J. Lo Cancels Performance In Northern Cyprus
Smart move. Whoever made this decision to begin with should be fired!
Jennifer Lopez was scheduled to perform in Turkish-occupied Northern Cyprus later this month. The problem is that particular part of the world is not recognized by either the United Nations or the European Union because it is currently occupied illegally by the Turkish military.
As it is not recognized as an independent sovereign state, multiple Greek and Cypriot politicians were furious to hear claims that Lopez had agreed to perform at a swanky hotel in Northern Cyprus on July 24.
But never fear Euro-cratics! J. Lo is not going ANYWHERE near Cyprus. Her rep cleared things up, saying:
"Jennifer Lopez would never knowingly support any state, country, institution or regime that was associated with any form of human rights abuse. After a full review of the relevant circumstances in Cyprus, it was the decision of management to withdraw from the appearance. This was a team decision that reflects our sensitivity to the political realities of the region."
Seriously, Jen. Were profits from The Back-Up Plan so bad that you promised to play concerts ANYWHERE?! Next time, have your promoters do their research.

My home land of Cyprus was viciously and caliously invaded in 1974 by the Turkish Military trying to claim rights to northern Cyprus. As you may or may not know, for centuries the Orthodox Greeks inhabited the island, as such the name Cyprus is even Greek. Unfortunately Turkey still lives under the guise and dark days of the Ottoman Empire which was about Ethniic Cleansing, Turkification and EXPANSIONISM. Turkey's military viciously threw the Christian population out of their homes and moved us to the southern part of our beloved Cyprus. To this day, we have to ask for special permission to pray at our ancient monastaries on the northern side of the Island during the Easter festivities. Our families, children were treated poorly by the Turkish Military, reports of rape and murder were rampant on our population of Greek, Armenian and Assyrian Christians who have ALL inhabited this island long before the brutal occupation of the Ottoman Empire.

you guys are racist! Cyprus has been under turkish rules for many many years they speak the same language and have the same traditions. Turkey gives a lot of money to them and lets them rule themselves. Unlike USA, they are not there against the people's wishes. USA occupies many lands and so does ISrael. Souther cyprus might be an independent country but it has a whole different culture. Uniting them would take the turkish cypriots' rights away. they will have to be ruled by people with different language, different religon and even different traditions. Cypriots should have a say in this, and if you do a little research they voted for staying with the turkish government.

If the North of Cyprus is 'illegally occupied', then the South is equally illegally occupied by the Greeks. Although North Cyprus may not be recognised on it's own, the whole of Cyprus is recognised, how does this make only the South a recognised place?
Cyprus was a mixed island of both Turks people and Greeks until the Greeks got a too greedy and decided to TRY to take over the whole of Cyprus. They were unsuccessful thanks to the Turkish Army of Ataturk who showed the Greeks what was what. It was settled that the Turks would occupy the North while the Greeks occupied the South. The country has developed a lot and get on a lot better. The barriers between the two sides has been lifted. Again, if you done enough research you'd learn that it was the Greeks who recently opposed to the two sides being reunited and making peace. Does this not show the pettiness of the Greeks who are obviously holding a grudge over the fact that they didn't win the war they started in 1974? Further pettiness to support this is the fact that they made an issue over JLO performing on the North side… (to be continued)

If you want a country to slate I suggest you google 'Kurdistan'. An actual unrecognised place which seems to exist in the mountains by a billboard despite all the kurds in the world claiming that it is a genuine country.
North Cyprus is a traditional Turkish Cypriot part of Cyprus and is very successful. The beaches are the best in Cyprus and the scenery is better than that of the South. North Cyprus has it's own airlines and thriving tourist businesses- not bad for 'illegally occupied' right? The Greeks obviously can't handle the North gaining any positive publicity.

Seriously, UN should review the history books they teach in Turkey because they're so deluded it's outrageous.
No one seems to comment on the fact that in 2004 a referendum was held on both sides, with the Northern Turkish cypriot side voting yes and the southern greek cypriot side voting no for the re-unification of the island. In any case the leaders from both sides are working on the issue, as is the EU together with Turkey. For instance, by the end of the year it is likely that trade to northern Cyprus from the EU will be opened, the legislation is in the EU Parliament right now.
Also, as an American, please refrain from commenting on human rights violations and illegal occupations, since we know that the US pioneers both fields.

Frankly this is the best publicty the country could have for both sides & a topic the world should have facts on before they make racist comments toward the Turkish Cypriots & mainland turks. Its fact the greeks were commiting genocide to the turks who were living together in cyprus for many many years. The english also occupied the island & were unable to save the turks & used the sitaution to their advantage. The english drew the green line which devides the island not the turks or the greeks. Thats a fact. Turkey came to the rescue of the turksih cypriots when bloodshed was at its peak. I dont need history to tell me this as my father was in the war. Turkey to come to their rescue before they were wiped out. Turkey is the sole saviour of the turksih cypriots. They will not leave us exposed again, not until there is peace. Northern Cyprus wants unification & voted YES in the recent referendum but it was Southern Cyprus - the Greeks who voted NO. This was a public vote so there you go. Get your facts right before you make racist comments. As for Jlo she only pulled out because of the drama, she couldnt care less about the issues of the island. Perez, I suggest before you make any unknowledgeable claims, know your history. Northern Cyprus is "occupied" by the Turkish army because the Turkish people living on the island for hundreds of years (Since the Ottoman Empire) were being killed, therefore NEEDED the Turkish army to defend themselves.
