

For these two women, who have probably spent their lives defending/fighting for their relationship, this is amazing!!! Good for Iceland, more countries should be like this, like mine… Canada :)

I want to marry two women and a man, because I'm a bigamist. EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!

  11. 11

Iceland, it's the best = ) Well, minus the crisis, the volcano and that damn cold weather .. it's the best : D

  12. 12

Yikes! That's one fugly lady and Iceland is one shitty country!

  13. 13

I'm so impressed that their Prime Minister, of all people, could legally marry.
Makes America look all the more like backwoods Bible-pounding bigots.

Who cares what hole she likes to stick her tongue into.

Re: bigray – I feel sorry for you,I truly do.

  16. 16

Yes they're a progressive country, same as Canada. I wonder why the US is so backward when it comes to equality for every citizen….strange….

  17. 17

    awwww congrats!

The thing is that Iceland is light years away in comparison to the "redneck-ness" that is the US and it's laws.

  19. 19

huh? that damn volcano! has been out for weeks now …..

Re: PalmSprings – The volcano has been quiet for weeks now…too bad the ash is still blowing all over the place.

Re: duelastar – There's nothing funnier than a redneck saying "If you let two men marry, what's next? A man marryin' a dog?", but sadly, that's a popular sentiment in the US. It just makes no sense to me how massive amounts of people feel they have the right to decide what consenting adults can and cannot do. I have gay friends that would love to get married, but they can't.
Re: tellall – I also think if a man wants to marry two or more women, or a woman marry two men, or two women want to marry two men, there's nothing wrong with it! Consenting adults should be allowed to do what they like. You have a small group of people who believe in marrying young, underage girls off to old men, and others taking advantage of the welfare system, and it ruins the possibility of polygyny, polygamy and polyandry becoming legal.
Re: marlow – The religious conservatives have too strong a voice. My cousins are like that, very vocal against same-sex marriage, and I don't understand it. How does it affect their lives if two men or two women marry? Sad!

    Bonne chance!

  23. 23

that's great and all but what's a "Minster" did u mean Minister, good God man or whoever does your postings, ever heard of spell check?

Re: Ü!!!SEMICOLON!!!bergeist – If I recall this is exactly what Western Europeans said about Jews less than a century ago.
