JLo Faces $40 Million Lawsuit For Cancelling Her Show

jlowenn5426362__opt.jpg

As we mentioned last week, Jennifer Lopez was scheduled to perform in Turkish-occupied Northern Cyprus later this month.

However, her people cancelled the gig after some negative press began to circulate.

Turns out that area is neither recognized by either the United Nations or the European Union because it is currently occupied illegally by the Turkish military. Her people soon after cancelled the gig.

However, the hotel which booked her isn’t too pleased and has threatened the singer with a 40 million dollar lawsuit for cancelling her concert for “political” reasons!

Though they’re giving her a chance to change her mind and still perform. The hotel and casino’s rep stated:

"The contract has not been terminated. If she does not show up for the concert, we will begin a procedure in the courts to claim 35-40 million dollars in damages. The cancellation….is not covered by any clause in the contract she signed with us.”

The concert, which lands on JLo’s 41st birthday, is set to take place on July 24th.

Let’s see what her people decide to do.

      first?

Since no international organization recognizes this place as an actual country, then there's no legal jurisdiction in this. They can file suit in their own country but it's meaningless. She just can't go back there which I'm sure she's really upset about.

hahaha nobody gets that much money from a broken contract. Typical Turkish bullies, they always get their way with threats.
      Fuck them.

    5. 5

J Who? Now this is absurd JLO wouldn't have made $40 Million on a tour let alone a show!

    6. 6

Turks are pigs. Give back the land and beat it!

    7. 7

You would have to pay me 40 million to sit thru one of her concerts! She wasn't even aware of the political situation and had to be TOLD there was an issue. Moron.

Jennifer did the right thing. She however should fire her manager who got her into this! He should have done his research first. How could he make such a big mistake and book an even in an area that is been under illegal occupation for 36 years? I'm glad they changed their mind after doing their research.

Also, Jennifer would definitely win this case if they do proceed with it. Apart from the fact that that part of the island is under ILLEGAL occupation ( and a pseudo-state ONLY recognised by Turkey), the hotel is also based on stolen land. The legal owner is a Greek Cypriot refugee.

Jennifer should stick with her decision, no one should support an illegal occupation and her as a famous celebrity and an idol for many people should be against it.

I know this is not the importat part of the story, but…. She's 41? WOW.

Re: NECON – Had she done her research, she wouldn't be in this predicament in the first place. All they saw was a $3 million dollar payday. That's her manager, Benny Medina, in this photo. All he wants is the biggest payday possible. She can be sued for breach of contract if she ditches this gig. Hate to say it, but they're right.

Next time, read the fine print before you sign.

J-Lo is no rube. If her standard contract doesn't cover cancellation, she needs a better contract.

    23. 23

Is that Benny Medina standing next to her?

    24. 24

Well..I am from Cyprus!!In the summer of 1974, Turkish troops invaded and occupied more than a third of the territory of the Republic of Cyprus. Turkey launched a full-scale military invasion of the island in 1974. The Turkish air force bombing on Cyprus! So now the Republic of Cyprus is partitioned into two main parts, the area under the effective control of the Republic of Cyprus, comprising about 59% of the island's area and the Turkish-occupied area in the north, calling itself the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, covering about 37% of the island's area and recognized only by Turkey!!!!!!There are 1619 missing persons, our relatives. This number includes not only soldiers, but also a large number of civilians and among them women and children, who disappeared consequent to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974. These missing Greek Cypriots were arrested by the Turkish army and/or by Turkish Cypriots under the control and command of Turkey's armed forces. Subsequent to their arrest, a number of them were transported to Turkey and were kept as prisoners in Turkish jails. Since 1974, despite our appeals to the Turkish Government and to other International Organizations, and contrary to International Law and Human Rights Conventions, Turkey refuses to provide us with any information about the fate of our loved ones.

    25. 25

180,000 Greek Cypriots were evicted from their homes in the north. So many women, even young girls rapped and killed.. Mothers died with the sorrow without knowing if their loved ones were alive or not! I am 22 and i visited for the FIRST time the other half my country 6 years ago and with a PASSPORT, in my OWN COUNTRY??!!!We understand that she didnt know know what is happening to our country and we are glad that she will not go anymore. Shame on the hotel that is suing her,its not even their property!! And i hope her team will search first.. and pls im not a racist and i dont hate Turkish people.. i just say facts..

    26. 26
