Larry King Announces He's Leaving CNN! Departure To Be Made Before End Of Year!

In an unexpected move, Larry King announced that he is leaving his longtime home of CNN! His last show will be some time in November.

His age (76), declining ratings and personal turmoil with his life probably prompted the news anchor to make the decision to exit the cable news network.

In a statement, King says:

"Before I start the show tonight, I want to share some personal news with you. Twenty five years ago, I sat across this table from New York Governor Mario Cuomo for the first broadcast of Larry King Live. Now, decades later, I talked to the guys here at CNN and I told them I would like to end Larry King Live, the nightly show, this fall and CNN has graciously accepted, giving me more time for my wife and I to get to the kids’ little league games. I’ll still be a part of the CNN family, hosting several Larry King specials on major national and international subjects.

I’m incredibly proud that we recently made the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest running show with the same host in the same time slot. With this chapter closing I’m looking forward to the future and what my next chapter will bring, but for now it’s time to hang up my nightly suspenders."

CNN also issued a statement on Larry's departure, saying:

"Just as CNN redefined the news business, Larry King defined the art of the television interview. His candor, curiosity and compassion are legendary, and his ability to interview people from all walks of life—world leaders, celebrities and everyday people—has made him an icon. Having conducted nearly 50,000 interviews over 50-plus years in broadcasting, Larry deserves to take some time for himself and his family. After 25 years at CNN, he will conclude 'Larry King Live' on his own terms, sometime this fall. We are proud and grateful that Larry will continue the next chapter of his storied career at CNN and will host several specials over the coming years.

Today is about Larry. We will announce plans for the 9pm hour in the weeks ahead."

So long, Larry! It's been a long and eventful ride.

absolutely, utterly, and totally overdue. If you check the back of his neck, the "best before" date was somewhere in the 90s. his show has been in decline for a long, long time, and it has been dragging the rest of CNN down with it.

so long larry, it has been time to go for a long time. rather than wait, why not just get going now and avoid missing the little league season?

i bet ryan seacrest will go after his spot.

It's about time!!!! After his interview with Ringo & Paul several years ago, asking them the most inane questions, it was so obvious Larry King is out of touch with contemporary pop culture.

Damnnnn I thought the Breaking News would be worse!

It will either be Perez Hilton, Jack E. Jett, Carrott Top or Kate Jackson that will replace him.

My god! it's about time!!! His interviews are so boring and predicable and mostly irrelevant! Asks the same stupid questions that no one cares about!

According to what he said on his own show tonight, he is NOT leaving CNN. He will stop doing his nightly shows and do occasional specials for CNN.

I agree with all CNN said except compassion. Larry showed NO compassion many times. The worst is when he outed Marie's Osmond CHILD that was in rehab. Marie had kept that private to protect him. 2 years later her son killed himself. Larry should leave KIDS alone. It was his mom that was famous and she was on Larry' show to discuss her career moves not her child.

Have your fun with the uninformed and ignorant comments about Larry King. Yes, of course it's time for him to go but cannot you not realize what a great interviewer he was. Just read some of his accomplishments above. Amazing how some people focus on the right now but not give credit for the past work.
