LA District Attorney Still Seeking Polanski's Extradition

We have no idea why the Swiss are keeping him!

District Attorney Steve Cooley is pissed that Switzerland will not release Roman Polanski to California for sentencing, but if he is arrested anywhere else, extradition is imminent.

Cooley said:

“I am deeply disappointed that the Swiss authorities denied the request to extradite Roman Polanski. Our office complied fully with all of the factual and legal requirements of the extradition treaty and requests by the U.S. and Swiss Departments of Justice and State.

We will discuss with the Department of Justice the extradition of Roman Polanski if he’s arrested in a cooperative jurisdiction.

“We only formally request when we are notified by a government that the fugitive is in their country. The request was filed immediately by this office after the Swiss notified us of Polanski’s expected arrival at the Zurich film festival in September 2009.”

Failure to extradite Polanski is a “disservice to justice and other victims as a whole. To justify their finding to deny extradition on an issue that is unique to California law regarding conditional examination of a potentially unavailable witness is a rejection of the competency of the California courts. The Swiss could not have found a smaller hook on which to hang their hat.”

Sad. So much for justice!

GIVE IT UP ALREADY!!!! The victim HERSELF wants nothing to do with it! Why is everyone trying to make these people relive something that happened 30 some years ago? Just let the dude live out his last days in peace. LA District Attorney Steve Cooley should be doing something BETTER with his time! All he wants to do is become famous for being the one to reel in Polanski. Sorry pal - not going to happen!!

WTF - do all of you fuckers out in LA want to be famous? GET OVER IT!

  2. 2

Get over it. It's always been way too grey. Pretzel, get pack to posting about your underage boys.

  3. 3

    Why? Why? Why?

The girl who was abused has moved on. Why does the justice system need to constantly bring up a dead issue. I'm not saying what he did was OK. I think they should have killed him when they had the chance, but now, the only person being hurt is the woman he abused.

    Let it go.

  4. 4

this piece of shit used his status to rape a 13 year old girl, he fucking sodomized her, SHE WAS 13. It doesn't matter if the victim wants it dropped, this fucker is a pedophile who needs to do his time.

Note to the US: US LAWS ARE NOT SUPREME LAWS OF THE ENTIRE WORLD. And really LA Prosecutors, getting Roman Polanski 30 years later still won't make up for OJ.

  6. 6

Good! Better yet, send our Navy Seals go over and have them take the pedophile in the dark of night and fly him out of the country back to be prosecuted for his pedophilia.

No more sad than the country (countries) that had no extradition agreements with the United States before now …

Sure, I understand the idea that an early teen person can be inappropriately sexual with someone who is out of their morally/legally correct age range and we will never know exactly what happened at that house - but that doesn't excuse the fact that no matter how slutty a 13 or 14 or 15 year old may be, we are NOT allowed to fuck them.

    Not ever.

Polanski lost. He even double lost when he stuck it in her ass. Or maybe he kinda lost/won/lost.

    …. lol.

    Bad Switzerland. No Riccola.

  8. 8

It was 30 YEARS AGO!!! Give it a rest! Leave the poor guy alone….people are so f*cked up in America. Everyone is looking for a lawsuit. If she had a problem with it, she should have said something when it happened.

  9. 9

LA's got bigger problems that some 76 year old perv. Let the Swiss keep him and if he tries to return to the US, arrest him then. Enough money has been thrown away on this creep.

  10. 10

Absolutely ridiculous! Why not concentrates on terrorists in our country instead?????

  11. 11

Sushilover - R U Serious? "The rape victim recovered over the course of a couple of decades so the perp's actions ought to be overlooked."

WTF ever. If someone abused your child's trust …. no matter how long ago … are you the kind of person who'd let them walk because they had the cash to live abroad for 20 or 30 years? Not me.

    Never.

    Hang em high.

  12. 12

SWISS WERE PAID OFF. NEUTRALITY HAS A PRICE. IMMA SURE THE NAZI'S FUNNELED $HIT THE SAME WAY. NOW WE KNOW WHICH COUNTRY POLANSKI WILL TAKE REFUGE. SMFH.

  13. 13

Re: nekkedchickens – I was sexually abused. I know what it means to move on. If I had to read in the news every day about my abuser, it would suck.

I'm now saying he's suffered enough. Like I said, they should have killed him when they had the chance. My comments are in the best interest of the abused.

    YOU FUCKING IDIOT!

  14. 14

    Correction: She's suffered enough.

This is an issue that I identify with too closely.

  15. 15

It's time to focus on more important issues. Roman Polanski had inappropriate sexual contact with a minor. He didn't commit murder. He didn't steal anything. It's time to let it go. I, myself personally, think Roman Polanski needs to be forgiven. He actually paid a price for this crime before. Now its time to move on.

Re: Hate Low Class People – Go take him in the dark of night you write: Isn't this what Stalin or Hitler used to do ? Have you become a fascist country ?

    17

Re: shittin_condoms – He committed one act and served 42 days in jail. Hundreds, if not thousands of priests across the USA raped thousands of boys multiple times. Has any one of them served any time in jail? Then there is Cardinal Mahoney who kept all of the perpetrators hidden from the law for decades. The Los Angeles DA should concentrate on him. Oh wait, yeah, Cooley has REFUSED to prosecute the Catholic rapists and their protectors…

  18. 18

Why is it that when it is another child molester people always say that "the perv is likely going to rape another child" but for this guy it is like "It has been thirty years get over it".

  19. 19

….enough….time to move on…the LA prosecutor failed on this…the FEDS won with getting to know everyone's banking records in that country…isn't that enough?…one peedo for all that tax money?….this is just smoke and mirrors….

  20. 20

    Yeah for the Swiss!
California has tried a cover up and the Swiss saw through it!
(And Perez, stop trying to make us believe you really care about this case - or the victim.)

  21. 21

    Re: WearieRabbit
Because he didn't have sexual intercourse with another minor since then.

  22. 22

The LA prosecutors would NOT supply the Swiss with the requested transcripts of the meetings in Judge's chambers where he explained to Polanski and his attorneys that the time Polanski would serve in the mental health evaluation facility would be the ONLY time he would have to serve. They wouldn't supply it because, as the Swiss pointed it, to supply the transcript would be to admit that he served the agreed to sentence and thus they have no legal jurisdiction to extradite him for a new trial with a new judge. The LA court system was corrupt then and it is corrupt now.

  23. 23

I can not believe I share air with some of you! A child was victimized, we know who did it- and what- just because it happend 30 years ago we are supposed to "leave the poor guy alone" (stella rose)??? What if this was YOUR child? What if he did it to ANOTHER child? Do we send the message that money and fame mean that you don't have to pay for the crimes you commit in America? Or, give it enough time hiding out in luxury that we will let it slip under the rug??? This is not a case of stealing some over-priced shwag from Neiman's- this is not a victimless crime. We owe it to rape victims to try and protect them- as well as punish those who have violated them and let it be known that this behavior will NEVER be tolerated- by anyone- under any circumstances. Until we defend all women (including female children) and their rights (afterall they are half of the world's population!!!) we can never truly call ourselves a GREAT country- or a great race.

  24. 24

    Re: moxiecrimefighter – I agree 100%.

  25. 25

Too bad LA County can't use the MILLION it's spending on this worthless case to SAVE THE LITTLE GIRLS BEING ABUSED RIGHT NOW on Los Angeles streets!

  26. 26

Geez, give it up Mario. Why you even care? Geez, there are other interesting gossip out there than Polanski's drama. This start to become boring. The more you bitching about it, the more I take Polanski side. More power to him!

  27. 27

Yes it does matter that the victim want it drop. After all, she didn't get aids. Now let us move on PLEASE!!!

  28. 28

Roman Polanski received 90 days in jail for this crime, a crime that he pled guilty to. He served 42 days, and what was at issue between the prosecutor and the judge in the case, was whether or not he should serve the rest of the 90 days. That's when he fled and has been a fugitive ever since. He is a free man now, free that is in France, Poland and Switzerland. The Swiss extradite people all the time, in fact they refuse extradition in only 5% of the cases. So why here? Polanski is still a fugitive!

Re: Maggielii6 – Every young girl needs the protection of her parents first of all. What kind of a mother would leave her 13 year-old at the home of a movie director, much older, and known as somewhat strange ? If you absolutely want to find a guilty person, look at that victim's parents. THEY should go to jail. Mr. Polanski had gone through the trauma of losing his wife and unborn child, he was not in a normal state of mind at the time. If you are a Christian - which I suspect you are - find it in your heart to forget and forgive.

  30. 30

Enough already. The victim herself has stated she wants nothing to do with it.
    -
Jesus, there are FAR more things to spend tax dollars on that this old b.s.

  31. 31

Too bad this vile pig will never be brought to justice.

  32. 32

You better watch what you print, Porky, you're only one more child pornography incident away from renting a room from Polanski.

  33. 33

Hmph. I will NEVER watch a Polanski film. EVER.
