"My Hope Chest is an important non-profit organization focusing on the need of breast reconstruction for uninsured and underprivileged women. As the only nonprofit of its kind, focusing solely on this reconstruction, we believe that this surgery is truly “the final step in breast cancer treatment”. By enabling women who desire reconstruction to have it, My Hope Chests’ goal is to return these deserving women to a normal life with feelings of “hope”, self-worth and completeness."

If they test on animals, they'll not a penny.

Re: tulipwalk – They don't fund research, they fund surgeries.

This is a SCAM! All the money goes for OUTRAGEOUS SALARIES for the staff while they search for doctors that will do the surgery for free. If a woman is chosen she must give permission to release her medical records & photo to the world for them to use as they see fit. Most women WILL NOT QUALIFY and pass their ABSOLUTELY INSANE STIPULATIONS

wow, if that's true, perez really should not be promoting this charity

it just goes to show that you need to research charities before you go ahead and throw money at them.

at least perez is trying to do something good for women with breast cancer, instead of just promoting all his gay causes constantly.

my mom just had breast reconstruction surgery two weeks ago…it was crazy. she had the tram flap surgery, where they use your own tissue to reconstruct.
what an operation and recovery process.
in my opinion, a mastectomy is enough surgery to handle. leave it at that if you are older and you don't really truly care so much anymore. don't put yourself through all that hell. my mom certainly regrets it. not that it went badly, as she had an amazing doctor. but the recovery is hell.

@Pam's Silicone Breast How do you know this? Were you an applicant of My Hope Chest? All the staff I know of theirs is volunteer basis only. No salaries at all that I have seen.

Who on earth is Pam's Silicone Breast??? This is the most uneducated and negative attitude I have ever read.

I'm a volunteer with the group and can tell you for a fact that My Hope Chest does not have a paid staff. All personnel working with the foundation are NOT paid. The founder has begged, borrowed, and refinanced everything possible to make this dream come true.

The qualification process is reasonable and correct. As a matter of the fact, the waiting list for surgeries grows exponentially every day. The more women find out about the foundation, the more the need grows for financial assistance.

As for the doctors that are performing free surgeries, they are few and far between. That is our biggest hurdle. Relationships are being created and commitments given, but a doctor is getting on board to do ONE or TWO surgeries a year from what I have heard, and not any number near what is really needed. We need more doctors willing to give of themselves.

One such organization came forward in New Orleans LA, the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery. They have agreed to take one or two of our patients per year. We are excited to be working with Drs. DellaCroce, Sullivan, and Trahan. They are great people that are stepping up to help!

So consider the steps that you can take to help My Hope Chest give Cancer Survivors a chance to get their life back. Pam has no clue!
