Maria Conchita Alonso Upset Over Oliver Stone's Shitty New Film
Actress and singer Maria Conchita Alonso is pissed. And this time it's not at Sean Penn.
Maria Conchita is speaking out against filmmaker Oliver Stone's twisted portrayal of dictator Hugo Chavez as a "fun-loving, good guy" in the new flick South of the Border.
So Alonso has teamed up with Central and South American Community officials to make their own movie, Crossing Our Borders, which will cover the issues Oliver omitted.
A rep for the activists reveals:
"Missing from the light-hearted moments of a dictator (Chavez) riding a bike are the questioning of the alarming and growing rates of poverty, kidnapping and murder.
We want to know who financed Mr. Stone's film, why did he refuse to interview everyday Venezuelans about their lives under this brutally oppressive regime and why would Mr. Stone use his influence and art to sell a dictator who has dissolved parliament and jailed judges for ruling against his illegal activities?"

And Alonso isn't stopping there, she's even challenging Stone to a public debate! Says Alonso:
"Oliver Stone is a gifted storyteller who has lent his considerable prowess to crafting a cinematic lie.
Why not tell the truth about the conditions in Venezuela, where the middle class has shrunk from a third to five per cent, kidnapping has risen to the top five in the world and murder rates are higher than in Baghdad resulting from pillaged oil wealth, increased drug running and exportation of political unrest?
Oliver Stone has become Hugo Chavez's Minister of Propaganda."
And when Stone's movie opens this Friday in Santa Monica, Alonso and other activists will be on hand protesting and hopefully making their way to the question and answer section after the flick.
Let's see what Stone can come up with to justify his false portrayal of Chavez and Venezuela.

Oliver Stone is pointing out that America kills people in Central and South America in the name of defending against Communism.
South American (and all Latin American countries for the most part) have been the bitch of the USA(through the CIA) for most of the 1900's…why is it that with all the natural resources most of these countries have, the vast majority of the populations have only known abject poverty. Could it be because they were mostly all military dictatorships (right wing) supported by the US(through the CIA and other US agencies)? The right wing nutters in Miami that "escaped" Cuba during the Cuban revolution were mostly part of the former ruling class that took a dump on their com-padres to keep rich and in the ruling class but when someone creates a revolution to distribute the wealth, they are suddenly "down" with the poor peasants…please tell it to someone who doesn't read (like most Perez followers)…
Chavez was democratically elected, more than can be said for most of the corrupt leaders from this country in the past. I have talked to many ordinary citizens who actually live there…not ones that "escaped" with millions of stolen money to the US…they are more than happy…health care has improved (thanks in part to Cuban help), the US and European oil companies who raped the country for years are not nationalized and the wealth is being distributed…

Chavez seized control over a Polar beer distribution center about 8 weeks ago "just because he can" and put a few hundred people out of work after closing it. Chavez starves his own people so he can pay the national debts for Argentina, Bolivia and Ecudaor. So the governments in those countries are indebted to him. Bono, Stone, Obama, can all go live there and leave the rest of us to return the U.S. to the glory it once was… but without the hyerpbole and doublespeak. I look forward to her movie.
The truth is that the Human Development Index - a United Nations statistic based on life expectancy, education, and per capita GDP - has Venezuela as increasing in all 3 areas since Chavez was elected. In terms of human development, Venezuela has gone up more since Chavez than in the 40 years prior to Chavez's government.
I don't understand why human beings cannot differ in opinions without flat out lying to support their opinion. This woman does not like Chavez's government? Fine, it's her right. I do like his government, fine, it's my right.
But I won't tell lies to people, hoping they won't bother to research my statements and so will believe me. I wish both Perez Hilton, whoever he is, and this Maria Conchita woman, would do the same.
The fact is, poverty is not increasing in Venezuela according to UN statistics.
As a personal aside - Oliver Stone is a great director, I'm looking very much forward to the film.

ok let me tell you something… chavez is the worst president, he will never talk the real problems in my country, day by day people dying in hands of insecurity, the food is regulated by the govern and this food are decaying, we have an oil spill too and the government seeks a guilty but does not seek a solution, chavez always persecutes political opponents and all the journalists who tell the truth, and Maria Conchita says is true, and who feels different, I make an invitation to Venezuela, to do with how lucky can run.

There's nothing that bothers me more than people defending something they don't know. To all of those who defend the scam that's Chavez goverment I would recommend: Go There and live for a while like a simple citizen and then, we'll talk. I'm venezuelan, and it's true, Chavez was elected.. and then "re-elected" 1000 times (please note that Chavez controls ALL of the powers and The electoral power is one of them, did you know that in my country the elections are electronic and votes are not count by hand one by one, but that the counting is done on a "randomly" selected boxes, and that even the elections are electronic it takes hours or even weeks to release the oficial results? and in other countries where elections are manual and with twice the population my country has, results are released maybe an hour or two after election is over) but democracy is not just about being "elected" is much more and Chavez does not behaves as a democrat, is as simple as that. People is put in jail just because they are against the regimen, and they are accused of being terrorist, conspirators and traitors. I could list thousands of reasons on why Chavez is technically a dictator. But this President does not respect venezuelans who differ from him. I will like to recommend you read about the cases of Oswaldo Alvarez Paz, Maria Afiuni, Richard Blanco, Ivan Simonovis, Lazaro Forero, and many others… who have been incarcerated because they expressed themselves against Chavez.
