It's Confirmed! Steve Carrell Leaving The Office

Although there have been rumors hinting of his exit, Steve Carrell has confirmed that he is leaving his beloved role on NBC's The Office.

He says:

"I just think it's time. I want to fulfill my contract. When I first signed on I had a contract for seven seasons, and this coming year is my seventh. I just thought it was time for my character to go."

It doesn't certainly mean the end of the show. I think it's just a dynamic change to the show, which could be a good thing, actually. Add some new life and some new energy…I see it as a positive in general for the show.

I didn't see it as a huge thing and I certainly didn't anticipate any sort of hubbub over it. I'm just not going to extend my contract, but I didn't see it as a huge deal. And the show is great, and the ensemble is so strong, and the writers are great, so it's just one part of that ensemble drifting off. They've incorporated so many new characters and so many new, great storylines that I have no doubt it'll continue as strong if not stronger than ever."

We can't imagine Dunder Mifflin without Michael Scott!

Could U?!

    3. 3

It doesn't mean the end of the show? BS… he IS the show!

    4. 4

Great. The show is now fucked! Bye bye "The Office." It was good while it lasted.

    5. 5

Uh… Michael Scott is the main part of the show! WTF!

    6. 6

What?!?!?! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO (Say it like when he sees Toby) !!! :(

    7. 7

oh no!!! this is awful news!!!! i love the show but come on….really?!!? his movie-money is awfully tempting…..

    8. 8

although the other characters are funny, the show really does revolve around him. I do think it should have ended about 2 seasons ago though, hasn't been that funny in a while, but i still watch! I think this would be a good season to just wrap everything up. Maybe Dunder Mifflin will finally go out of business.

    9. 9

its definitely going to suck without him

    10. 10

seriously? He doesn't think it's a big thing? I love this show and now it to, is leaving

    11. 11

Darn all the good shows are gone. This will too once Steve leaves. Good Steve on your next venture.

    12. 12

Sorry to say, but The Office has been over for a long time.

    13. 13

Michael Scott IS The Office!!!!!! Their only hope now it to replace him with Ricky Gervais! Ha!

    14. 14

Lol, Dunder Mifflin did go out of business. They work for Sabre.

    18. 18

I think he is the worst part of the office. But the show will only last a year, maybe 2 without him

    19. 19

Michael Scott is the show! it won't last another season without it

then again, the show was at its prime in Seasons 1 and 2, and sorta downhill from there.

    20. 20

      NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    21. 21

ummm he confirmed that a REALLY long time ago. You need to be more up to date Mario!

    22. 22

If he goes, the show is over.

    23. 23

THIS SUCKS! THE SHOW IS STILL GOOD. WHY IS HE LEAVING??!! :(

    24. 24

The Office needs to stop. It is centered around his character. It's just like if Homer left The Simpsons. The show will just be about Pam and her boring lifestyle and Dwight being amazing. Still, the show can not go on.

    27. 27

No Carrell = No Show. Michael Scott IS THE SHOW! Perhaps they should just pull the plug. The series jumped the shark a while ago.

Sad! Steve Carell is awesome and makes the show. Maybe they could get Ricky Gervais in to take the lead????? The original British "OFFICE" was hilarious.

    29. 29

i'd love to have a boss like michael scott. he's hilarious and on the show he really gets things going…THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID.

at least we still have dwight =D

    30. 30

Aww, the show's gonna tank without him =(

    31. 31

might as well as cancel the show.

    32. 32

NOOOOOOO! Has he lost his mind?!?! He is a fucking idiot for not thinking it's a big deal. That show might still be funny without him, but no way will it be funnier! That show is going to get cancelled so hard.

    33. 33

God it PISSES ME OFF how light he is making the situation.

    34. 34

      NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :( :(:(:(:((:(:(:(:(

    35. 35

i think i might just cry!
      .
      .
      yep, i'm deffinitely will cry. :( :(

    36. 36

Hate to say it, but the show will not last without him.
I wish he would change his mind.

    37. 37

I want the show to end once Michael Scott leaves.

The ending should be - Michael leaves to run the NY office, and they get their UK representitive to take Michaels place in the Scranton Branch…the representive is from Slough…Mr David Brent.

    38. 38

      Re: Sniffles358

Hahaha I did the same damn thing

      "NO GOD NO! NOOOOOOO!"

The Office without Steve Carrell = No show. It's as simple as that. :'(

    39. 39

NOOOO!!! =( Micheal Scott is the show! its sad how much this saddens me.

    40. 40

sad fucking day rip michael scott

    41. 41

The show has been going down hill for the past couple of seasons, they really need to end it now.

    42. 42

Ah it will suck without Steve, and the Office won't last if they continue with it. Look at what happened with Scrubs, That 70's Show, etc.

    43. 43

Michael is the show …it's over when he leaves. All of the characters are great, but without him as the common thread it's done. Love this show…

    44. 44

Yeah remember what happened to the O.C after they killed Marissa off? Welp it's about to happen again…please don't do this Steve :-(

    45. 45

In other words, "This show gave me the recognition I needed to become a big movie star. Screw you, underlings, I am out of here. I'll wave at you as I pass the unemployment line, suckers! Bwa ah ah…."

    46. 46

There is no show without him. bummer

    47. 47

Thank God! He was getting so ridiculous on the show and overwhelming everything that was happening. I liked the show so much better in the past when it was more balanced and portrayed everyone equally. He has dominated the show for the last few seasons to the detriment of the show. Can't wait until he leaves! I just wish they had diminished his role sooner. Michael is beyond obnoxious now.

    48. 48

WHA WHA WHA WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!! MICHAEL SCOTT IS DUNDER MIFFLIN!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    49. 49

      wtf. this is TERRIBLE.

    50. 50

      Re: sheesha
Although I disagree about Michael, I think you have a point - there's sure to be a spin off here!

    51. 51

the only person that could replace him is the orginator… the one who created the office Ricky Gervais!!

    52. 52

Its a nice thought that the show could go on without him but unfortunately like everyone else i think it will fail.
