Prince vs. The Internet

While being interviewed by The Mirror, Prince discussed the future of the internet.
Considering he has banned his music on iTunes and YouTube, it should not come as a surprise that Prince is giving away his new album 20TEN to readers of The Mirror on CD.
The singer said:
"You must come and listen to the album. I hope you like it. It's great that it will be free to readers of your newspaper. I really believe in finding new ways to distribute my music.
The internet's completely over. I don't see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won't pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can't get it.
The internet's like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good.
They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you."
Everything Prince says is true. The internet is over! Ha.

Prince has lost it. What the fuck has happened to him?
I think Prince is the prettiest white woman in America.
lol
which means your screwed c:
They might not give him an advance for it, but wouldn't he get a percentage of the downloads? Just think of itunes as the record company, and negotiate the %.
Someone enlighten me here.
The most beautiful girl in the world!! Always thought that from day one and still do!! 46 bg
lol prince is a retard
Re: @v@ –
in reality, artists get about half a cent per album sold. they make all their profits from shows and tours. this is why the "don't illegally download!" campaign totally failed. every artist either didn't give a shit, because they weren't losing much money, or thought it was a good thing because those who listen to the downloaded music would be more inclined to attend their shows.
this is why prince doesn't really care about giving his music to itunes - he's not going to make that much off of it anyway.
And THAT attitude he has right THERE is the VERY reason no one would BUY his sh*t on iTunes, etc…anyway… He's WAY past his prime…and WAY too full of himself!!!
oh prince. you are so, so wrong. every industry and every business now relies on the internet for mass communication, transactions, and even conferences. more and more companies are saving money by performing duties online rather than in person, or over the phone.
the internet is here to stay.
umm
somebody please wheel him back to the old folk's home
Obnoxious Joe - What happened to him? If Kevin Smith is to be believed, he's gone Jehovah's Witness. Ie. Crazy batshit biblethumper. So he's even worse than he was BEFORE The Jebus.
Gee, what a visionary. NOT! You would think he would welcome the internet since he didn't want to be a "Slave" to the record companies.
perez that means your over(:
Re: Ruby Dee – It was a rhetorical question. I know about the Jehova's Witness thing.
I wished the internet was over. its fucking negative place and PRINCE IS THE BEST ARTIST EVER. I met him backstage (I'm a performer) and hes so SHY and quiet, plus his views on life are very smart, hes a very smart man. Love Prince ! I never liked him until I learned who he was. He's the best of the best.
Guess you are on your way out then, Perez. At least your lack of advertising is confirming that general idea and Prince, in a roundabout way, is backing up the theory!
ROFLMAO! I still luv ya 2 the 9's as a fan, your Royal Badness, even when you sound like a bit of a rube. Thanks for the laugh!
Well, well, he is a great performer but he's not a visionary. This statement will haunt him the remainder of his life.
Re: starofdawn – Thanks. That's really crummy coin, considering. I do remember when the developers of mp3's were trying to sell their technology, and the music industry passed, not realizing the ramifications. I guess Prince could offer his albums for sale/download on his own site and get it all. That's probably already happening somewhere, I haven't checked. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. He's such an incredible performer live with his entourage that if anyone could make big coin touring, he could. That's quite the contrast from not long ago when groups would put albums out and not bother to tour.
Well hes right about MTV…..
lol people be thinking prince is crazy but he really knows what he is talking about
Lord no, he did not just make that statement……………………………..
Re: star_brite – Absolutely. MTV is in a sorry state.
he seems like he's good in bed.
Re: justme09 – Why do you agree with Prince, and why do you think he said the internet's completely over?
Prince is soooo overrated as an artist. He looks like a prepubescent girl, and most of his music is annoying at best. He is ridiculous. I don't know why people are so enamored of him. He's as weird as Michael Jackson…well almost…but then again, so many think he was the greatest thing to hit pop. Which is BS too.
Re: @v@ – im not in the music business so i dont completely know how that goes but i know companies like itunes tend to rip artist off
he always tends to stay two steps ahead
so its prolly some shady things going down he knows about and others don't
i dont know what he means when he says the internet is dead tho
but im quite positive all this makes plenty of sense to him
thats all i was sayin
Why in the Hell would Prince need iTunes to pay him in advance? Is he struggling financially? Does he honestly think that he's earning MORE money by banning the sale of his tunes via a major market? He just cut off his nose to spite his face….
Prince has been over for a long time. The internet however is still as popular as ever. He is talented but an overrated talent.
This eccentric old woman needs to retire.
Re: starofdawn – but back then people were buying the albums and the artist's concerts were sold out too. But the concert tickets were not that much back then but then again living expenses was less too. I think people are not buying the albums because the music is not that good and worth the money. and the ones that buy it or the same that go to the concerts which is not a lot of ppl if u think about it.
Re: A Voice of Sanity – why he is actually making music.
what a fucking MORON this JOKE is !
Prince, FYI, the internet's NOT completely over, YOU ARE!
Sometimes I wish the internet was completely over!!!! I love Prince ;*
The Jehovah’s Witnesses has instilled all kinds of nonsense in his head. Why do our celebrities get mixed up in theses apocalyptic cults?
Prince, I love you, but you have get with the times. The internet can be very useful for communicating, marketing (i guess), and well a lot of other stuff. I wish he would give it a chance.
And Prince, c'mon, nobody says "hip" anymore. lol.
Re: Blueskies18 – How is Prince overrated? He's an amazing artist, and musician, one of the best of our time. He's underrated if you asked me.
Prince is one of the very few artists i know that fully creates 100% of his music. Not only writing all his own songs but playing every instrument on it. although i dont believe the internet is dead it has ruined music to a degree. Its making certain artists with horrible songs that are most downloaded seem like superstars when their music is crap but just because its played on the radio the most its #1 on itunes. (kesha). He is also one of the first artists to actually use the internet to his advantaged by distrbuting his music online well before downloading and the internet became popular. He is truly an artist who appreciate his fans by giving them exclusive concerts and letting them sample his music first. So if he doesnt want his music to be ruined along with other "trends" he owns all of his music and takes charge of his own career so let him do it.
OK…let me explain to guys what he means….Itunes pretty much get mosty a % of the music…which means of they sell a song just using the old 99cent formula…Itunes gets 34 cents & the record company gets 55 cents…not the artist the record company…Prince went to them in the sense of if you want to sell my stuff, you are going to have to give me more than that…the bottom line he would make more money putting them in magazines & newspapers, then selling them on Itunes or whatever other media there is….his last album, Prince was getting about $3.00-4.00 off of each record sold & the album sold more than 400,000 plus…so you do the math, so i guess in terms of selling music it is dead….
