But it was less than expected!

As we previously mentioned, Andy Warhol's portrait of Elizabeth Taylor, entitled Silver Liz, was auctioned off at Christie's on Wednesday.

The 1963 silkscreen sold to for just over the low end of its estimate, a measly $10.1 million. Although, it was the only post-war work to garner over $10 million.

At least that's something.

Psh, I don't see what's so particularly valuable about this. People are such fools for a name.

Personally, I think that $10.1 million is not measly, nor do I think that this ugly painting is worth that. I guess people with a lot of money feel the need to waste it on useless crap.

Re: catlover – Exactly! It's sad to think of all those in need, meanwhile, super-rich assholes are spending millions on pop art.

    Post war work, what?

If that sold for 10 million, I have some stuff my 4 year old scribbled on that's comparable in quality.

Very nice artpiece. xD Too much in cost, though. :[

As an Art School Graduate, ANDY WARHOL PISSES ME OFF TO NO END. Nothing he ever "created" is worth 10 dollars, much less 10 million. He just takes pictures of beautiful actresses like Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe and screws them up. Hell I know my artwork is crap too but I'm not trying to pass it off as avant-garde genius. Uggggh. Pop art makes me rage. Since when did recoloring an image using 80's style day-glo paint make you brilliant? All Jackson Pollock did was fling paint and he's another so called artistic mastermind who's paintings that could have been done by a four year old with a ketchup bottle full of paint could have done… sell for millions too. Why are people wasting money on stupid crap like this when there are children dying of starvation and a glob of oil in the Gulf?

I don't get why Andy Warhol paintings are worth so much they look like crap. I wouldn't hang one in my home.

In this rotten economy I'm surprised it sold at all.
