South Pacific Back On The Big Screen

| Filed under: Broadway BabiesFilm Flickers

We could get behind this. The producers seem to have good ideas.

A film remake of the Rogers & Hammerstein classic South Pacific is in the works, with a "tough, more realistic retelling" for modern audiences.

The producers realize what a beautiful story and score the classic musical has, but are hoping to make the new flick grittier to appeal to the new audience. The show is about World War II after all! The producers explain:

"Producing a new version of South Pacific allows an audience to explore war and racism in a safe and engaging way that will ultimately bring greater understanding to these important topics of our time."

It really is a beautiful story, one we'd love to see reimagined.

We just have one note on casting - Matthew Morrison!

Don't argue with us! The man KILLED in it while he was at Lincoln Center and the revenue alone from Glee fans filtering into theaters to see this would take care of at least half the movie's budget.

What happened to the remake they did in 2001?

Producing a new version of South Pacific only proves that today's talent pool couldn't find their ass with both hands. Stop riding on the coattails of people who had good ideas and new how to put them into action. Does NO ONE have an original thought?

Oh great! A politically correct South Pacific, PUKE! The only people who will watch this are Berkeleytards and old tired hippies.

Morrison was great in NY - on stage. But on film, the fact he's too old for the character would be too obvious. OK idea to refilm it, but "reimagining" it sounds scary.

    Re: Hate Low Class People
Actually, you be surprised how many berkleytards would rather get loaded and smash a store front window instead of watching this tired retread musical crap.
