Deadliest Catch Crushes The Hills Finale In The Ratings

Tuesday night viewers were tuning in to the Discovery Channel series Deadliest Catch rather than watching the highly anticipated Hills series finale.
Deadliest Catch drew in a record 8.55 million viewers, shattering its all-time record of 7.9 million, while The Hills drew in a mere - by comparison - 3.0 million viewers.
It seems people were over the latest dramz going down on The Hills and more interested in Captain Phil Harris' final episode.

I had never watched "Deadliest Catch" before and I USE TO watch The HIlls but I watched the Deadliest Catch episode because I respected the Captain who wanted everything recorded right down to his stroke. Even though I know they wouldn't show that, I respected the man for still attempting to stay REAL unlike others………
I'm glad I watched Deadliest Catch. I just wished I watched this before the Captain's death and not the plastic, fake, rich girl "drama" hills.

I told you to do your research, there are better things to watch than these empty reality shows - although DC edits its episodes to create intrigue and drama, these people are still way more real than anything HWs, Hills, etc. could ever contribute…and Captain Phil Harris was my favorite captain, and always will be…

Captain Phil knew what it was like to earn a real dollar. He worked hard and played hard and he loved his family that included his fans. Those of us who get up and work everyday could respect that and we love and respected Phil. We miss you Phil the same can not be said of the Hills.

That "one dead guy" just so happens to be the best crab fisherman EVER!! He also happens to be a father, and a friend to many. That "one dead guy" will never have the chance to meet his future grandchildren or watch his sons get married. What you said is disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself. Capt. I've never seen The Hills. Not sure it's fair to compare the ratings, as the demographics are quite different. Deadliest Catch is the only show on TV I watch regularly, I never miss it. RIP Capt. Phil. My son and I cried when you passed in February, and we cried again two nights ago. You are sorely missed.

On a slight tangent, loved Johnny Cash's rendition of Redemption Day in the final minutes of the episode. I've also been loving After The Catch, especially hearing stories about Phil this week. Loved seeing him work on those birdfeeders back at home-who knew?

Re: Nathan Explosion! – People had more of a chance to get to 'know' Phil over the others as he was a Captain and had more face time as well as this past season focusing more on him since his death. People die on this show almost seasonly and I agree, they too should be thought of and not put to the back burner b/c Phil died. RIP all crab fishermen. It takes a special person to do that job.
Wow. I was actually watching deadliest catch. I watched the 2nd showing of the Hills at midnight. LC leaving the Hills was no good, but once Spencer and his crystals left- there was just no point! I get enough Jenner on the Kardashians, thank you.

Is anyone understanding the fact that these two shows are geared toward 2 totally different demographics, appearing on 2 totally different channels ( content-wise: MTV geared for music and entertainment. Discovery is geared for more educational programing and shows that require talent and skill to be on) and therefore comparing their numbers is useless and have no purpose?
Not to mention, a larger demographic of grown men and woman (like in the 30-60 age range) are more likely to be watching DC as opposed to the Hills. Hence, DC's number's were/are higher.
I guess people, myself included wanted to watch something real and very gripping! I don't normally watch this show but I was totally glued to the whole drama. There really hasn't been a more honest program then this!
Watched the Deadliest Catch (cried from beginning to end) and watched After the Catch. I'm in love with Josh Harris. Still haven't seen the Hills finale. Figured same ole, same ole.
