Tennis Stars' Family: OD Caused By Prescription Meds

Olympic-winning tennis player Jennifer Capriati was admitted to a Florida hospital this weekend after suffering an overdose.

Her family said she is "recuperating at a South Florida hospital from an accidental overdose of medication prescribed to Jen by her personal physicians."

Apparently, Jennifer has admitted to previously suffering from depression and having suicidal thoughts - hopefully this "accidental" overdose isn't related.

Get better, bb.

i'd kill myself too if i looked like she does and if my whole life was based around the stupidest sport in exsistance

the only reason people even watch female tennis is because of the short skirts and the sex noises… replace that with a horse and what do you have?

As a tennis fan, I have to say this is such a sad story, another casualty of an overly aggressive tennis parent who pushed her into pro status at the age of 13. She was depicted in t he media as this sunny, carefree, well-balanced little kid competing in a ruthless adult world – but of course, that story line could not have really been true, and we found out it wasn't. I hope whatever demons are driving her, t hat she sorts them out. Good luck, Jennifer.

people need to learn how to deal with their problems instead of medicating them…seems to be the problem these days….

It's tough to craft a life when you're a media darling at age 14, and at the top of your "profession." If you don't become a commentator, as did Tracy Austin, or a nun (Andrea Jaeger) or a stay-home mom (name dozens) or a doubles player (dozens), what can you do? Live off investments? Write books (Monica Seles) that don't sell, or go on reality shows (Monica Seles)? You have to retool, which means train for something else.

But if you decide the best part of your life is behind you (Andrew Koenig), there's no reason not to check out; why hang around until age 70 or 80? Just to prevent parental guilt? At least with suicide you are determining your fate, which is what a good tennis player usually does too. Everyone will die, after all.

I don't think it was intentional, though. And she's still here, marching along with the other 6+ billion schmucks in the doomed-to-extinction parade…

I loved watching Jennifer play tennis. Too bad she let illegal drugs get in the way of her career. If you have followed her you would know she went off radar a long time ago, because of drugs.
