Ricky Gervais Agrees With Steve Carell's Decision To Leave The Office

| Filed under: TV NewsSteve CarellRicky Gervais

Ricky Gervais, the creator of The Office, thinks that Steve Carell made the right decision to leave The Office after next season.

He explains:

"It was of course inevitable (and sad), but I wish him all the luck in the world. He is quite possibly the nicest, hardest working man in America and it has been a joy working with him over the last six years. (And taking the piss out of him at every award show.)

It was expected of me, as executive producer, to persuade him to stay on. With syndication in full swing the more successful the show remains, the more billions we all make. It was tempting, but the truth is, I believe he is doing the right thing. He's fulfilled his contract and more, and is a huge film star now. (I knocked it on the head after 12 episodes and a Christmas special.)

I'd be lying if I said he should do more. He shouldn't. He should move on, continue to do great work, and buy a new house every time The Office is repeated somewhere. (That's what I do. Maybe I'll buy one next door to him one day. That'll f–king teach him.) Good luck Steve."

We wish you luck, too, Steve!

How tactful. Thing is, Steve Carell is not the best thing about The Office. Truly an ensemble piece. They were doing just find with Idris Elba and Jim as far as I'm concerned. CHANGE IS GOOD. Good riddance Stevie, baby, go on and keep makin those lame-o pictures of yours!

Ricky definitly has class, and is able to separate life from $$$. For most people in his position, it wouldn't matter how rich they already are….they still want more more more. :-)

There are people starving in the world and Gervais is this crass about his exorbitant income. Fame sucks the humanity out of so many people.

Honestly, this is like stars that leave SNL. I mean aside from a few heavy weights. People who left that show with the intention of making it big for the most part fell flat on their ass. And as much as I think steve carell is funny at some points, he got lucky with this and some of the recent cult classics he made with 40 year old virgin and the such, after he left the daily show with Jon Stewart. He really is pushing his buttons by thinking he's more special than his 15 minutes.

I never cared for that show with either of them. I tried but just didn't like it.
